If you want a central location for a long weekend, on the metro network and walking distance of all of the key sites, then it is in a great place, and no doubt why it was booked.
A great welcome on checkin , very friendly, and good first impressions of the public areas. The issue though is the layout and design of the rooms in what is a relatively expensive hotel ( we paid 140 euros a night , prepaid rate via booking.com, room only).
A classic case of design over content- I always feel the room designers should be made to live in the rooms they have designed as a punishment, when will hoteliers learn to ask regular travellers to design rooms ?).
Its not that I have anything against stark white rooms, I may not like the feeling that I am in a fridge, but it doesn't put me off.completely.
What does is the trend to have a glass walled shower room ( no bath note !) , with the sink and vanity unit in the main bedroom.
Listen to the words carefully-bathroom and bedroom ! A clue there, they should be separate rooms ! what is worst is when it is built badly so the doors don't close properly- giving no privacy , and an uncomfortable feeling when sharing the room and using the toilet !
Add to this a very small room ( OK , its an old building , but its charging new prices !), and the usual requirement for a masters in electrical engineering to use the light control panel ( on/off used to work simply !), and you begin to regret leaving someone else to book the room for you.
The hotel managed to change us to a larger room on the 2nd day, however they failed to listen to the comments made and simply put us in an other room with the same sized bathroom and uncomfortable lack of privacy. In fact , according to the front desk this was a Superior Room , although I would struggle to see if had any added value over the Dble they shifted us from.
Breakfast was OK , but just OK, we went out after the first morning and found better fare locally, small gym on the rooftop not worth visiting , tiny plunge pool - won't return , shame!
