This is by no means a luxury hotel, but it was very comfortable, great location, and very nice and helpful staff. The noise was not a problem, once you closed the balcony doors. Many good eateries and tapas bars close by. Close to the metro and free wifi much appreciated. Be prepared to carry your luggage up a set of stairs to the lobby, but not a problem. We arrived around midnight the first night and the area was quiet and deserted. A/C worked well and as mentioned by another reviewed, good water pressure in the shower.

El Jardi is in a superb location overlooking square in Barri Gotic. Very hard to find so be warned when arriving in taxi. Chances are the taxi driver will struggle to locate it. Tell the driver to go to the adjacent Plaza del Pi. Room was surprisingly comfortable with air con and a good bathroom although the shower was very hard to regulate. Little balcony where one person could just sit. Bed comfortable although very low to the ground. Reception manned 24 hours. Breakfast is available but you can get better value in the square below. All in all good value for overpriced overrated Barcelona.

If noise bothers you, then pick another place because people stay up way past midnight and their voices are loud in the stone courtyard where there is a bar. The advantage to staying at El Jardi is that you can walk from the bus stop at Placa de Catalunya, the Barri Gotic location has lots of shopping, sights, and restaurants to offer, the guy at the desk spoke very good English, the price is affordable, my room sleeps four (a double and two singles), and there is a printer available and used books to read which have been left by other travelers. The disadvantages are that there are lots of stairs (luckily I'm used to traveling in Europe), the bathroom is teeny tiny, and the noise is as I've mentioned before, is unbearable if you're a light sleeper. I'd consider staying here again, but I'd book a quieter room.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not affected by the courtyard noise.

My daughter and I stayed for 2 nights in a good sized room, with a balcony. The bathroom was good, with great water pressure. Beds comfortable. Best thing was having the balcony doors open and listening to the music from the square below. Good restaurants in the square, and a great cafe that sold so many different kinds of tea and pastries.

Room Tip: ask for a balcony overlooking the square below.

A great little budget hotel in a great location. Rooms small but clean, bathroom well appointed, bed a little firm (but after exploring Barcelona, exhaustion allows you to sleep on anything), staff friendly and helpful.
It is right in the heart of the old city overlooking a cute Plaza - a great place to stay at a good price!!

Room Tip: Ask for a veranda room, great for watching the world go by in the plaza

Recently revisited Barcelona after many years and my wife tracked down this little gem of a hotel using guess what ?????????? Tripadvisor !! Yay !!
Some reviews can be a little off putting so I think people should read up a bit and realise what they are getting here .
This is a great little hotel located on a quaint little square off La Ramblas and very centrally sited for walking all around Barcelona centre.
Prices aren't bad and the place is very clean and tidy and all the fittings are modern and more importantly they work . The staff are all very friendly and they all speak English .
You can get breakfast which is a fairly basic continental item with croissants , coffee , juices , cereals etc .
Its in a pedestrianized area so the cabs can't drop you right outside but to be honest we got a cab to drop us at Liecu Train station on La Ramblas and we walked here in less than a minute . There are some stairs to get to the reception but only about 20 so you aren't scaling a mountain !! A lift takes you to all the other floors but you can only really get two people and bags in the lift .
We had a room on the 8th floor with a nice terrace which gave us a good view and you could also see the gothic church as well as over look the action in the square below .
The room is compact but very clean and tidy with a nice shower etc . To be honest we only use hotel rooms as a base to get changed sleep and leave luggage so it doesn't bother me . The rooms are cleaned daily and fresh towels bed linen etc given .
Reading some of the other comments here I wondered if I was actually at the same hotel as I thought it was a great little place but if you are after a bathroom the size of Texas and steaks for breakfast you will be disappointed !!
Personally hats off to The Hotel and its staff and long may it prosper ! I would definitely use it again .

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floors are quieter with terraces and have better views !

We had room 23. A nice balcony- too small for chairs- with our 2 kids(4&7) the couch made a nice bed for the girls. We had a full bed. Hard, but ok. Yes the rooms are small but we did not mind. We stayed Sunday and Monday nights and I was so worried about the noise I bought earplugs but really the windows block a lot and we never used them. We parked our car in their suggested lot paid 10e/day and then drove it to the airport. That worked out nice- cheaper than a cab and the rental car return is in the airport. The biggest complaint was how hard the bed was, but that's it. Oh yeah and I did learn a life lesson: when someone takes your passport to photocopy it, when they hand it back just open it and make sure it's yours. I was handed the wrong one and would never have thought to look if my daughter hadn't wanted to see my picture. Imagine if she didn't!!
