Excellent Location. Nice initial impression; the small lobby is quaint. Our room was exceptionally small. Linens were clean but the room was not as clean as the other places we stayed. There was no breakfast included, as advertised, and no price adjustment. It was also the most expensive place we stayed, but perhaps it is just a more expensive city.

First of all, thank you very much for your opinion, it is always helpful.

At this moment we are in the middle of renovations. Will have bigger rooms and bigger bathrooms, restaurant, lounge with a fireplace, inside vertical garden ...

We are going to get a leed certification(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)which is a rating system and environmental sustainability for buildings developed by the U.S. Green Building Council.

Hosteria Grau is closed at this moment , as you know, and it will remind like this until March 10th 2013, it is when it will be the time to begin a new stage. We will not be an standard hotel that you can find in every corner, we won´t be a “fashion” hotel that you can see in every city in the world, we will be that “special hotel” that keeps its personal cozy style and makes it unique. Always feeling like home....

We hope we can see you back in a future. Best luck for 2013

Great location and as other reviews we chose this hotel for a 3 night stay in Barcelona for location & price. Staff was extremely nice, room was clean, good wifi but very hard bed and pillow. Good vegetarian restaurant in the alley, Starbucks, and close to tourist Hop on/Hop off bus pick up near the Starbucks and close to Las Ramblas. Would recommend for a few nights stay in Barcelona.

Room Tip: We had our own bath and very sufficient.

Barcelona is such an expensive city that it's really difficult to find reasonably priced hotels/inns at the center. Hosteria Grau provides an excellent value for money accommodations. You have to set the right expectations for yourself. If you are used to 4-5 star facilities, then this is not the place to be. If you are just looking for a very clean, shabby chic place to crash after 16 hour days of shopping and sightseeing, then Grau is the perfect place to stay! Rooms are quite small so better get a triple sharing room or the apartment at the top floor if you need more space. The room's balcony doors are soundproofed enough to let us sleep through the wee hours of the morning of seemingly continuous partying at the street below. Though technically at the Raval area, the street is very safe and just several meters away from La Rambla. There's always somebody at the reception and all of them are very very very accommodating. There's a new lift and if you get hunger pangs at odd hours, there's a vending machine of drinks and snacks with ice cream beside the elevator. If you are coming to and from the airport, just take the Aeroport bus that parks at Plaça de Catalunya and you can just walk to and from Hosteria Grau from there.

It's a real struggle to find a comfortable, affordable place to stay in Barcelona. Hosteria Grau fit the bill, with a spacious, comfortable room with properly sound-proofed windows to ensure a good night's sleep. Our only complaint would be that the mattress and pillow quality should be improved to bring the room up to consistent standard - and charging us extra for the use of a room safe seemed rather mean. The communal area with internet, TV and sofa was very welcome and the hotel boasts a fantastic location just off the Ramblas within walking distance of everything. The lack of breakfast is no problem, as there is a plethora of options on your doorstep. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable and all-in-all, this was a good value option in a very pricey hotel market. Recommended.

This hosteria has an excellent location, but our apartment was disappointing. The mattresses were very thin and we each had one flat pillow for the night. It was clean and the living area was fine. But the location makes up for this - we could walk to Las Ramblas (5 minutes) and all the way down to the sea, the Gothic Quarter was just around the corner. Great tapas bars close by as well.

Room Tip: Don't expect the rooms to look the same as on the website.

Some friends and I stayed here in September 2011. The hotel and the adjoining cafe/bar have a some great history. The modern updates give them a very nice, old-world charm. The service was very accommodating and helpful. The building is in a fantastic location, just off La Rambla, but still felt very secure. Decent prices for the area too.

Room Tip: Some rooms share a hallway washroom. If you need or would like a private washroom, just make sure of...
