Nothing but good things to say about this hotel. I read some reviews indicating pressure was put on travelers to upgrade to higher floors or to partake of their breakfast buffet. We had no such pressure. The hotel is very nice - everything we needed. Very close to public transportation (within a block) and the Montjuic evening water show. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: Our room was only on the 4th floor. Other reviews have said the higher floors have a great view, but our view was fine for our purposes.

Negatives of this hotel (stayed for 4 nights):
Asked for a double bed, got 2 separate beds instead. Asked for a quiet room, got a corner room (with nice view over the city), but noisy from outside and with a noisy neighbor (could hear her talking on the phone around midnight and showering and all other kinds of noises from the hallway). One of the days the maid took our towels and didn't leave new ones, had to call reception and wait for a long while before we got new towels. The AC in the bedroom was placed so it directly blew cold air onto the bed, very inconvinient and we were lucky not to get a cold.
The worst impression of all was the service. There was a mixup in our booking and instead of room for 2 adults, we had only 1 on the booking. So the hotel imposed a charge on the second adult of 12 eur per night. That was a bit of a bummer, but ok, not a big deal. The worst was that we were called and got letters from reception each day to contact them to clarify that charge and if we were gonna pay it. We said we would, but as we would expect, we could pay everything at once during check out. Instead we were bothered every single day, and different staff members said different things, and every time we went to the front desk, there was a long waiting line. After all, we went down, stood in line for a while and then the man at the front desk didn't even know what the issue was. He then said that we had to pay for everything the first day (something no one told us, even at the check in). After we paid for the fees and the nights, I asked if we would need to pay the day after (when we check out), and the reply was that we had to pay every day and so we had to pay at the check out also. That was the most idiotic and inconvinient stay in the hotel that we've ever encountered. The lack of organization, English knowledge or understanding perhaps completely ruined the impression of this hotel. Turned out that we didn't need to pay for anything at the check out since we've paid for everything in advance.
Positives:
In the upgraded room, higher floor=better view. Panoramic overview of the city from the 23rd floor (breakfast and dinner floor). Good location, right next to the train station. Very big (we thought uneccessary big) room.

Room Tip: Get an upgraded room, which are on a higher floor, best views and probably less noisy.

We stayed at the Gran hotel Torre Catalunya for five days after returning from a week cruise on the Epic. I chose the hotel based on Trip advisor reviews and once again I could not have been more pleased. The hotel has an excellent location across from the Sans train station and metro. It is just a short walking distance from many restaurants, Plaza de Espana and a remodeled bull ring that is now a shopping center.
The rooms are large and very luxurious with marble floors and modern wood cabinetry and tons of storage space. The hotel has easy to connect free wi-fi.The bathroom has both a huge shower and a tub as well as a separate room with the toilet and bidet. We had a regular view of the neighborhood because we did not pay for an upgrade but some of the rooms on higher floors have spectacular views.
The most amazing thing we found was the friendly staff. From the day we arrived they provided suggestions of a Tapas Festival and how to get there. They helped us with the internet connection to purchase tickets for La Sagrada Familia. One late night when I realized we were missing a credit card, they helped us call The bank to cancel it. We realized on the way to the airport that we left an item behind. The hotel staff located it and made sure that it was mailed back to us in Miami
We were extremely happy with this hotel and regret that we did not have the time to eat in their roofttop restaurant. We certainly need to go back . This was the trip of a lifetime and we are so happy that the excellent team at this hotel helped make it so!,,,.

Room Tip: If you want a spectacular view, get the upgrade.

I booked the hotel because of the good reviews and the views they showed. It was a special birthday so i decided to push the boat out, upgraded room, higher floor and ordrered Cava, strawberries, petals on the bed, candles and single rose. Life would have been so much simpler if I hadn't.

We arrived before official check in so the room was not ready, as we were told it would be just 40 minutes we decided to wait. We were not told about the hotel bar, so just stayed on the street until the due time. When we came back we were told it was not ready and would be at least another half an hour. If we had known that in the first place we would have dropped bags off and gone into the city.

The receptionist discretely explained that the room was read but the extra rose I had ordered wasn't and that was why I had been made to wait. I said if everything else is in the room the rose can come up later, not a problem. She checked and said the Cava had been delivered. When we got up to the room, no Cava, no strawberries just 8 petals on the bed which as my wife didn't know i had ordered anything just looked like that was how the hotel its beds up. The candles were in the bathroom but they had left no matches so i couldn't even light them.

I got fed up waiting on my luggage so in the end i came down and took my own luggage.i also told a male receptionist there was still nothing in the room.

The rose turned up at 8pm,. the cava and strawberries did not appear during my 4 days stay.

Really spoilt it for me to be honest.

Room Tip: Higher up has better views. You can upgrade on check in and add breakfast.

We stayed at the Gran Hotel Torre Catalunya for one night on our way to Croatia. The hotel is located across from the Barcelona Sants train station and approximately a 30 minute walk to Las Rambla, which we found to be an easy walk. There are several metro lines which pass by and the Renfe trains, every 30 minutes to the airport.
The reception staff were very friendly and helpful and could not do enough for my wife and I.
The night we stayed happened to be the night of the St John's festival which was drowned in the noise of fireworks until approx. 2.30 in the morning. The windows definitely were not double glazed. Once this noise died down we eventually had a good sleep.
The room was on the 17th floor with a corner location and the views were spectacular. The room was huge with a king bed, desk, table with 2 chairs, TV, safe, fridge and free WiFi.
The bathroom was clean and had a very large shower, separate bath and toilet, vanity and lots of toiletries.
The rooftop restaurant for breakfast on the 23rd floor has stunning views of Barcelona. The breakfast was excellent with a mix of pastries, cereals, yoghurts, breads, bacon, eggs, local sausages and hash browns included in the hot section.
We went for a late afternoon walk and when we returned, there was a bottle of champagne and 2 glasses in our room and a message wishing us a happy wedding anniversary. What a great surprise.
Would highly recommend this hotel and will stay again.

Room Tip: Pay that little bit extra for a room on the higher floors and take in the views.
