“Good Value for Single Rooms”
Reviewed 2 December 2012

I stayed for 3 nights in a single room at Century Park. The hotel was several blocks north of the Urgell metro station and the aerobus drop off and pick up points. The room was of average size and was in a relatively quiet neighborhood. I had a large flat screen TV with English channels of CNBC, BBC, and Bloomberg. The staff were helpful and spoke excellent English. The breakfast was not included in the rate, but was a good value at 6 Euro. I was able to walk to all of the major sights although some were not real close. There were a number of good restaurants and tapas bars within a 15 minute walk. I was pleased with the hotel and room for the price.

Everything was great. Good location, friendly staff, clean rooms. It's only a 15 minute walk to Catalunya Square, where you can take the city tour bus to visit the entire city. But you will probably decide to take long walks because there are a lot of things you want to see upclose! I will chose the same hotel next time I'm in Barcelona.

The Hotel was okay, but the beds were very hard and small. Could not get a good night's sleep due to the hardness. Even after layering the bed with blankets,it was still too hard to sleep.

It had an adequate complimentary breakfast. The free internet was great, but very slow come evenings.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room with a full bathtub.

We stayed at this hotel for one week. We had a room at first floor and it was oriented towards the street, which made it very noisy; this was disturbing during the night as we would have preferred to leave the windows open.
The other downside was the breakfast. We had the absolute same things for 7 mornings and they only had a few this out of which to pick something to eat.
Apart from that, the room was very clean, which I really appreciated and the location is good, very close to Paseig de Gracia.

Century Park is not a large hotel, 7 floors with around 7 rooms per floor. We stayed on the top floor in room 706.

The hotel is very clean and tidy, as with many of the hotels in Barcelona, its crammed into a small area, but in a very stylish way. The reception is smart, staff are friendly and helpful. They allowed us into the room before the official time (we had an early morning flight), and there's a baggage storage facility if you have a late flight. Staff are polite and fluent in numerous languages (including English).

Rooms are clean and tidy, and our specific requests were all provided. The size of the rooms are not massive, compact is more accurate, but they are pretty well appointed, with HD TV, mini bar (that was cleared out to allow for our own drinks!), desk and lamp, two bedside tables, hairdryer etc, but no tea/coffee facilities, no ironing/trouser press. The main thing is that they are clean, very clean in fact, and perfectly acceptable. Soap, shampoo, shower gel were all provided and replenished daily. There is a lift to all floors. There is some road noise as you would expect from city center location, but this was acceptable, possibly due to being on a higher floor?

Breakfast is continental, note that there is no hot food available (unless you include toast). Breakfast was included in the price, and is situated just off reception in a smart eating area. Again it's very clean and tidy and staff are keen to please, replenishing stock on request. It consists of tea/coffee with hot/cold milk, bread/toast (and toaster), bread rolls, a selection of cold meats (ham, chorizo, cured uncooked bacon) and sliced cheese. There are a selection of small cakes/pastries, and yoghurts/jam etc.

Location is great. It is walking distance from most of the main sites, but a long walk to La Sagrida Familia (take comfy walking shoes!!!) and with a good guide book or two, the sites can be negotiated. The hotel is located approximately 5 blocks up from Urgell metro station (pronounced Oo-Jell). It's around 20-30mins walk to the top of La Rambla, but should you get a metro ticket (it's 2euro for a journey per person, or 7euro for an unlimited day pass per person), then it's easy to get around really quickly.

I found eating out a little disappointing, with restaurants close to the tourist areas trying their best to rip you off, this is especially the case around La Rambla. Example being "10euro for 2 tapas, and paella"... sounds like a good deal... but then you realise that a glass of wine is 10euro, or 20euro for half a bottle!! Just be aware, make sure that you see the price list for both the food and the drink prior to ordering... or else you may get a shock.

Getting to/from the airport. We found it best to use the Aerobus. Catch it from Barcelona airport, it's around 4euro per person each way and will take you from the airport to Urgell metro station on Gran Via. It will go back via Sepulvida which is the next block down. Very handy... but make sure that you press the "stop" button as soon as you go past the Placa Espana (it's the massive roundabout... can't miss it). If you don't... the bus won't stop and won't let you know you're approaching your stop! Otherwise... next stop center Barcelona at Placa Catalunya!

In summary, a great little hotel, a good deal, fairly central location, basic breakfast provided and with good links around the city and to/from the airport.

Room Tip: Ask for a larger room, upper floor to get away from the traffic noise and make sure you request a do...

It is awesome! Staff, cleaning, localization, everything awesome!
Several shops, markets and bakeries near the hotel. You could do almost everything walking. A few minutes from the metro station to get to the beach! the hotel is awesome and Barcelona is awesome!

Our 3 night nightmare in Barcelona was tempered only by our accomodation. The staff and facilities at Century Park Hotel were excellent. Andrea and Maite went out of their way to assist us in trying to secure tempory travel documents etc. The location of the hotel was excellent for site-seeing, for those of you fortunate enough not to have been mugged of your wallet and travel documents. I was excited about our stay in Barcelona and all the wonders this city. However 5 mins after stopping at Placa Catalunya I had my wallet and travel documents lifted from my bag while we struggled to offload our luggage from the bus with the bus driver and his supervisor shouting at us to remove same.
I firmly believe that our ordeal was orchestrated from when we stepped on the A1 Aeroport Bus at Barcelona Airport. We are fairly certain that the bus drivers may even be involved in the syndicates that operate at the major tourist stops like Placa Catalunya.
The police officials were no where to be seen despite this being a serious problem in the city and at the police station there were no less than 15 other cases reported in the hour and half that I waited to have my matter attended to. In short I would not recommend a visit to Barcelona, however if you find yourself in the unfortunate position of having to spend time in this city then Century Park Hotel is the best choice. You will not find better value for money and friendlier staff.

Room Tip: Rooms off the street are quiter.
