“Wonderful Staff; Wonderful Choice!”
Reviewed 19 July 2012

You will not be disappointed here! The staff was so so nice and attended with patience to our every need, from plugging my blackberry into their computer to charge it (my charger was in my luggage lost by the airline) to booking flamenco show tickets for us. They also speak good English (and tolerated my attempts at Spanish). The location was perfect for us: in the middle of all the action and across the Catalunya Plaza from Las Ramblas, the beautiful tree-lined median parkway. The staff helped me figure out how to get the metro to the train to the beach town of Sitges. The room was nice, comfortable and clean. The air conditioning worked! Blissful! The room is fairly small and dark. The shower is heavenly! Though the hotel is basically very clean, we had two cleanliness issues discovered in our room and the staff handled them quickly. European hotels are often not as nice as US hotels with the same "star" ratings. I find the Comfort Inn and Hampton Inn type hotels in the US nicer than most of the "four and five star luxury hotels" in Europe. But as long as you have realistic expectations, you will surely be pleased by this very nice hotel... especially the staff!!!

Room Tip: Our room near the elevator was super noisy with a "clicking" every three or four seconds a...

We stayed for one night following our cruise. We arrived early not expectiong our room to be ready. They checked us in,stored our bags and told us the room would be ready about 3PM. We went off in search of the Barcelona Turistic Bus which is just down and across the street from the hotel on the Placa. We had a wonderful overview of the entire city from the bus and returned to the Olivia Plaza just after 4 PM. We were told that our room was still not ready because they were installing a new TV. We went to the beautiful bar and had a glass of wine while we waited for our room. The bell man took us to our room but then was told that we could not check in to the room until the TV was installed. The TV was never installed, no explanation and we were allowed back into the room about 30 minutes later. That little adventure aside, we loved the room and the hotel.

Our room overllooked the restaurant patio and the old church behind the hotel. It was very picturesque. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was very unique. LOVED the shower. The TV was very small. I hope they really did change it our for a much larger TV for the next guest. Beds were comfortable. In room safe was nice to have .

The breakfast was one of the best I have ever seen and included champagne! There was something for everyone. They even had egg rolls!. The saff was incredibly helpful and I would recommend the breakfast to anyone. The restaurant and bar were excellent. We asked about a place for dinner; we wanted paella, and were directed to the Port Olympic and La Barca del Salamanca. We had a fabulous seafood paella, sangria and a wonderful everning at the Port. It was just what we were looking for.

Our plane did not leave until after nine in the eveining so, we stored our bags and took off again on the bus to hit more of the sights. We returned to the hotel, picked up our bags, and went across the street to the airport bus...it could not have been easier! I would definitely stay here again. It is very easy to take the airport bus and it drops you just across the street from the hotel. It was also easy to get a cab to the hotel is next door to the Hard Rock Cafe and all the cabs knew where that was .

Dear onegoodeye,

Thank you so much for sharing your short, but intense, stay at the Olivia Plaza hotel and Barcelona. It's great for us to know that you enjoyed our breakfast, as it's something we want to be perfect for our guests. Reviews like yours will help us to keep our efforts to improve our service.

I would like to apologize for the time you had to wait for the room to be ready. As you say in the review, we have changed the TV of our rooms, and we are almost done, but we should have been faster in having the room ready. I will take note so it wont happen again. Anyway, I'm happy to tell you that the new TV are much more bigger than the old ones!

I hope you can come back soon to Barcelona, and if it's possible, to stay a little longer so you can enjoy of our great city! Of course, we would love to have you back at our hotel.

Kind regards,

Raimon Senpau

We stayed at Hotel Olivia Plaza in May of 2012. This hotel is in a great location. Close to the Ramblas and within walking distance of many of Barcelona's main attractions. The hotel is very modern. Clean, comfortable, quiet. The staff was VERY friendly and helpful. The young man at the desk was extremely helpful in finding us a room early. He also provided us with restaurant recommendations and general safety precautions for the Barcelona streets. We found the waitresses in the lounge to be extremely pleasant and efficient. Really...a great staff in general. We would definitely stay at this hotel again and would recommend it to anyone wanting to explore Barcelona.

First class hotel, great location, great staff, fantastic room. We could not be happier with this hotel and will definitely book again when we are in Barcelona. The staff is attentive, friendly, speaks English, and puts up with my poor attempts at speaking Spanish. Five stars from this reviewer.

The man of Barcelona, Robert Sancho, manager of the hotel is the person to know in Barcelona. We stayed there the middle of May 2012, for three nights and through a series of e-mails with Robert, in reserving our room, we arrived and were given a front room overlooking Cataluyna Plaza. The hotel is situated directly on the Plaza. The location is superb, Las Ramblas around one corner, pedestrian only shopping around the other corner, restaurants within easy walking distance. The Hotel is really very good. Our room was over the top for location, space, comfort, and sleep quality. The room was so large that upon entering the foyer, a turn to the left were two large, floor to ceiling glass doors which opened into a sitting room , with TV, closets, chairs, sofa, continuing on through yet another floor to ceiling glass doors, was the very large bedroom, TV, chairs, tables, and a very large picture window over looking Cataluyna Square. Turning right from the foyer, two more floor to ceiling glass doors into a very large bathroom, separate shower, separate water closet, two sinks, and a bathtub. The breakfasts were something to behold, enough food and selection to knock your socks off. The breakfast staff was friendly, personable, an truly very enjoyable. The reception personnel were helpful, friendly and extremely nice. There is use of internet on the second floor. A restaurant is in the hotel, but we did not eat there. A very comfortable area in the lobby to have cocktails, while waiting for anything. If ever in Barcelona again, we will be staying at the Olivia Plaza Hotel.
THANK YOU ROBERT SANCHO

Room Tip: We only looked at our room, but I would not think any of the rooms are not good.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is ultra sheek and modern and located in the best part of town. We had a room with an overview of the main plaza - highly recommended - floor to ceiling windows, you can see the busy on the streets, the main water fountain, the shops, and people.

The beds were comfortable. Rooms were a nice decent size. The restaurant had a little bar downstairs, but honestly, I would skip that and walk out onto the streets.

The best part about this hotel is that it is so centrally located that if you want to get a selection of restaurants, they are at your door. If you want to shop, it's all there again at your door. I think I counted 3 Zara's in the space of 3 blocks from the hotel. The airport bus is literally across the road, so is the tour bus that is worth taking for a 2 day tour (we did one day and it just was not enough - too much to see). At night the street markets set up outside the hotel also. We had a blast bargaining for stuff.

During the day the plaza is covered with pigeons so people and children just hang around and feed the birds (or the kids chase the birds).

Its only a short walk to the Gothic quarter, the beach is about a 10 min walk - lots of sand art - watch the pick-pockets though.
