It is a foot walk from Sans railway station and Monjuic neigbourhood, breathtaking landmark in Barcelona. Undergound stop croosing the road. Several cafés and restaurants around. We also tried its spa which is cheap and good.

The experience at Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya was absolutely terrible. I really don't know what kind of rooms the other reviewers are getting, but the room we got was the worst , the noisiest that we have ever stayed. The room is on the same side of the hotel front door, faces that square. You can hear anything and everything that is outside of the hotel, and it is so clear that you can even join people's conversations! You hear cars/buses constantly braking and taking off, people talking, screaming, yelling, etc... nonstop! And mind you this is Barcelona, and people somehow talk/party the whole night, so you can seriously forget about sleeping.

We complained about the problem, but were told that we need to pay extra to change room as those rooms are on higher floors! Are you kidding me?! What happened to customer satisfaction? They refused to do anything to address the problem, unless we pay more money! Mind you, we did not get any kind of 'deal' with this hotel, we paid the standard rate on Expedia as most of the people.

What a nightmare!

We had a room on 22nd floor, the views were amazing! staff were all very helpful and friendly and spoke good English. The rooms are very clean, comfy beds. not right in the heart of the city but about 10 mins walk from placa espanya and right next to train/metro station so great links to anywhere you could want to go!

Stayed at this hotel based on strong TA ratings AND a competitive price- to be frank, a VERY competitive price.

In my opinion BCN hotels are generally underwhelming and pricey. You pay a fortune for a hotel that doesnt have earth shaking amenities like a great gym or fabulous pool....just a 'great' location next to all the tourist spots with maybe a tiny pool or tiny rooftop bar- and for that you pay an additional 100 to 200 Euro per night. Nice, but not worth it.

The only exception was the W, but that one is out in the middle of nowhere (yeah by the water on the beach...but what if it rains or it's cold- was the case for us on the days we were there). You're spending time stuck in cabs (and paying a fortune each time you want to go to town).

Enter the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya. Central, affordable and not pretending to be more than it is.

Right infront of the Barcelona Sants train station- it is convenient but the neighborhood is average at best and the train station sketchy at night....no matter....3-5min cab ride and we were in the heart of the action each evening. During the day, we walked to the metro and rolled with the locals- always keeping our eyes open as petty theft is still an issue in this town.

The Gran Hotel Torre caters to tourists- bus loads of them infact. That said, we checked in as a bus load of Japanese tourists arrived and it was an interesting experience:
1. Their check-in process was remarkably smooth and didnt impact our check-in time
2. When I see Japanese people turn up, I know the hygiene of the place is good...and this leading indicator was correct- clean hotel.

Rooms good sized, bed and bedding was quality for this price point- special note, premium amenities in the bathroom, lots of towels AND the best part of all- AWESOME water pressure in the shower....really nice.

Used the gym- yes, it's tiny, one cardio machine was broken, but I was able to get a basic workout in- all I asked for.

There is also a small indoor pool (underground pools don't do it for me) which looked very clean and well kept up.

Room doors were perhaps a bit thin, but fortunately our neighbors were quiet as they came and went.

TV is an old tube TV- but I didnt have a chance to see the channels.

Decor is a bit dated but everything worked and the windows let in lots of light/curtains blocked out the light at night.

For what we wanted, this nicely met our needs and budget. Would return and recommend.

Great location for transport a stones throw from Estacio Sants with fast connections to the airport and city. The building and immediate surrounds don't have the most soul but it's safe and pleasant. The hotel is quite new build and very modern. The room was large, and had a very spacious bathroom which was excellent. As it was my birthday weekend the helpful staff arranged a surprise of free chocolates and sweets/petals in the shape of '30' - a nice touch! We had a room with a view (pictured) which had terrific visibility of the marina, hillsides and camp nou.

Room Tip: Higher you go, better the view

Booked this as a stopover between Paris & Tarragona due to its closeness to Sants estacio. Literally across the road from this busy station. Nice rooms with thoroughly polite, engaging and friendly staff. Rooms decent with air con etc. Bathroom excellent. Would be happy to return. We actually walked from the hotel down to Las Ramblas at night and back...we are walkers in our 50s...it is an easy/flat walk but wonderful public transport possibilities if less fit. Would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel.

From the moment we arrived until we left the experience was excellent. The staff was very professional and caring. The rooms were large clean and very modern, with a spectacular view of the city. When we go back to Barcelona for a longer stay there is no other hotel we would consider
