“Authentic catalan flavours”
Reviewed 12 May 2014 via mobile

Koxkera is a little old fashioned catalan restaurant, where you can eat a delicious paella! We tried "paella marinara" and it was fantastic. As starters we had also gazpacho, "pan y tomate" (a typical catalan bread with garlic, oil and tomatoes), "jamon iberico" (traditional spanish ham) and prawns salad. Everything was terrific. Ad dessert we tried crema catalana, the most wonderful way for finishing a great dinner. The waiters are gentle and hospitable, letting you quietly experience real catalan flavours in a traditional atmosphere.

“Excellent place for family dinner”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We enjoyed an Easter dinner with family in a city that we'd never been to. We were very pleasantly surprised! Each dish was memorable, but I especially liked the slow cooked lamb shoulder.

The staff was very helpful from the beginning, where they helped us through the menu and made recommendations, to the end, where they called a cab to the door for my ailing mother.

“One of the best places to eat in Barcelona”
Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

It is definitely hard to find Koxkera but it Worth's the effort. The staff were really friendly and our server recommended an amazing bottle of white wine for just 10 euros. The food, marinated mussels and two paellas, was the best i have eaten in my 3 days in Barcelona. Definitely worth's a visit! Great food and value for money !

“This authentic Spanish restaurant was one of the best eating experiences we have ever had in any of our foreign or domestic trav”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Our waiter Jorge guided us through the menu so that my husband and I shared a 4-course appetizer consisting of a free anchovy-tomato tempenade-bread, about 2 dozen tiny sweet local clams in Catalonian olive oil and garlic, butter-soft calamari on potato slices drizzled in olive oil, followed by an assortment of fresh seafood and shell fish in a homemade sauce with bread for dipping. That shared appetizer was enough to feed us for a week, but was followed by the best paella I have ever eaten. It was perfectly cooked, each seafood was tender but not over-done, the capers were the same size as the peas, the rice was authentic Spanish. It was followed by home made flan, which is slightly different than Mexican flan in an interesting way. The Catalonian white wine was an excellent pairing. Jorge was generous in answering our questions about the cooking methods and food sources. We enjoyed the mellow jazz (Rod Lucas, Diana Krall, George Benson, Kevin Malone). They even played a jazz artist who we recommended. Our bill was €66, which was about €450 less than the Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris where we are the previous week. It is worth the trip to the suburbs for this delightful experience.

“Great fresh mussels”
Reviewed 5 April 2014

The highlight of the meal for me was the mussels served on a bed of cabbage - really delicious and fresh. We also had meat croquettes with a nice little aioli and some tomato bread were very nice too. I haven't had a huge amount of paella before - it was nice but not the best have ever had as had a great one in Andorra. Instead of just bread to start we were served tomato bread with anchovy which I liked (and my daughter liked without the anchovy). We finished with cheesecake and creme brulee and some tea. The white wine went well with the meal.
