“Very good for the price”
Reviewed 6 July 2014

Booked 2 days before arriving (in high season: early July) because it was pretty much the cheapest accommodation we could find in Barcelona that was not a hostel dorm. For the price we were not disappointed. We got a basic but clean room with two beds and a private bathroom. The WiFi worked well. There was cleaning service every day (which I did not expect in something calling itself a 'hostel'). Good location, right across the street from the train station (there's no direct trains to the airport from that station but it's an easy transfer staying on the same platform at Paseig de Gracia station); when we were leaving it literally took us less than 3 minutes from our room onto the train. A 10 minute walk from La Rambla, 15 minute walk from the beach and a metro station nearby. The district behind the hotel is very lively, full of restaurants. Would definitely recommend.

The Hostal is very well located and extremely clean. It's been recently renewed.
The attention is provided by it's own owners, Josefina, her husband and her son Andres, also Ramon, Triny, everybody else.
We'll be back.

Directly across from the train station which is very handy when arriving from the airport. Walking distance to la rambla and the gothic quarter. We even walked to la sagrada familia from here.
Room was comfortable, however painfully slow internet.
Good bathroom and bed, very friendly staff even though they had limited English and we had almost no Spanish. Big thanks to Ramon, always smiling and having a joke. Made us feel very welcome as soon as we stepped in the doors.

This place more than met our needs (sleep, shower) and was in a great location. The room was simple, clean, and comfortable. Bathroom was very nice. The staff was pretty nice and helpful though the language barrier was definitely present. Our room faced the inner courtyard so the nights were quiet. Staff is there 24 hours/day to buzz you in the front door. As others have noted, there are quite a few stairs to climb to the hostal with no lift. You leave your key in a key cabinet when you leave with the other rooms' keys, but we didn't have any issues (there is also a small lock box in the room to secure valuables). We would definitely stay here again if we return to Barcelona, it was a good value.

The hostal located 10 min walk from Plaza Colon (edge of Rambla).
Rooms are clean with all necessary amenities.
There is wifi but not always reach the room.
Breakfast places can be found easily nearby.
The big disadvantage is the need to carry your luggage over 60 stairs to your room.

January 2014, we reserved a triple room for 4 nights in April with a private bathroom. When we arrived a few days ago they had "lost our reservation." The evening before we arrived my friend sent a confirmation email to them and we didn't receive a response. When we arrived, we were told they were waiting to tell us they didn't have our reservation until we got to the hotel. This was after we paid for a 40 euro cab ride to get there from the airport. The woman managing the reservations didn't even show up in person to tell us. She told us this on the phone. The whole situation didn't seem to be a high priority to her.

The only option they had for us was a shared 8 person dorm room in the city center for one night (they had no idea about where we would stay the other nights) or an apartment by Park Guell (again, they didn't know where we would stay the other nights). We are three women in our 30s and well past the age of sharing a dorm room and as we had limited time in Barcelona, staying by Park Guell seemed ridiculous as it is on the edge of the city and not serviced well by the metro. We proceeded to have to find our own accommodations, we could use their computer but had to pay 1 Euro for each 1/2 hour we used it!!! They couldn't even give us the courtesy to use their internet to find ourselves lodging after they screwed us over. There was also no offer to compensate us for the cab ride or provide us transportation to the new hotel we found on our own.

Also, while we were there, we saw a room that was open and ready for someone and it looked very dated and dingy. The cleanliness of the whole place also seemed questionable.

Good location, fair price. We were there during a formula 1 weekend and the prices were a little bit over the normal season price. The room was very clean and comfortable. The lonely complain I have is the lac of sound isolation. You can here all the "noises" from the other rooms.
