Stayed here with my husband - superlative rooms, expect ally with the private terrace. Our terrace was huge and well appointed with a beautiful view. The terraces are very private and equipped with comfortable couches and a table for breakfast (we got yogurt and fruit from a nearby shop and ordered a up a cafe con leche). Te rooms are spacious and have massive and beautiful bathrooms. The room is very well laid out with lots of storage.
The front desk staff are friendly and helpful but there is no real concierge service so we were pretty much on our own. The hotel bar is deserted and the area around the hotel is dominated by students. That being said, it is a 2 minute walk to the Metro and from there all of Barcelona is at your feet.
I used the hotel gym which had a single treadmill a few free weights and two bikes but I never had to wait. The public terrace just off the gym looked great for sunbathers who didn't want to trek down to barceloneta. A caveat... The room service meal we had was terrible - salty inedible pizza. There are better restaurants a few minutes from the hotel.

Basically great room, fabulous terrace, decent location but that is about it for this hotel.

Room Tip: Private terrace is worth the upgrade - upper floors are quieter and have a better view.

We spent 3 nights over a long weekend at the end of May and loved it. Barcelona is a lovely city with great people and the U232 Hotel is a super little hotel. Reception were friendly and efficient, also recommending a couple of fabulous restaurants near by. We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel (12 € if booked at the hotel) as there are many pavement cafes with a wide range of foods close by (cheaper and it's more fun). The room was fairly big for city centre, big Tv if your want it, my only moan is that the shower was not brilliant.
Be careful if you have room 611 as one night the resident of the adjoining apartment complex had a loud uparty.
The position is good, close to metro and out of the hustle of the centre, prices for eating out are much reduced.
Please note that with the metro a 1 day ticket is only for THAT day not 24 hours from purchase, so make sure you buy it early!!

We stayed at U232 for two nights. The room was modern, clean, and comfortable. The only thing lacking was that our triple room had no window/balcony. All triples are inside rooms. We knew this when we booked so it is not a negative, but something to keep in mind if you are a triple or quad. It was very quiet, though, for those who need that.
We opted for their breakfast which is a bit pricey but it was very good.
The staff was businesslike but excellent. As we prepared to leave, I left some bags alongside the front desk to go look for my wife in the computer room. When I returned, my bags were gone and after a brief moment of panic, the desk clerk asked me if I was missing a bag. He had seen it, and stored in behind the desk. He then warned me that a bag can disappear that fast when unattended and next time it could be a different result. I appreciated the concern and the lesson learned. They held our bags secure the rest of the morning while we went
out and about.
In the end, we really wished we had stayed longer, both in Barcelona and at the U232. For the price, you are not likely to find a nicer hotel though some might prefer a hotel more central to the tourist sites. However, as pointed out by others, the metro is nearby as well as taxis, so not a big deal.

I've lived in Barcelona about a decade ago, and since then I regularly return with my wife for a short city trip. We always try to stay at the U232. Not only are the room rates excellent for such luxurious, spacious & well equipped rooms, the location of the hotel is quite a plus to us.
Yes, the hotel is somewhat removed from the Ramblas and the coast, but it is located in the Eixample neighborhood and in my book that's an excellent neighborhood to make your trip to Barcelona a bit relaxing. With its wide lanes and residential character, the Eixample is a lot less hectic than the tourist hotspots - while you can still be at those spots in minutes. U232 is located very close to the underground and taxis in Barcelona are quite cheap - but in many cases I prefer to walk from the hotel and grab a coffee, croissant, beer or plate of tapas somewhere along the way.
On a lot of my trips I prefer to have a centrally located hotel (even at higher rates or with less luxury) to avoid transfer times. In Barcelona, I do it the other way round: enjoy the comfort of this somewhat out-of-centre hotel because it's so well connected and offers great rooms at very competitive rates.

Room Tip: Even the standard rooms are very good, but as the upgrades are so cheap it pays to go for a higher-s...

We stayed here for 4 nights in April 2012. A great location in a quiet area of Barcelona, but still very convenient for the Hospital Clinic tube - just a few minutes walk away. Buy T10 tickets - they're a bargain and great to use to get around Barcelona easily. The hotel is very chic, clean, welcoming and has a wonderful bar area. We had a U232 room which was really smart and the bathroom was a real treat! Couldn't fault the hotel really, except that the service at the bar could be rather slow, but the reception staff were very helpful at all times. Like others, we'd recommend eating in some of the local cafes - cheap, friendly and they give you an experience of "real" Barcelona, away from the tourists.

Room Tip: Pay a little more for the U232 room.

We spent a 6 night stay here in May 2012. Situated in the Eixample district, it is a few minutes walk from the Metro (Hospital Clinic) Station, and so allows easy access to anywhere in Barcelona courtesy of the excellent undergraound train system, (which is also cheap, - get a T10 ticket = 10 journeys, E9.25) Also easy therefore to get to from the airport.

The hotel is modern and clean, but very dark everywhere, (particulalrly in our room), due to the predominantly black decor, and inadequate lighting. The breakfast is fine, except that they only provide UHT/Longlife milk which taints the cereal and the beverages with a nasty taste.

Reception staff were helpful and I would recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to spend a few days in this lovely city.

NOTE - Trying to find an affordable good meal nearby was difficult , there are plenty of snack bars but the local restaurants are very expensive, non English speaking, and disappointing. Don't expect any vegetables, - maybe that's just the Spanish way?

We had 3 nights at this lovely boutique style hotel in mid-May 2012 when visiting Barcelona to see Bruce Springsteen at the Olympic Stadium . The hotel is situated in a residential area opposite the local college on a relatively busy road . There are plenty of local cafes and bars offering good value (certainly cheaper than around the Ramblas) . The hotel staff were very friendly and ready to offer assistance . The room we had (201) had a balcony overlooking the road and was a little noisy due to the traffic and the propensity of the locals to sound their horn at every available opportunity ! The room was very nice with large comfortable beds and good facilities . There is a large plasma TV with numerous channels covering a multitude of languages . The metro station is within 50 yards of the hotel and you can get around the City very easily . Buy a T-10 ticket for 9.25 euros from the machines (instructions in english if you press the little union jack flag) for 10 journeys anywhere in central Barcelona . We didnt use the breakfast option so cannot comment on its value (12 euros per person) though we had a croissant , fresh orange juice and a coffee for about 5 euros in the local cafe . The bar is quite nice and for a hotel not too over-priced though there is a very nice bar on the same block as the hotel which is cheaper (and has nice Tapas) . The hotel is recommended but watch out around the Ramblas . A friend we had met earlier was surrounded on the Ramblas and had his i Phone stolen though thankfully they did not get his wallet .
