“Clean but beware certain rooms”
Reviewed 24 September 2013

This hotel is quite new and is clean and tidy, as you would expect for it's age.

The reception staff were helpful and all spoke English to differing degrees, although I'm lucky in that my partner speaks Spanish :)

We arrived very early for check in (our check in was 2pm but we arrived from our flight at 10am). The room wasn't ready and they said it might be done by 1.30. We came back at 1.30, asked at 1.50 and the room wasn't ready. Dead on 2 it was ready. I'm not sure somebody was in our room cleaning til 1.59, but it's a minor gripe as check in is at 2 after all.

The rooftop pool is a great bonus and offers a nice place to relax. Don't expect to do lengths though, it's just for dipping in and cooling off. The downside of the rooftop pool.....

....from roof to floor there is a 'tunnel', for want of a better word. A space in the middle of the building to provide light to the inner rooms of the hotel. So some rooms look out into this gap, into other windows a few metres opposite. The problem is this: the rooftop pool is supposed to shut at 8pm. Every night of our stay ranging from anywhere between 9pm and 3am, there were groups of people on the roof shouting, singing, drinking and using the jacuzzi. All of the noise from these carries straight down that tunnel. We were 4 floors below and it was anger inducing.

The pillow was one of the ones that mould to your head, which I love, so that helped get some sleep.

The room was cleaned every day and new towels supplied.
We didn't have the breakfast in the hotel as it was around 15Euros per head.

The location was fine for us as we don't mind walking but it's about 15 minutes away from the top of la Rambla, 20 mins from la Sagrada Familia and perhaps an hour from Parc Guell.

There are plenty of bars, restaurants and cafes near the hotel so you never need to go far if you get thirsty or hungry.

On check out we were charged 2Euros a day for 'city tax', so make sure you have a few coins left at the end of your stay!

New-brand hotel. Location is good, a lot of restaurants around. Placa Catalunia is 15 mins walking. Price for the hotel is worth and cheap. Staff is friendly. 25 mins by taxi to the airport. And the best thing is - its 2 organic supermarkets by the hotel! Awesome!

The hotel location is excellent and you could walk easily throughout the center. It is a brand new hotel so everything looks good but the quality of the endings in the construction are not really good, so I guess it is a question of time that they will get deteriorated.
Our room was in the 6th floor at the end of the corridor (607) and as it was in the opposite side of the main street it was really quite, however the noise of the other guests in the corridor sometimes was little bit annoying.
The summing pool was really good although we did not have the opportunity to enjoy it.
The reception staff and the cleaning staff were really friendly. However in two occasions they got into the room when we were inside even after the cleaned the room. We commented with the receptionist but they just apologized.
Definitely I will be back to the hotel.

Room Tip: I guess the rooms face to the main strett could be really noisy, but I did not try them.

This is an outstanding place to stay! The staff are what make it truly special, they go above and beyond the call of duty to help you in any way possible, and always do it in a friendly and professional manner, never making you feel like a burden for your plethora of basic tourist questions. Our room was spotlessly clean and well sized, minibar prices were very reasonable for Spain, and despite there been building going on downstairs of the new bathrooms by reception it caused no disruption besides the odd muffled sound in the reception. Location is great, very nice and safe area with cute cafes nearby and the metro is only a 7 minute walk away and the staff are more than happy to provide maps to help you find it. I am so grateful to the staff for being so accommodating, I would happily recommend this place to anyone. My one tip for something to change would be the duvets, if you could call them that, in the twin rooms. The thin duvet is great for warm Spain but the fabric is far from cosy and comfortable, it's almost stiff and has no softness to it at all. Even this could not put a real damper on our great experience at this hotel however!

We stayed at the Sunotel for 2 nights before our cruise. The hotel is new, clean and centrally located. The only issues we've had are that our room smelled of smoke (for a non-smoking hotel with ashtray in room) which they wanted to spray air freshener in but declined as that's worse, and our TV doesn't work. There were no other double beds available and we aren't here to watch TV or spend time in room so turned up A/C to help air out & don't miss the TV. The room is adequate for our use, the bathroom is spacious & the staff extremely helpful. To get here take A1 or A2 bus from whichever airport terminal (T1 or T2) you are at and get off at 3rd stop (Universitat), they don't announce the stops so don't miss it or its a long walk back (which we did). The hotel offers bikes for free use & highly recommend! We toured most of the city in one day, was also great exercise! Lots of great cafe's & dining within walking distance as are the Gaudi houses. Never saw the pool so can't comment on that.

Room Tip: Request outside room if want fresh air but will be noisier, we had inside & was quiet.

A beautifully clean and well presented hotel with well-equipped rooms and amazingly friendly staff.

On arrival the receptionist issued me with a free map and went to great lengths to mark out the sights and travel options.

My room was a good size with a clean and well-equipped bathroom. Minibar prices were very reasonable too.

The roof terrace is a great spot to socialise and take a dip/catch some sun. Towels always provided as are comfortable sun loungers.

Breakfast is outstanding! I cannot compliment them enough on their breakfast. Wow, wow, wow! A real highlight of my stay.

On my final night there was a leak in my bathroom; within moments they sent someone to investigate it, organised me a new room and had someone move my luggage and on arrival in my new room had left a bottle of cava with a note of apology.

I cannot rate this hotel enough and will definitely be returning and recommending to others.
