“Great location, beautiful rooms, friendly staff... a winner!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 July 2010

My wife and I stayed here for a week in April 2010 as part of our honeymoon.

The first thing to say is location is excellent. Very close to the action with most attractions easily walkable (Las Ramblas literally a stumble away), but still on a very quiet street.

The rooms are beautifully furnished - very trendy and cool without being overly pretentious or clinical.

The staff were friendly and helpful also.

All in all, very highly recommended!

Really enjoyed the 4 night stay at the Pulitzer. Fab location just off Placa de Catalunya. Friendly and helpful reception staff...gorgeous display of lilies in the reception area. Nice room although a little tight at the end of the bed...having to squeeze past the flat screen tv on the wall. Also a little dark in the room, but comfy and clean. Had a superior room which I think was just a little larger along with a settee. This had a mini balcony which you could just step onto, overlooking the street. Spacious enough bathroom with nice smelling shower gel/body lotion...shower hot enough etc. Standard hotel hairdryer in bathroom...no iron...room safe in cupboard. Minibar is sort of camouflaged into the wall. Had no trouble with hotel noise, slept soundly, was woken up just after 9am on 1 morning but this was by the person next door slamming their door. Stayed on floor 5 tucked away into the corner so I guess noise levels vary dependent on where you are situated in the hotel.Communal areas of the hotel are contemporary and chic. Terrace bar and hotel bar area v nice. Breakfast room very clean and light with a terrace area outside... breaky was sufficient but not outstanding, bit repetitive. Would stay here again as the location is great...rates quite expensive though, perhaps it is worth shopping around a little. We have stayed in other hotels perhaps only a few hundred yards further away from the square whose rates have been a little more reasonable. Having said this, I would recommend this hotel and would not have a problem staying here again. For 1st time visitors to barcelona...areobus is a cheap and easy method of transport from the airport. Costs 5 Euros 5 cents, takes approx 30 mins (traffic dependent). Outside Terminal 2 turn left and look for the large 'A'...this is the bus stop. Has 3 stops...last 1 placa de catalunya.

Hotel Pulitizer is a nice hotel close to everything to do n Barcelona. The Hop on and off bus is right up the street and I highly recommend it if you have only a day or two there. The rooms are small, with wood floors (which could be cleaner). The hotel has a modern flare to it. The service is good and on a quiet street. Close to Las Rambus.

I've booked for this hotel via the internet only a day before the arriving day, and by mistake instead of booking for July I've booked for September.
I found out about it only at the hotel and of course I've got nervous, but the staff was so helpful, specially Amanda.
They explained that because the hotel is full for the first night I can stay in Hotel Regina, the next door hotel ( they have the same owner), for the first night and than to came back to Pulitzer hotel.

I preferred to stay in Hotel Regina for the all the period because of convenient reasons and I wont regret that .

In my next trip to barcelona I certainty will stay at one of these hotels.

The Pulitzer could be great. Really great. From the convenient location to the elegant and stylish public spaces and on to the funky roof garden, initial impressions are very good indeed.

Once you get under the skin of the place, however, you realise it's a triumph of style over substance. In the case of truly great hotels, substance is the obsessive attention to operational and service detail that makes every aspect of your stay a joy. The Pulitzer is far, far from that.

Some examples:

Who thought it a good idea to have part wood, part carpet surfaces in the corridors? When the service trollies are pulled along they clitter-clatter like a railway carriage.

And in a leisure hotel, is vacuuming the same carpets at 08:45 really a good idea when most of your guests have been out on the tiles and want a lie in?

And, when the trip advisor reviews point to the popularity of your roof top terrace, is it really fair to your paying guests to hire it out to a private party on a Saturday night? A Tuesday, maybe...

So it goes on. Luigi, the charming and helpful night-time barman was a shining beacon of friendliness among a team that was studiously dour or, in the case of the breakfast waitress, downright rude.

Last tip: it might be a good idea to (a) tell your guests where the mini-bar is (it's a bit hidden, in another design conceit); and (b) have room safes that don't open themselves automatically, leaving your passports open to theft. Or maybe it's just the one in room 510...

We stayed five days in the Pulitzer during our stay in Barcelona. And what a wonderful time we had!
The check-in was fast, and we had our room immediately, altough we arrived early. We had a superior room, which was very clean and nice. The bathroom was lovely and the amenities was great. (His and hers - now thats stylish!)

Rooms were not big, but they were stylish and had a nice decor.

There was no iron og ironing board in the room, but a quick phone call to the front desk, and it was brougth up to our room. (Really fast)

The hotel has a lovely roof-top terrace, where we enjoyed wonderful drinks every night in the great Spanish weather.

We have really high standards, but The Pulitzer blew us away. IT WAS PERFECT!
We will definitely come back.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 4 nights at the Hotel Pulitzer last month. I LOVE the decor... it is modern without being cold. Fun top floor outdoor bar area. Fun bottom floor restaurant and bar / living area. The front desk staff was helpful and spoke English well. We were on the 4th floor and didn't hear any street noise.

The only problem we encountered was one night about 10 steps from the hotel we encountered a man urinating on the street near the dumpster. I don't think he was the first one to do so - that area smelled bad each time we walked by! But this is a big city and that is a typical big city problem.

Also I thought that the rate I pre-paid included breakfast, but upon check-in I found out that it did not. We are breakfast at the hotel one day but then found other options.

If / when we return, we will definitely stay at Hotel Pulitzer again!
