“I will always stay at Ibis”
Reviewed 7 November 2013

this is a great hotel in Barcelona near Sagrada Familia. it is basic, but really exceeds your needs. the staff is remarkable for they all go above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable, and enjoyable as possible. the rooms are clean and quiet, and the price is right. i wouldn't hesitate to stay again, or at any Ibis hotel for that matter.

Very good quality, pleasant and helpful reception staff. Modern tourist hotel with comfortable beds located near Sagrada Familia and in striking distance of the City centre. Breakfast was a tad hectic when school party arrived and it can be very busy if you don't get to breakfast early eg 8-8.30 am.

Room Tip: avoid room next to the lift

Enjoyed our stay in Barcelona, this Ibis is a great location near the Sagrada Familia. Also very basic it suited our needs and was good value. We had no problem with check in, enjoyed the buffet breakfast and would stay again.

We made a mistake by choosing the hotel because of its proximity to Sagrada Familia – we only visited the attraction once so it was not necessary to stay near it. The room was disappointing as it was small and the window was facing the corridor of the hotel. Not only did we not get a view of the streets, we had to keep the curtains closed. On the day before check-out, we asked the reception if we could stay a bit longer as our flight was in the late afternoon. He told us that the hotel was fully booked but we were could stay until 1pm. He noted it in our records. We were very appreciative of his help. However, the day of check-out, at exactly 12 pm, the reception called and asked if we were planning to extend our stay by another night. She acknowledged and hanged up after I told her that her colleague had agreed to let us stay an hour longer. At a quarter to 1, the housekeeping lady knocked at our door and wanted to come in to clean the room. We felt that we were being chased out.

We wanted to make our hotel payment in cash but the staff told us she had no cash hence no change for us and there was nothing she could do. We found it unbelievable for a hotel not to have a few hundred euros. We had no choice but to charge it to our credit card. Upon receiving our credit card bill, we found that there was an additional 100euros charge to our card. It was returned to us but we lost a few cents due to currency rate conversion. Although the few cents may not be a big deal, we could not figure out what the 100euros was for. If it was for the room deposit, we were not being informed. Even so, it is unusual because hotels usually just 'hold' the deposit amount without making a 'real' charge.

Unpleasant experience. Thankfully, at least the bed and blanket was clean and comfortable.

My husband and I stayed here for three nights. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This hotel is very clean and comfortable. Our room was clean and bed very comfortable. The free wi-fi was brilliant. I could use my tablet in my room at any time. Breakfast was ok in that it was a buffet breakfast with all cold foods. There were two toasters so making toast was no problem. Usual cold foods, cheese, ham, etc. I only say this because I do like to have my egg and bacon. We did not pre book tickets for the Sagrada Familia. As the hotel is less than five minutes walk, we arrived at the Sagrada just before 8.30am. There was only a small queue. As it opened at 9am the ticket holders went in first and we went in about 9.10am. So GO EARLY as the queues later in the day are LONG. It is well worth a visit inside and it is truly an iconic building. We also found a Bar just two minutes from the hotel. As you come out of the hotel, turn right and then right again into C/Mallorca and walk towards the Sagrada, the bar is on the left corner of Place de la Sagrada Familia. It is called Cerveceria Super BCN. You cant sit outside to eat but it is worth going inside. We ate there two nights as the food was very good. There is a daily offer menu where you can choose a main meal, drink and also a coffee for 7.50 euros. The food was presented beautifully and also a large helping. I had a pork chop, chips and salad. The next night I had a seafood paella. It was delicious!!! My husband had fish, chips and salad then when I had the paella he had the pork. We do recommend this bar for value and service.
