We booked this apartment for 3 people (not cheap, 501 euros for 4 nights) in August 2012 and were looking forward to have a good holiday. Few days before departure we were informed by the management team that there was no elevator in this 5 storey building but we would have our room on first floor. Alarm bells rang but we decided to give it a go.
We reached there. The location was OK and very near to Ramblas. We were given an address of a nearby restaurant and asked to wait there on arrival where a gentleman came to meet us and took us to a building which looked like a residential block. There was no reception and we were taken to a room on 4th floor via a very narrow staircase. The room was very small for 3 people and we were told that there was no room available which could accommodate 3 people and we were offered an extra room on another floor which means that all 3 of us in the family could not be together. Not really our vision of a family holiday!
The weather was extremely hot and we were sweating a lot. Then the bomb-shell was dropped that there was no air conditioning in the room and for that matter in most of the rooms. It was clearly mentioned in the information at the time of booking that there was air conditioning.
By this time we were quite sceptical of other services in the lodging, felt angry, cheated and decided not to check- in. However we have still been charged the full amount. We reported this to the booking website but the owner have rejected all claims as false and refused to pay back. They even claimed that they offered to repair the air conditioning etc.
Looking through other websites now it appears that other people have had similar experience. There certainly are other places available for a comparable place and we would not recommend this apartment to anyone.
