“Comercio - good!”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

I would recommend hotel but I would not recommend rooms along the street (Carrer dels Escudellers) - the noise is huge inside the room (we were on 4th floor! 423) that we couldn't almost sleep first night. There was no problem to relocate to another room when we asked service. Service very kind and helpful. We get another room (427) and there was perfect quiet. Rooms clean, beds comfortable, bathroom clean and nice. Hairdryer inside the bathroom, nice shower. Wifi connection very good. Very nice location of the hotel (a lot to see by walk). The AC is set by the service so we said to set 23 degrees and it was OK all night. Inside room you can turn off AC. I would not recommend option room + breakfast because breakfast is the weakest point of Comercio. Every day the same menu: cornflakes, milk, roll, jam (strawberry and peach - disposable), butter, yogurt, crossaints and ensaimada (traditional Spanish brioche), coffee and poor orange juice. We needed meat!;-) I would back to this hotel for next time.

Room Tip: Do not take a room along Carrer dels Escudellers street - veeeery noise in high season and very loud...

Great location and value for money! Modern/updated rooms. Clean. Breakfast was not the greatest, but for the amazing price I could go buy my own breakfast. Do not ask them to call their preferred cab company-it was a horrible experience. Walk to La Ramblas and get your own taxi. Most staff was amazingly helpful except for the fellow who seemed very annoyed when we asked him for help to get our air conditioning started. We would not have known how to adjust a little sensor on the window!!!

We picked this based on location, price and services offered - and it fulfilled all three criteria.

We booked a room with double bed. On arrival we found they'd put us in a twin room - we pointed this out to the receptionist who checked everything for us and organised a room change promptly (can't remember if we had to wait a few hours or one night - either way it wasn't much of an inconvenience). The twin room had air con, but we had to go to the reception to pick up its remote control and pay a deposit for the remote (which we got back). When we moved to the double room the air con didn't need a remote control but was quite confusing to use - reception is very helpful with this however! We were taken aback by the sellotape on one of the air con units, but rest assured the air con still worked 100%.

Beds are comfy enough. Room was on the inside of the building (facing scaffolding - which was no complaint for the price), therefore quiet, although we did hear our neighbouring room one night when they were being quite loud. Otherwise noise level is fine.

Breakfast is just what you need - options are: frosted cornflakes, croissant, some other sweet pastry, bread rolls, orange juice, strong coffee (which is what you need when living by the Spanish clock), different flavours of yoghurt (all lovely without being too sweet), plus butter and different flavours of jam (strawberry and apricot, I believe). Restocked quickly and breakfast staff are all friendly and courteous and will gladly accept a good morning or a thank you. Personally as long as I have fuel for the day I'm happy!

Rooms were cleaned regularly, perhaps only once did we walk in and find that the towels hadn't been changed (which was probably the same time as the below incident, which was convenient!)

We walked in one afternoon and found that a cockroach had fallen from the roof by the sink (likely from the vent/fan) - we trapped it and told reception and they gave us a time to come back where it would be removed and the sink cleaned, which they did so.

Other details: hotel provides plastic cups and a small bar of soap, but don't expect this to be replaced every day. No problem for the two of us. Air con may switch off automatically while you're out but doesn't take too long to work.

Reception was always friendly and helpful and spoke good English.

Perfect if you want to focus more on getting out and exploring and experiencing beautiful Barcelona and less on being pampered in one building - would come here again. Location was ideal (there is also a great restaurant nearby called Safra 18 - not to be missed!).

We just used the hotel to sleep and to eat. Reception was very helpful with us, and rooms where cleaned everyday. Our main disappointment was the breakfast as we did not have any selection apart from cereal and bread.

When my group read the reviews on this hotel we were a little bit concerned what to expect, but the hotel is really good!
The room has TV, confortable beds and it is quiet. The stay included a really nice breakfeast that included coffee, milk, juice, bread, jams and yogurt.
Located next to The Ramblas, it was really easy to move around.
We found out that the hotel has been recently reformed so it was better that we hoped for. Totally worth value!

We were not expecting much from this hotel and even our travel agent was hesitant about us staying somewhere with so few stars (rating), however we were happy to 'rough it' before our luxury cruise which departed from Barcelona.

Boy were we in for a shock. The hotel was much better than we were expecting and we actually really enjoyed our stay there.

Our room was refurbished and really nice, much better rating than it leads you to believe. The bathroom was great, the beds were very comfy, there's free WIFI, and it was just a very comfortable clean stay.

Location wise, for the money I don't think it gets much better.... just a few steps from Las Ramblas and almost right next door to a convenience store, pharmacy, restaurants and taxis not to mention the markets!! It's also a pleasant walk to the shopping centre and marina.

The breakfast buffet was good and offered more choice than I was expecting. Hubby said the coffee from the machine was really good too - a great way to start your day in this awesome city!

Check-in/check-out was very easy and hassle free and the staff were pleasant. We were given a map of Barcelona which was very helpful.

In summary, we were really impressed with this little place and certainly recommend it especially if you're new to Barcelona.

I've been with my mother. We've got a perfect 3 persons bedroom on the 4th floor with elevator. Beautiful renovated, luxurious bathroom, fine matrasses. Our favorite receptionist Frederique was very friendly with fine tips were to eat and NOT to go.. We had such a good time in the heart of Barcelona. Don't forget youre earplugs however, because youre sleeping next to de placa Reial, a beautifull but noisy square...
