Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya
Ranked #101 of 516 Hotels in Barcelona
Reviewed 9 July 2014

We stayed at the Gran hotel Torre Catalunya for five days after returning from a week cruise on the Epic. I chose the hotel based on Trip advisor reviews and once again I could not have been more pleased. The hotel has an excellent location across from the Sans train station and metro. It is just a short walking distance from many restaurants, Plaza de Espana and a remodeled bull ring that is now a shopping center.
The rooms are large and very luxurious with marble floors and modern wood cabinetry and tons of storage space. The hotel has easy to connect free wi-fi.The bathroom has both a huge shower and a tub as well as a separate room with the toilet and bidet. We had a regular view of the neighborhood because we did not pay for an upgrade but some of the rooms on higher floors have spectacular views.
The most amazing thing we found was the friendly staff. From the day we arrived they provided suggestions of a Tapas Festival and how to get there. They helped us with the internet connection to purchase tickets for La Sagrada Familia. One late night when I realized we were missing a credit card, they helped us call The bank to cancel it. We realized on the way to the airport that we left an item behind. The hotel staff located it and made sure that it was mailed back to us in Miami
We were extremely happy with this hotel and regret that we did not have the time to eat in their roofttop restaurant. We certainly need to go back . This was the trip of a lifetime and we are so happy that the excellent team at this hotel helped make it so!,,,.

Room Tip: If you want a spectacular view, get the upgrade.

I booked the hotel because of the good reviews and the views they showed. It was a special birthday so i decided to push the boat out, upgraded room, higher floor and ordrered Cava, strawberries, petals on the bed, candles and single rose. Life would have been so much simpler if I hadn't.

We arrived before official check in so the room was not ready, as we were told it would be just 40 minutes we decided to wait. We were not told about the hotel bar, so just stayed on the street until the due time. When we came back we were told it was not ready and would be at least another half an hour. If we had known that in the first place we would have dropped bags off and gone into the city.

The receptionist discretely explained that the room was read but the extra rose I had ordered wasn't and that was why I had been made to wait. I said if everything else is in the room the rose can come up later, not a problem. She checked and said the Cava had been delivered. When we got up to the room, no Cava, no strawberries just 8 petals on the bed which as my wife didn't know i had ordered anything just looked like that was how the hotel its beds up. The candles were in the bathroom but they had left no matches so i couldn't even light them.

I got fed up waiting on my luggage so in the end i came down and took my own luggage.i also told a male receptionist there was still nothing in the room.

The rose turned up at 8pm,. the cava and strawberries did not appear during my 4 days stay.

Really spoilt it for me to be honest.

Room Tip: Higher up has better views. You can upgrade on check in and add breakfast.

We stayed at the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya for one night on our way to Croatia. The hotel is located across from the Barcelona Sants train station and approximately a 30 minute walk to Las Rambla, which we found to be an easy walk. There are several metro lines which pass by and the Renfe trains, every 30 minutes to the airport.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and could not do enough for my wife and I.
The night we stayed happened to be the night of the St John's festival which was drowned in the noise of fireworks until approx. 2.30 in the morning. The windows definitely were not double glazed. Once this noise died down we eventually had a good sleep.
The room was on the 17th floor with a corner location and the views were spectacular. The room was huge with a king bed, desk, table with 2 chairs, TV, safe, fridge and free WiFi.
The bathroom was clean and had a very large shower, separate bath and toilet, vanity and lots of toiletries.
The rooftop restaurant for breakfast on the 23rd floor has stunning views of Barcelona. The breakfast was excellent with a mix of pastries, cereals, yoghurts, breads, bacon, eggs, local sausages and hash browns included in the hot section.
We went for a late afternoon walk and when we returned, there was a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses in our room and a message wishing us a happy wedding anniversary. What a great surprise.
Would highly recommend this hotel and will stay again.

Room Tip: Pay that little bit extra for a room on the higher floors and take in the views.

I stayed at the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya on a week long business trip during St John's Festival. The night of the festival was drowned in the noise of fireworks. I am not one for being a grump, but they happened literally all night.

This was apparent in single glazing windows which do not keep the noise out very well. The traffic noises were also prevalent throughout my stay which made a good night sleep hard to come by.

The rooftop restaurant has stunning views of Barcelona. Breakfast was good - nothing special but good. The bar was small but well serviced and looked the part. Prices were what you expect (but shouldn't accept) from a hotel bar which made drinking there a rarity.

One bizarre thing is the thickness of the pillows - absolutely massive and gave me a sore neck! I could have asked housekeeping for different ones I guess but it was a bit bizarre.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor.

We enjoyed our stay in Grand Hotel Torre Catalunya, very friendly staff, big and clean rooms. We were lucky and had a corner room on the 16th floor and enjoyed a magnificent panorama. The hotel is very good located next to the Sants train station. Several metro lines pass by and with the renfe trains (every 30 min) the airport is very easy to reach no need for busses or taxi.

This hotel is in a good location, opposite the train station and close to Place Espanya and the Aerobus to and from the airport.

We stayed in a North facing room on the ninth floor. The room was one of their basics: there was two showers in a very large bathroom and plenty of space in the room itself. There was also a desk, good size wardrobes, two comfy chairs and a small table and floor to ceiling windows with stunning views of the northern part of the city.

The staff were all friendly and I would happily stay here again.

My husband and I stayed 4 nights. This is a beautiful hotel with a lot of great amenities. It's right across the street from the train station so that is very convenient if you're traveling by train. The front desk employees were very nice and helpful. Patricia checked us in and was very welcoming. Our train was cancelled to our next destination due to a train strike in France. We checked out of the hotel and after getting to the train station, saw it was cancelled. We booked a flight that left later that evening. We went back to the hotel and they held our luggage and also let us use the lobby and wi-fi. This was extremely helpful and made a stressful situation much better.

The rooms are very large and so is the bathroom. They gave us a room on the higher floor for free and the views are great. They could use some updating on the furniture as there were some scratches.

We didn't eat breakfast there as it seemed a little pricey to us. We did eat at the bar/restaurant near the lobby and the food was ok. A little overpriced.

The wi-fi is good. They give you slippers which is a nice extra touch.

The location is good as far as being across from the train station but it's about a 30 minute walk to Las Rambles and the beach area. Sometimes we walked and it was nice to see the city. Other times we took the metro (there is a stop very close to the hotel). Beware of the Metro. There are a lot of pickpockets, especially on the metro. Someone tried to get into my husbands backpack that was on his one shoulder but he caught the guy.

Overall, we enjoyed this hotel and it was a welcome change to the other hotels we stayed at in Europe as they were all very small.
