We stayed here from 23 to 27 April 2014, a family of 4 ( 2 adults and 2 young children).
Peter from the hotel phoned a few days before our arrival to let us know that the room we had reserved through EasyJet / Booking.com was not available and offered us another room which was cheaper. We were happy enough with this and impressed that they rung us to let us know.
There is a small lift in the hotel, but for anyone who has difficulty walking, there are still a number of steps to negotiate with luggage to get to the lift.
Check-in was straightforward, Peter welcomed us and showed us to our room. As other reviewers have stated, the room is decorated in pink, the sets of drawers are plastic, and the only toiletry provided is a large tub of liquid soap. Room has TV, phone, microwave, fridge, air conditioning, automatic blind.
Location is good, a short walk to Plaza Catalunya. There is a taxi rank just across the road. The street was quiet at night so we were able to sleep.
There is a 24-hr buffet. Drinks on tap and a coffee/tea machine. Food was cereal, bread, fruit, ham, quiche, cheese, cooked chicken cubes, etc - suitable for snacks or lunch but not for dinner. As other reviews have stated, you use a plastic tray and cutlery, paper plates and disposable cups. You clear up after yourself and separate your waste into organic and non-organic bins.
At our first morning breakfast, my husband found a small live insect (looked like a fly) in his muesli. We thought this was a once-off. The next morning, he found more insects in his muesli, and one of our children found more insects in the pure orange juice. We notified the girl at reception, who apologized and asked for our room number so she could leave us a bottle of champagne as apology. We were not happy with this so next they offered to upgrade our room and put us into a suite. As we only had two more nights to stay, we did not think it was worthwhile relocating rooms, so we were finally told they would let us have one night's stay for free. The day before we left, I enquired as to what my bill would be for our stay. I explained that I felt we should have the two nights free as we had been unable to eat from the buffet since we found the insects. I asked to speak to the manager. To cut a long story short, Pilar the manager agreed to meet with us, making it clear that we were delaying her from a very important appointment. She did not take off her sunglasses the whole time she was talking at us. Firstly she said sorry that we had found the insects and that it had never happened before. She blamed the weather - the combination of the rain and the sun made the temperature just right for flies, and such things happened everywhere in every hotel. Then when I stated that finding flies in our food was an issue of lack of cleanliness and hygiene, she said that a member of staff, Mark, had made a mistake and hadn't done his job right, but he was only human and anybody could make mistakes and she couldn't toss him out the window for a mistake. I agreed that mistakes do happen, but I again stated that I felt we should have 2 nights free, since we had been unable to eat the buffet food. She would not negotiate and said we could leave and find somewhere else for our last night's stay. I said to her that the hotel markets itself as being unique for having the 24hr buffet which we could not use, and she stated that the room per night price was the same regardless of whether we ate any food or not. I said I would report the hotel for its lack of cleanliness and would report my experience on TripAdvisor. She said I could report it to whoever I liked, it didn't worry her. She refused to look at the photos I had taken of the insects in the food and drink, and said that we would never be welcome in her hotel again and we could not ever come back. She also said that if I posted a bad review on TripAdvisor she would be replying to it - so let's see what she has to say.
I would not stay here again.
