Owner description: The Tablao de Carmen pays tribute to the great flamenco dancer, Carmen Amaya, born in 1913 in the gypsy quarter of Somorrostro which then existed in what is today Barcelona's Olympic Village. Carmen Amaya made her debut in 1929 before King Alfonso XII on the site which is today the Tablao de Carmen at the inauguration of Poble Espanyol de Montjuic. The Tablao offers a top quality pure flamenco show, a direct descendant of the tradition. It dynamically presents several of the most important palos or styles of flamenco so that the spectator can get to know the richness and variety of this art form. It also highlights its different forms of expression: instrumental, vocal and dance.

This was a truly wonderful evening! The performers portray so much passion and emotion and as the audience you are so captured. We selected to have tapas with the show, which was satisfying. I've seen a few complaints on here about the tapas but honestly, for 10 euro extra you get an abundance of drinks offered throughout the performance as well as a satisfying selection of tapas. It is perfect to have some food before and during the show. We also loved the small, romantic setting of the theatre. Wherever you are seated you have a very close view of the stage. We also walked around Pablo Espanyol before the show, which I would highly recommend. It has loads of little shops and cafes where one can enjoy a drink before the show or just stroll around the different shops. You get free entrance into Pablo Espanyol with your show ticket. We went to the earlier show, which wasn't dark yet but we still got the romantic effect of the lanterns all over the theatre. Upon leaving Pablo Espanyol, we were happily surprised as we didn't realise the Magic Fountain show was on at 9pm!! A perfect way to top of an already perfect evening!

My partner and I went to watch the flamenco show at El Tablao de Carmen and had the tapas menu. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and the tapas (which was very filling) and would definitely recommend this to anyone travelling to Barcelona.

We visited Barcelona in April 2014 and wanted to experience a show that gave us a cultural flavor. After looking at a few other Flamenco options, we settled for El Tablao de Carmen and it did not disappoint one bit. The staff was very courteous and welcoming. We had ordered vegetarian tapas and the food was good although there was a bit too much cheese. The place is not very big so don't worry about not getting a good seat although if you are closer it would be better. The venue is located inside Poble Espanyol, the entrance fee of which is included in your ticket. If you are in Barcelona for a few days only, this is how you should plan it: There are 2 show daily at 7 and 9:30 pm with dinner starting 45 mins before. Arrive in the morning or early afternoon and spend some time at the MNAC museum. You can also cover the other attractions at Mont Juic. Once you are done, make your way to Poble Espanyol around 5:15 which is a 10 min walk away from MNAC. You can spend some time roaming around the shops in Poble Espanyol. Ask the staff at the entrance or one of the shops about the Carmen's entrance in case you don't have a map. The dance is of the highest quality, do go through the information brochure that would be on your table as it tells you a bit about the type of dance and the performers. For those who don't know, Carmen was one of the most legendary flamenco dancers ever and her spirit can been see in the performers as well. The performers keep changing and there are breaks between dances as well with singing performances. Once done, you can head over to the incredible magic fountain in front of the MNAC museum (double check times online).

Have fun!

Enjoyed wandering around before the show.
Interesting architecture and a few artisanal stores.
Surprised by the quality of the food especially the steak.
Waiters were pleasant and efficient.
Greatly enjoyed the flamenco dancing and music.
The dancers really put a lot into it and gave a good show.
I jumped in a taxi to return to the hotel but that was a mistake, should have walked 5 min down the road to see the fountains at Montjuic.
