Description: At La Forquilla Restaurant we look for a different view on the concept of a restaurant. Services with few diners but attended by the same Chef who creates the dishes, Vidal Gravalosa. This approach seeks the highest quality both inside and outside the kitchen. Nobody better than the same Chef to convey the sense of each ingredient of each dish during the experience.

yes it is only one man who is handling all and that is unbelievable what the owner manages and serves you - that is close to magic but its high end and every single Euro more than worth it! It is five star food for which you pay in Paris, Tokyo or London three times the price to get same level and quality of food! I eat in Michelin rated restaurants in London, Cologne, Black Forrest, Hong Kong and Paris and yes in these restaurants you had maybe a nicer environment but the food was definitely not better and some even not close to that what we eat Yesterday in La Forquilla!!!!! So for sure we will come back again!!!!!!

Words fail me when trying to express how great the food and service were. Only 11 diners and it seemed like the evening went in a flash. The flavors are amazing and the dishes are so balanced and presented artfully. This young man has talent galore and is passionate about the Catalan products and has immense pride in ensuring his guests have a memorable experience. I can only recommend that you go and taste the food yourself as the chef is a hidden gem and is destined to become one of the top Chefs in the country if indeed he is not already. Reserve early as he is a one man show and it is well worth the trip (he is located outside the main tourist area).

The food is excellent, but we came awfully close to not ever having tasted it. Read on so that you don’t make that mistake, because believe me, if you can get a reservation – you very much want to eat here.

After reading many a great review on line, we decided to put La Forquilla on our list of restaurants to try while in Barcelona. We had to work a bit to get a reservation, but whoever answered the phone was always helpful, friendly, and willing to work with us. We finally were able to get a a reservation for lunch.

Our taxi took us from a very nice part of Barcelona to a not so nice part of Barcelona – a bit down scale and without a lot of people on the street. That, in and of itself, was a little unsettling. We were further unsettled because when we pulled up to the restaurant, it looked like little more than a lower-end neighborhood restaurant – one or two steps above a hole in the wall. Most unsettling was the fact that there were only two other people in the restaurant. Two. We were befuddled. Why was it so difficult to get a reservation when, of the eight tables in the restaurant, only one was occupied? And that table with only two people. We very nearly left, but decided to stay. Great decision.

The place has an odd feel to it – one part coffee shop and one part haute cuisine. The waiter was quite helpful in going through the menu with us. While we waited for our food, someone came in from a nearby hotel and asked if they could have lunch. The waiter politely told him no – that they were full. But there were six empty tables and only five people in the restaurant. How could it be full? It’s actually very simple. The waiter, Vidal, is also the chef, the cook, the waiter, the phone answerer, the cashier, and the host. Other than one other person who seems to clean dishes and perhaps plate the food, he is literally a one-man show. He doesn’t calculate available reservations by the number of tables he has open; he calculates reservations by how many people he thinks he can handle at a particular time. It makes for a wonderfully off beat and charming kind of experience. (By the way, despite the lack of staff, everything runs quite smoothly.) But let us not forget the food.

Vidal cooks in the style of the “new” nouvelle cuisine and he is an absolute artist. No need for me to go down the menu – you can read it yourself. Just trust that everything he puts on the table is well thought out, wonderfully prepared, beautifully served, and absolutely delicious.

Highly recommended. Reserve now.

As others have already stated, Vidal is a one man show...owner, chef, waiter, sommelier and bus boy. Six of us had the 10 course Tasting menu which was extraordinary. Each dish was delicious and meticulously prepared, presented on plates that reflected Vidal's creativity and attention to detail. One person in our group had a food allergy but that was no problem for Vidal. He was able to accommodate her while maintaining his high culinary standards. Although the small restaurant can hold around 25 people, Vidal only accepts reservations for 12-14 so he can concentrate on preparing and serving a first class experience. Although the restaurant is on the outskirts of Madrid, do not hesitate to make the trip...its well worth it!

I should probably start this review by saying it is going to be very similar to all of the other reviews of this restaurant, because it was absolutely fantastic.

This was my first visit to Barcelona, as my wife and I had decided to treat ourselves for our 25th wedding anniversary. The trip had been a long time in the planning, and for our actual anniversary, I wanted to book an extra special meal. When I started researching restaurants, La Forquilla was in the top 5 on TA, so as the trip got closer, I began to worry as it started to slip down the rankings, although the reviews were still all very positive.

However, I needn't have worried! Having booked online, and mentioned that it was an anniversary dinner, Vidal quickly confirmed the booking, and checked if I would have access to e-mail whilst in Barcelona, in the event of something unforeseen cropping up.

On arrival, we were given the choice of 3 menus - the A La Carte, the Sensations menu of 5 dishes, costing 27 Euros, or the Tasting menu, 7 courses costing 45 Euros. We opted for the Tasting menu and we weren't disappointed.

Neither of us could ever claim to be foodies, so some of the dishes were a bit of a leap of faith for us to have something we'd never considered before, but Vidal explained each of the dishes as he presented them, as well as recommending a bottle of wine for us, since we know absolutely nothing about it!

All of the dishes were absolutely delicious, and presented beautifully - the stand outs for me were the Tataki of Tuna, with a ginger and soy dressing, the "Market Fish" of the day which was Sea Bass (my favourite fish!) and the Galician Beef.

If i had any criticism, it would be that the Prawn and rice dish didn't quite meet the high standards of the others,. and the "Madness of Colours dessert possibly didn't need ALL of the lemon and lime sauce that was added to it, as it simply caused the desserts to float around the plate. But these would be just minor niggles, triggers as much by the high standards of everything else we had eaten.

As the other reviews have said, Vidal is a one man band - front of house, Maitre D, Sommelier and Head Chef - but we still had first class, attentive service and there was no significant delay between courses. This was possibly aided by the fact that we were one of only 3 tables, amounting to 7 customers, but I suspect Vidal would have been equally unflappable with a full house.

When he served the final dessert course, he stopped to ask if it was our wedding anniversary that night (having remembered from my original e-mail booking over 2 months earlier) then produced 2 glasses of cava, on the house.

It was a truly memorable meal, and if we come back top Barcelona, we'll definitely be seeing Vidal again!
