“A lovely luxurious hotel with quirky rooftop rooms!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 April 2013 via mobile

We stayed here for a romantic week in Barcelona and loved it. We were given a rooftop room which was like an amazing hidden gem on the rooftop terrace with sofas and giant cacti. The room was brilliant, with wooden beams, airy with extremely comfortable beds, free minibar and spotlessly clean. The staff were all amazing...extremely friendly, happy and helpful. Breakfast was superb especially the fresh fruit, chocolate croissants and brownies!! There is a cool honesty bar downstairs and great chill out rooms.

We have just returned from spending 4 nights at this hotel. We booked through booking.com. On checking in, we were told we were being upgraded to a superior room on the 4th floor - it was the most enormous hotel room I have ever stayed in. Huge comfy sofa, massive bed (seemed like a double king!), lobby with wardrobe and kitchen area, gorgeous bathroom room with fabulous toiletries and a good powerful hairdryer. The staff were extremely helpful and were always smiling. The breakfast was lovely - fruit, yoghurt, ham, cheese, pastries etc.etc. Fresh coffee machines in the bar area and in the guests lounge. The sitting room is very peaceful and we could have happily spent a whole day in there alone - reading - bliss. There is a Mac for the guests to use and complimentary snacks available all day and night. the honesty bar is great too but there was no wine, only spirits and liquers, and soft drinks.
The location (Sarria is the nearest metro) is perfect. A very quiet residential area so no traffic noise and we felt very safe wandering around at night. There is a great tapas bar called Bar Bero nearby - sadly we only found it on our last night but would have gone there EVERY night if we had known about it. Full of locals and great simple food. Would definitely recommend getting the touristic bus (get on and get off) for a day or two as you really get a feel for the city and where everything is in relation to each other. Otherwise the metro is very easy and very quick. Much smaller than the London underground!! My only criticism is why have they used such cheap doors on the rooms and wardrobes. The rest of the hotel is lovely so why they have scrimped on this detail is beyond me. Anyway, we would definitely go back.

The rooms clearly vary greatly as the room I had was on the top floor (the roof) and was nothing like the images on trip advisor!!. My room was dark and dingy and had a sloping roof, I was unable to leave the curtains open as the windows looked out onto an internal rootop courtyard where people had to walk by my window to get their room, no privacy, no natural light.
Rooms on the lower floors look more 'normal'..

This is a real boutique style hotel, but to be honest as a business traveller it was rather unsuitable as the room had a very small desk, one power point, and a VERY hard wooden chair. Lighting in the room was terrible.
Breakfast was served in a separate room that felt like a small coffee bar rather than a restaurant area.
Nice for a romantic break maybe but on business I need lighting, comfort, and public areas that are suitable to relax or work in.
Staff were all excellent, great service.

Room Tip: if you don't like your room on check in ask for another one, they probably vary in style.

We have just returned from a stay at this hotel and this is my first ever review on trip advisor but felt passionately enough to express how good it is! Great rooms, great atmosphere, great location (we walked everywhere, parc guell, the centre, the port, sagreda familia). We found ourselves trying the local restaurants in the evening as after a busy day and lunch in the centre it was nice to relax locally. I almost deleted this review as I don't want to expose this hotel for everyone else to visit but it really is a gem! Staff were also very helpful and the breakfast was lovely. We will definitely be back if we return to Barcelona!

When my 3 days of work in Spain had ended i decided to extend a bit my stay and stay in Hotel Primero Primera for 2 more days. My choice i think couldn't be better. Amazing luxury room with really nice price. I loved the living room in the room.... it gave me a lot of ideas of how to make my new home... ;)

We stayed at Primero Primera for three nights celebrating our anniversary. We mentioned this during our booking. On arrival the hotel looked beautiful, hidden away in a quiet residential area not far from Avenue Diagonal. When we walked in, it really did surpass our expectations. The hotel is very atmospheric, with subdued lighting, a beautiful spiral staircase from top to bottom and a fabulous Den with honesty bar. The staff were extremely attentive and advised us our room was not yet ready which we expected given our early 10am arrival. We took a cab into Barcelona (which cost around nine euros) and came back to the hotel late afternoon.

When we arrive back, we were told our room had been upgraded and were absolutely delighted when we were shown to what must have been the best room in the hotel. It was an absolute delight with a large super king sized bed, sofa, dressing table and beautiful luxurious bathroom. The staff had also sent up a platter of chocolate brownies with a congratulatory note which we felt given the room upgrade was over and above what we could have expected.

Breakfast was simple and divine. The lady who help with breakfast in the morning (regrettably we do not know her name, what we do know is she learned English in Liverpool UK) was wonderful and made us feel like we were quite at home. Nothing was too much trouble for her and she really did make our experience more enjoyable.

We had room service dinner on two occasions both costing around forty euros for a simple dinner with wine. On both occasions the food was delicious and the wine much cheaper than in the UK. We felt the prices reflected the quality of the locally sourced produce and was good value.

The hotel is some way out of town but having visited Barcelona before, we did not want the hustle and bustle of Las Ramblas et al. We walked to and from the hotel three times which in the sun was fine. It took about 45 minutes. There are restaurants near by but we preferred the food in the hotel. There are also some lovely shops - this is clearly an affluent part of town based on the quality of the shops we saw in the vicinity.

On our last night, we were luck enough to go back to the room and have a bottle of champagne in our room. We didn't think there was anything else the hotel could do to make our trip any better so this really was the icing on the cake and very much appreciated.

All in all, the staff were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. The communal areas were immaculate. The ambience of the hotel far exceeded our expectations. Is there anything I would change? The only thing that could have improved out experience (and I'm being picky here) is if we had dressing gowns in the room. To be honest, it was idyllic and we'd return tomorrow.

If you do one thing - book this hotel I defy anyone who isn't content with their choice.

Room Tip: We had a room with a balcony which was great to enjoy those sunny Barcelona afternoons.

We stayed in Primero Primera and we loved it. If you don't need to have a walking distance to Barcelona Centre, and you're fine in picking a taxi / Subway, then Primero Primera is an excelent choice. Fine taste on deco, big space rooms, with style / design bathrooms, quiet to sleep, with a relaxing living room (almost has a Guesthouse), with a very personalized care of the hotel staff with your stay. The hotel is located in an excelent neighboor, a quiet and beautiful residential place, with beautiful balconies, with local trendy restaurants. For this price and with this quality, I was very happy with our choice.
