Just back from a 5 night stay at the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya with my 17 year old daughter. On arrival we were upgraded and given a room on the 19th floor which gave us spectacular views of all the fireworks on New Year's Eve! The hotel is just across from the main train station (you don't get any noise though) so has fantastic transport links. Everything is very clean, the maid service was very good and I was very impressed with the complimentary Molten Brown toiletries!
On booking via the hotel website we received an email from the hotel asking if there was anything they could do to make our stay as comfortable and happy as possible. They provided us with comprehensive information on how to get from the airport to the hotel and as we had booked direct with the hotel we were given free wi-fi in our room.
Overall we had a fantastic stay in Barcelona and would definitely use this hotel again.

Room Tip: The rooms on the higher floors give great views across Barcelona!

My partner and I have just returned from a 3 night city break to Barcelona. We stayed at the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya. First impressions were very good, Georgina (the lady at reception) was very friendly and welcoming. When we went up to our room we were very impressed with the beautiful view overlooking the Magic Fountain. Unfortunately the room had not been cleaned to a high enough standard in my opinion, with there being balls of dust on the floor, and hairs in the bathroom. The grouting had also seen better days and was very stained.
The hotel is in an ideal location, right next to sants station with the metro which we found very simple and easy to use.
We used the underground to go to Las Ramblas, La Sagrada Família, Arc de Triomf and Barcelona Zoo. A short walk down the road from the hotel there are many cafe's and restaurants, and a shopping centre. The magic fountain and the palace are all a short distance away too.
We ate in the visual restaurant which was amazing! The food was delicious, good wine and a beautiful view across the city.
All in all we had an amazing trip and the hotel was very good, the only things I do have to mention are the swimming pool area is an absolute rip off! I have stayed in very similar hotels with better pool and spa facilities that you do not have to pay for, whereas at Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya we were charged 7.50 for a pool that was too cold, there wasn't enough loungers and very limited facilities. We were very disappointed.
The contents of the mini bar were also well past their expiry date but we were still charged full price for them. We were also charged some sort of tax on top of our hotel stay. It wasn't very much but this wasn't a charge we were told we would have to pay upon checking out and quite a surprise. So just expect to pay a tax of around 1.20 per person, per night.
Overall I would definitely return to this Hotel but there are a few things that could do with attention that would of made our stay even more enjoyable and comfortable!

Room Tip: Higher Floor, with view towards the Magic Fountains.

Last time we stayed here there were some issues; this time all was perfect. At less than half the cost of their five star competition, this hotel offers large rooms and friendly, helpful service. it's literally a couple of minutes walk to two metro lines, the main train station, supermarkets and lots of local, good restaurants. If you're like us, not being right by the Ramblas and touristy areas is a major plus. While its starting to show a bit of age, everything is clean and well maintained. With floor to ceiling windows, the views from the higher floors are fantastic. Next time around, give this hotel a try, and use the money you saved to eat well for the day.

Room Tip: The view from the higher floors is worth the price. Watch for advertised sales, as you may find an upgraded room or suite for not much more than the standard room.

We loved this hotel. It’s right next to the Sants (a very big subway and train station), so you can easily get anywhere via Metro and train station. Downtown was only 10-15 min away. Loved the luxury of the clean rooms, and comfy beds, and spaciousness. Very nice and classy hotel. The train is the same line as you need to get to the airport so that was very handy. Good value. There are lovely fountains and parks close by - called Magic Fountains - in easy walking distance.

The hotel is near the bus station, not really near much shopping. The front desk staff and the valet assistants were top notch, particularly with directions and advice. Taxis were plentiful as well. The room itself was nothing spectacular. Bed was comfortable, low to the ground. The bathroom was functioning, but had the problem of a bit of black grout here and there. The large windows made it difficult to regulate air/heat. Breakfast is served on the top floor (beautiful view) and had just about everything you would want, eggs, breakfast meats and pastries, fruit, asian choices, cheese, breads, juices.
