Stayed at this lovely hotel for 4 nights and I have no complaints. I chose the Olivia because it is so convenient, all the tour buses, airport buses and metro stations are right outside and El Corte Ingles department store is only 100 metres away! Around the corner is Las Ramblas and all the hustle and bustle of this essential part of Barcelona. Inside the hotel it is very comfortable with an excellent breakfast and the lunch and dinner menu also looks good but with so much to choose nearby we did eat in other restaurants. We had rooms on the 2nd floor, which faced Placa Catalunya, which I would recommend as I think some rooms only have a window onto the interior courtyard. The rooms are very modern, the beds are huge, confortable, with fresh white sheets every day. There are unusual sliding doors to the shower cubicle and toilet and the wardrobe and shelves are open to the room (no doors) none of this was a problem for us and just made it more interesting. The hotel staff were always friendly and helpful and all in all the hotel really made our few days in BCN extra special.

Room Tip: Don't worry about the noise from Placa Catalunya if you have a facing room, the glazing is very...

You can't beat the location of this hotel. It is right in Plaza Cataluna near Las Ramblas, restaurants, tourists buses, shopping, etc. I am a female and travelled alone. I felt safe the entire time. Rooms are well appointed, clean, modern and comfortable. Get a Plaza view if you can. The rooms have large floor to ceiling windows and it was wonderful to eat breakfast while watching the world outside.

I booked a suite for 5 nights (TIP: cheapest deal for a suite was advanced purchase through the hotel website, not any of the online booking sites), and we had a very comfortable area of 4 rooms with a full-height window overlooking the Plaza de Catalunya from the 5th floor.
Apart from the bathroom, which was very smart, the room furnishings were a little dowdy, but that did not detract in any way.

Our main complaint about the hotel was unhelpful staff - generally unwelcoming and not terribly keen (or able) to provide information. We struck a taxi driver one day who had more information brochures in his cab (which he happily handed out) and was a better source of information about the city that the hotel was. Unlike the hotel he was a great ambassador for his wonderful city.

As mentioned by others the breakfast price is a bit high, and morning foraging at the nearby market (Boqueria) or in the area around Plaza de Pi is very rewarding.

While on the topic of food, the other thing that struck us in Barcelona was the number of unfriendly waiters - female waiters were generally OK, but males often grumpy and aloof. One was so rude to us we summoned the manager to complain, who said, basically, "yes, he is like that". It is a worry when a city's tourism workforce takes the tourists for granted as they did in our hotel and at more than one restaurant. Lovely though Barcelona is, perhaps it's time is over.

Room Tip: Generally speaking, at good hotels, the longer you stay the better the room you get.

Nothing bad to say about this hotel.
While I had a leak in the room when i arrived they were prompt to move me to a different room and solved the situation very quickly.

Breakfast is a bit expensive so considering the location you can just pop next door and have a nice breakfast in any cafe on the Ramblas.

The room was very nice, the location was excellent, the pateo was gorgeous, the food and drinks were fabulous. Very happy to have stayed there.

Chose this hotel because of its location. Did not take the breakfast because We planned on being up and out early. However we wound up being out late (Catalonians eat LATE!) and waking up at 9. Hotel staff is well trained, rooms are very modern and the location is fantastic. The metro and buses are right outside - we took the metro mostly but the bus is good too - traffic is not bad. You don't really need a tour - just wiki all the sights and you will have plenty of information. You can even take the metro to Montserrat. We loved Barcelona - my new favorite city - whole areas are pedestrian only, Gaudi is amazing, the city is sparkling clean (unlike Rome where I am now) the restaurants are full of energy and the Segreda Familia almost made me rethink my lapsed Catholic status. The hotel staff helped me with directions, called me when I set a wake up call and met every need. What more can you ask?

Clean, ultra modern hotel facing the Plaza de Catalunya. The perfect central location to La Rambla Street; the street where everything happens in Barcelona. We reserved 2 rooms for our party. 3 in a suite and 2 in a balcony superior room. When we arrived we received an upgrade to another suite.

As an ultra modern hotel, there is no swimming pool or fitness area. A little disappointing as we were with our family and wanted to swim at night. Many of the other hotels nearby and throughout the popular districts have rooftop pools.

The most weird part of the room was the lighting and switches. The lighting was 99.9% halogen with one fluorescent table lamp. As with previous reviewer comments, the light switch either turned the halogens on full or off. Nothing in-between. Also, some rooms had a separate light switch but it was wired incorrectly and turned on other rooms. After playing with the switches a couple of times, they would get overheated and stop working. You would have to take out the central room key from the electrical slot and replace it to reset the switches.

Since there were no night lights and it was completely dark at night, we used the fluorescent lamp in the bathroom as a night light.

Housekeeping was very attentive and fast. We called to have the pull-out bed made up since it wasn't done when we returned after dinner. Literally within seconds there was a knock on the door.

The only other recommendation is to either bring ear plugs if you want a direct view of the plaza. At night it is quite loud with activities going on after midnight. We were also there during a local holiday, so there were also fireworks going on as well. There is a motorized shade to block out the sun into the room. The button is on both sides of the bed. That was pretty cool.

Take the double decker bus for a tour of Barcelona. It runs all day and night and you can pick it up from the plaza. There are 3 different bus lines all for the one price, and you can get on and off as many times as you want during the day. Well worth the price.

We didn't eat at the restaurant, and read from previous posts that the breakfast was expensive. We ate on La Rambla which happened to be just as expensive. Look for restaurants that offer buffets for breakfast. It's much more affordable than ordering off the menu...It's pretty much ala-carte dining in European cities.

Dining Tip: In Barcelona they charge for water (bottled only - no pitcher or free refills), coffee is per cup, and each piece of bread at the table. Even if they serve the bread, if you eat it, you pay. If you don't eat it, you don't pay. Very strange from U.S. customs. We were a table of 5, we each ate 2 pieces of bread and were charged 21 euros ($32.00 US) just for bread...the charge for water was another 12 euros...OUCH!

And finally, don't take a taxi to and from the airport if you are staying at this hotel, or one on the plaza. There are special buses, that accommodate luggage, which run from the plaza to both terminals of the airport. You can't beat 6 eruos each way and it runs from 6:30am to late at night. Total trip time was 20 - 25 minutes.

Room Tip: If you want a view of the Plaza, you must be a heavy sleeper or bring your ear plugs...The view is a...

If you like modern, clean, stylish hotels, you might be tempted to stay at this hotel. Don't. Anyone with a passion for chic hotels which are value for money will be disappointed by aspects of this hotel. The rooms are great - modern, very spacious and clean. But the location of the room is important. Ask for a high floor. Our room was on level 1 overlooking Plaza Catalunya and the double-glazed glass wasn't enough to keep Barcelona's busiest square outside. There is also a goldfish bowl factor (ie, people could see in at night unless you sacrificed your view and closed the blind completely). The staff were a tad icy and some pretty basic polite requests for items which formed part of our package were met with indifference. Breakfast really wasn't worth the money - although the atrium restaurant area is very picturesque. If location is your priority, then it doesn't get more central than this hotel, but overall, in a City of fabulous hotel choices, there are definitely better options for the money.

Room Tip: Request a high floor - and if noise is an issue, ask for a room facing away from the Plaza.
