“Lovely hotel”
Reviewed 15 March 2011

A lovely hotel. Negatives: afternoon coffee is free BUT be careful not to take any cake or you'll be charged for it (€6). No evening restaurant service (at least, not at the time we went). Slow bar/snack service. Breakfast variable - for example, I pointed out one morning that the scrambled egg was cold. Whilst they offered to cook me fresh scrammbled egg (good), they did nothing about the fact that the "hot" food tray was sitting in a bain-marie of cold water (bad). When my "freshly cooked" egg arrived, it had black bits in and appeared to be re-heated egg. No English-speaking TV channels. Positives: good location for tourist locations. Free wi-fi internet. Lazy breakfasts. Good size rooms.

This hotel is a haven in a busy city. It is certainly ideally situated for getting to all the attractions you wish to see. It is down near the marina at the bottom of La Ramblas, so as long as you like walking its good place to stay. We had a standard room at the front of the hotel overlooking the main road and the marina, whilst it is a main road and has a lot of traffic you do have the benfit of double glazing so the trafffic noise is not an issue. Our room was large, clean and tastefully decorated.
The Hotel is very comfortable and very welcoming. The staff are all helpful and anything you requested or needed was never to much for them to do for you. The buffet breakfast's accommodated everyone's taste and what we liked was that it was served from 7.00 until 10.30 -great if you dont like getting up to early.
The only criticism is that they did not clean the rooms until mid to late afternoon, but in their defence we did request that they cleaned it earlier in the day which they did.
Overall very impressed with Hotel and would certainly stay there again.

Hotel Duquesa De Cardona is a great boutique hotel located in the heart of the city. It was beautiful, clean, the rooftop area was extremely nice, the rooms were big and the staff was amazing. I also recommend visiting Montserrat!

We have just got back from a long weekend staying at this hotel and had a great time. The location is hard to beat (right on the front between the Ramblas and the Oympic Port area and within a short walk of lots of nice restaurants and the beach. The tourist bus stops are also nearby if you want to do get around the city on the bus.

I like smaller, more individual hotels that have a bit pf personality and this definately fitted the bill. It is a small/medium sized hotel with a really nice roof terrace that has some outdoor sofas, sunloungers and tables so you can have a drink and look at the view. I have read other reviews about the service on the roof terrace being poor and I would agree with that - it is very slow and you have to ring down to reception to get someone to come up as there isn't someone there all the time (this is understandable though as sometimes the terrace is empty). It would be much better if the service was better but as long as you don't get too stressed out about that kind of thing on holiday it's fine. They also do a great happy hour - free coffee for hotel guests from 5pm to 8pm which is great. The pool is tiny (like a jacuzzi) and freezing but I expect it would be lovely to cool off in in the middle of summer.

We didn't eat in the restaurant but the breakfast we had was excellent - fresh fruit, cereals, a lovely selection of bread and even 3 gorgeous looking cakes each day that I couldn't stomach that early! They also serve until 10.30am which is nice so you can have a leisurely breakfast. The only minor thing they could improve is you don't have your own coffee pot - there is just one with coffee and hot milk on the buffet.

The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are nice. If you are in any way a light sleeper - get a room on the inside of the hotel as it fronts a very busy road so there is some road noise. My parents had a deluxe sea view room which was a bit bigger and lighter than ours but did have a bit of noise. It was E30 more expensive than ours and wasn't a particularly nicer room - you are just paying a bit more for the view and a bigger space. I think you have to get a room in the next category to get sofas etc in your room. I did find our room quite dark as it faced the internal courtyard, but we didn't spend much time there and as it was really quiet that was fine. It said on the website that we would get a turndown and chocolates but we didn't ever have this.

Overall, it's a great hotel in a great location and it has a nice atmosphere so good for couples and great for enjoying the roof terrace if you like the fresh air.

We've just returned from a 3 night stay at the Duquesa. The staff are great and very pleasant. It was my birthday during our stay and the flowers my husband ordered beforehand were waiting for me in the room - and the receptionist wished me a happy birthday on checking in! Our room was lovely - very comfortable beds and not noisy at all, despite overlooking the street and busy road. The roof terrace is perfect for a lazy afternoon drink - fantastic views across the harbour. The location is perfect for all the main sites - 5 mins to La Rambla and loads of fantatsic restaurants nearby. Around 15 mins leisurely walk to the beach and Barceloneta. Will defo be back!

stayed at the hotel one day before and one day after the cruise. wheeled the luggage over to catch the port bus (E$2) that dropped us off by the cruise terminal. You can catch the blue bus that is parked parallel to the double decker hop on hop off bus(BARCELONA BUS TURISTIC) right across from cristopher columbus monument Can do the same thing once the ship returns to port! hotel is very nice/clean/modern and offered a good rate. walk to Ramblas/Bari Gotic. Would certainly stay there again.

Spent a weekend at the Cardona. It's in a fantastic location - equal distance between the old port, marinas and the sightseeing of the old quarter. Lots of windy, narrow streets just behind the hotel, buzzing with life and we always felt perfectly safe. The hotel is quite small and friendly. We found the reception to be perfectly friendly and helpful - especially when they stored our bags on the Sunday and didn't object to our returning several times throughout the day to add or remove items.
The room was on the small side and rather dark, though very comfortable. Strangely the bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom and was very luxurious. The hotel was very quiet, we never heard any room noise. Breakfast was excellent - typically continental, but a varied choice. The only negative was that we would have liked fresh coffee rather than the large thermos flasks which cooled rapidly. The open pool on the top floor is little more than a bath tub, but lovely views from the rooftop although the bar was empty when we visited. We'd certainly stay here again.
