“Excellent hotel accommodations”
Reviewed 25 September 2013

Beautiful apartment suite with full comfort for the entire family. The suite has a fridge, ice, full bar, full kitchen. The staff was very nice and friendly and most obliging to your needs. Walking distance to major streets, Gothic Center, hop-on hop-off stop, and American landmarks Burger Kings and Starbucks. The hotel name sign is easy to miss, just make sure you look for a big tall door with a concierge staff inside who will buzz you in, so it is quite secured. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: The 2 bedroom suite we had was very nice. Nothing to complain.

My wife and I just checked out of the Mercer Boria after a 2 night stay and wish we could have stayed longer. The hotel is close
To the train station and only a 10 minute walk thru excellent shipping to city center. It was easy to venture out from here to do anything in Barcelona.
We were upgraded for free to the loft suite at the mercer and really enjoyed the room. It had excellent views of the barri gotic and was extremely spacious. The room was more like a small apartment with a full kitchen and great bathroom. The staff was extremely friendly and very helpful with booking tours and making reservations for us. The hotel is just steps away from Arcano which is a great restraint and only 5 minute walk from Tlaxcal which is the best Mexican food in Barcelona. The hotel might be a little hard for cabs to find since its on a small street, but that should not be a deterrent as the location is excellent. Will definitely recommend this hotel to all friends visiting Barcelona

This hotel had a beautiful, huge loft room for my family of four, the room was very nice, and the people who work here are lovely, especially the woman who makes breakfast. Unfortunately, during our stay the power in our room went out from 9 pm till the next am. At night there was one a guard, who knew nothing about how to fix this. Frustrating as the ac was out as was the lights in the bathroom. An issue for middle aged men who make the nighttime walk to the facilities often.

The other problem was the noise. We stayed Saturday night, and we could hear every celebration in what seemed like the whole city, my kids slept through it, but it did keep me,awake.

If they can solve these two issues. It would be a fantastic hotel.

Room Tip: The lofts are huge

This hotel was quite difficult to find when we arrived in Barcelona at night. Its down an alley (which looks a bit on the rough side at night) and there is no obvious sign of this hotel. Taxi drivers also aren't fully aware of this hotel either.

However, once we got there, it was an amazing room (we stayed in the loft) which had almost all facilities except laundry. There was even a kitchen! The room was nice and clean, though wifi internet only worked on one side of the room.

The location turned out to be extremely convenient, with a central metro station just outside. It is also a very short walk to La Rumbla. People complained about noise in the other reviews, but I never had any issues with this. Breakfast was nice, and there was a dedicated chef who would cook eggs for you.

I would definitely recommend Boria, though given I was staying in the loft, I'm not sure what the basic "Superior Room" is like.

Boria may be part of the Mercer group, but don't expect the same experience as in NY.

The good's: location of the hotel, room size, friendly staff

The bad's: Noisy, rooms have only single glazing and noise traveled almost unfiltered into the room. This may be better in other rooms in the hotel, but mine was like being on the street, not good when there are mopeds racing until 3am under your window and shops/bars/restaurants are being opened and shut until 3am and opened at 7.30, unless you are not interested in sleeping at all. Bed size: my bed was about 180 long, which may be suitable for children or midgets, but not if you are over 180cm/ 6feet tall. Pillows: banana shaped and totally useless for any kind of support, the only possible use may be as a baby feeding pillow. WiFi: most of the time non-existent, and if working, at speeds of a modem from 1996. Hair (not mine) in shower.

Personally I can't recommend the Boria, I had the worst night sleep ever at a hotel anywhere in the world, others may not care about sleep so much, but for me this one of the basics. Alternatively may choose the beach and a locker at the Franca train station next time. Definitely not worth spending almost €200 a night.

After I made my comments, I was offered a free breakfast for my next stay - almost comical.

Room Tip: There are better hotels in the area.

Hotel Boria is run by the Mercer group and should not be confused with the 5 star Mercer Hotel.
Boria is in the Born district and pretty much near everything. Barber shop, a hip cafe called Cat Vegano, food stories, endless restaurants. It is a few minutes from Jaume metro and the old city.
The location is great. A walk to the beach is around 15 minutes.
On weekends, it does get noisy on weekends, but hotels in inner cities in Barcelona are like that. Always travel with noise cancelling headphones and ear plugs. I only needed them on friday and saturday night.
I had a junior suite - just beautiful. Great place to work and great place to sleep. The Kitchenette is perfect. The design of the rooms is lovely.
The views are nothing special, dont really recommend them, but there is sun light and three windows.
Staff are really nice and helpful.
Rooms are really well cleaned. And dishes even washed. How good is that!
Wifi is ok, not perfect but good enough. If you have more than one device, then some issues.
All in all, I would recommend it. If you have want quiet then KK Picasso is quieter as it is next to the Gardens. Hilton is great but far from the inner city.
For location, Hotel Boria is great.
I would stay here again. More central is Hotel Colon and if you have a budget, go for the Mercer Hotel.

Room Tip: High Floor - a must! If over the weekend, ear plugs a must.

We selected the Boria BCN for it's location, size of accommodations, and reviews. We had a two bedroom suite. One bedroom had a door and was private, the other was not and was basically in the living area. Not a huge deal, but would have preferred more privacy. The lighting was not very good and because we faced the street and other windows, leaving all the windows open was not a comfortable option. Our desk lamp did not work. We asked it they could fix it or replace it and nothing happened. One of the rooms had water leaking down the wall from the A/C and mold forming. This was obviously an on-going problem. Again, it was never fixed. While the desk clerks were very nice and helpful, we got the feeling that management just didn't care. The solution to the A/C was for us to turn it off. We were there in August. Need-less-to-say, if we visit the great city of Barcelona again, I don't think we will stay at the Boria BCN.
