We met Alex at the designated time and place unsure what the evening had in store for us. Alex was warm and personable to all in the group. The your took a group of strangers and turned them into companions while wee all explored parts of Barcelona that nobody ever tells you about. We walked into tiny Bodegas that would never catch your eye, to try local drinks and food. Visited markets, restaurants, breweries. I cannot rate this event highly enough. We had a fabulous time and would do another tour with Aborígens without any hesitation. Best money ever spent while on holiday.

“Surpassed our expectations.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 April 2014

We booked a private tour early in our two week trip. The staff stayed in touch and expressed real interest in what sort of experience we wanted. Our tour focused on the Sant Antoni district and began at the old market at about 11am.Our guide was Cesc, who is very friendly and relaxed and incredibly well-informed about Catalonian food, of course, but about Catalonian culture, history and politics. We could not have hand-picked anyone more well-suited to introduce us to the non-touristy, unpretentious and authentic Catalonian food in this district. Cesc is a journalist and has written free-lance political pieces from some daunting places. Ask him to tell you about this should he be your guide. He is a well-published food writer, too, and has a book forthcoming in October (Penguin Press).
If you want a food tour with a small group or would prefer a customized private tour, this is your company. They are an articulate (entirely fluent in English, too), warm, smart and food-passionate group. You will, I think, find it an highlight if you book a tour while in Barcelona. Cesc has been generous enough, too, to suggest lots of places in various areas around the city when I've emailed
for suggestions.
You will not be disappointed. This was one of our best and most memorable travel experiences.
Cheers, and Bon Appetite!

“Alex was a fantastic guide”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 April 2014

Although I have been in Barcelona several times, it has always been for work. This time, we had a week to explore the food of Barcelona. We have had good experiences booking food tours, and this one was great. Our hotel Destination BCN had given us some really good restaurant tips - even the Aborigens team was impressed by the tips. However, having a guide show us their view of Barcelona was really wonderful including a fabulous market that was under construction.

Very highly recommended!

“Discover Catalan history and cuisine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 March 2014

What a day, we feel privileged to be given this insight into the Catalan lifestyle and cuisine. Our guide Cesc, proved to be a passionate and knowledgable companion as he tempted our taste buds with breakfast at the rooms of sustainable farmer and notable Spanish chef Oriol Rovira, visited the farmhouse where the pork and many other products are sourced. Onto a house which incredibly housed Roman artefacts and a working water driven flour mill dating back over 1000 years in the dining room as we ate cheese produced on premise. A delicious lunch of the best of Catalan food and wine were followed by a tour of a seaside Sustainable winery producing Cava (Spanish sparkling wine) among other varieties and a generous tasting. As we took the private day long tour, it was not cheap but it was certainly worth it.

“A unbeatable foray into the real world of barcelona flavor and history”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 March 2014

One part history, two parts fabulous food three parts exciting local venues and four parts warm, passionate and entertains hosts(ours was Francesco ). This was a amazing tour- went from 5:30 to 9:30 and we ate and drank so much we thought we would explode and looked forward to the 5 to 8 minute jaunts between locations to make room for the next course. As equally satisfying as the food was the engaging history lesson including passionate explanations of the food and food traditions. I think we went to six ,,,or was it seven venues. Rubbing shoulders with the locals in establishments that varied from purposes exposed brick and craft beer to places where instead of wait staff there are "contributors" neighbours of the owners of questionable sobriety( since they are paid in free drinks) but none the less friendly and serving great local food. This tour will not suit you if you are stuffy or looking for molecular gastronomy. Be prepared to taste incredible Catalan cuisine and have the history explained and any question answered. As a added bonus.. Once you sign on for the tour you get a personal food advisor who will answer your questions by email regarding your questions outside the tour for example " I will be staying at ... Can you recommend seafood in the area...or we will be traveling to Girona.. Any suggestions..." We followed some of the food advisor suggestions so this expanded our positive food experience outside the tour proper. This tour exceeeded expectations! Go for it
