“Really good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 October 2013

As many have said before, it would be difficult to get a hotel in Barcelona in a better position. It sits yards from the gothic cathedral and there's lots of atmosphere around the area, loads of bars and restaurants and handy access to Placa Catalunya and La Rambla. Staff were really friendly and responded to requests quickly. It's close to being 5 stars in my book but one or two little things stop it getting there. I had to keep asking for coffee refills for the room, breakfast was good but quite small and I had to keep asking for green tea in the morning (they had it but didn't put it out for some reason). That may seem picky but I guess that's the difference between 4 & 5.

A taxi from the airport to the hotel averages around 30 to 45 Euros + luggage. Check-in was quick and easy. Our front desk person was very friendly and accommodating. However, he provided some wrong information when exchanging USD for Euros. He stated to me there was no hotel fee for exchanging currency. In fact there IS a fee although it does not show any where on your receipt. For example, my receipt stated USD $200.00/1.366 euros = 131.72 euros, when if fact it equates to about 151.53 euros. A difference of 19.81 euros. So, in USD at the rate then in effect (1 EUR = $1.32 USD) there was a USD $26.15 hotel service fee. Unfortunately, it is a fact of life in Europe when getting Euros from a hotel or exchange! My subsequent purchases of Euros was by ATM. Overall, the hotel is a good one and the full American breakfast included in our hotel rate was excellent! The room is plain but very comfortable - the bed is one of the most comfortable I have slept in. Our room was on the third floor, 304. It was away from the elevators & high enough to not be bothered by street noise below. I rate this hotel at 4 stars by U.S. Standards.

Room Tip: When booking make sure to request a high floor as you can hear street noise on the lower levels.

Our first visit to Barcelona and couldn't have found a better hotel. Great location opposite cathedral in a small side street. Room very spacious despite some previous reviews and spotless. Slight noise during one night but we were in a city. Rooftop pool looked very inviting however did not get the chance to use it. Small gym with maybe 4 or 5 machines also good for a small city hotel. Looks of lovely restaurants and bars within seconds walk. A must try if you plan a visit to Barcelona.

Room Tip: Opt for a higher room as potentially could be noisy.

We stayed here our last 4 nights of a 3 week tour of Spain and it was great! Located just around the corner from a beautiful cathedral nestled in the Gothic area of Spain, this hotel was an easy starting spot to walk to Las Ramblas, the Picasso museum and transit options.
The bed was one full King as opposed to two singles pushed together and very comfortable!
A rooftop infinity-type pool with patio was a welcome siesta after walking all morning. The water isn't heated much but was pleasant for swimming and clean. We loved the contrast of old roof tops in the distance as we sat on a modern patio.
We have only good things to say!
And there's even a free walking tour Wednesday evenings from the hotel lobby of the Gothic area for guests. We highly recommend this hotel!

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 October 2013 via mobile

Wonderful location, near many attractions. Our room (312) was lovely--beautifully done, sleek and modern, with a very comfortable bed and pillows. The lobby is nicely decorated with comfortable seating. Breakfast was terrific--extensive buffet as well as menu items cooked to order, and the restaurant staff was delightful. The wi-fi in our room did not work, despite several attempts to fix the problem, but we were able to use the computers in the business center without any waiting. The bath/shower floor was extremely slippery and if there hadn't been a grab bar, my slipping would have had very unfortunate results.

However, our main problem was that at 11:30 p.m. while we were asleep on the second night of our stay, the door to our room was opened by someone with a key card. (There is no inside lock to prevent anyone from entering the room while you are there.) We were awakened by the sound of the door opening, and called out in alarm, at which point the person, dressed in hotel maintenance clothing, quietly backed out of the room, closed the door, and left. My husband followed him out into the hall and went down to the lobby, where he was told that the man was "checking out the room to make sure it was ready for the next day's check-in", but "made a mistake" and went to room 312 instead of 212. This was entirely absurd--why would anyone do this at 11:30 at night when check-in isn't until 2 p.m.? It left us feeling distinctly unsafe and vulnerable. The manager profusely apologized the next day and sent us a fruit bowl and discounted our lunch, but those offerings did nothing to ease our concerns for our safety when in the room at night. Despite the loveliness of the hotel and the wonderful time we had in Barcelona, we were not sorry to leave the hotel.

As a result, I don't even know how to assign a rating to this hotel. It would get four or even five circles for ambiance, style, comfort, appearance, and location, but the problem with inability to securely lock the door from the inside is obviously a big drawback. That issue alone makes me want to down rate it significantly, but since it really is a lovely hotel, I couldn't give it less than a three.

Dear Guest,
We would like to thank you for your comments.

We also would like to apologie again and would like to clarify as we talk the in our meeting before your departure what happened with this matter.

The person that opened your door by mistake, was our Securtity guard.
He was helping with the luggage to a new guest, and was welcoming check in to his room 212, but as a unfortunate mistake the went to room 312 ( your room), as we always do, he knocked before going in, ( we always do it this way, even if the room it's empty ) and opened the door directly, and when he opened he saw that the room was ocupied and he did close it directly, and then awake you by this fatal error.

We really apologie again on this matter and as your suggestion we did offer you what you requested as a compensation in order to please you and try to solve the incident.

We hope you give us the opportunity of welcoming you back again in our hotel.
Best regards
Alex Vilallonga

The hotel is located opposite the Cathedral in Barcelona. Location is perfect for walking around and enjoying the surroundings. It is perfectly located to see the historic and jewish quarters. Shopping and good dining are a stones throw away. You could walk to La Ramblas, and the main suqaures such as Plaza Catalunya, Plaza Real, are all within short walking distance.

Staff were helpful. They helped us find a good place to eat, and with directions when we first arrived as we were new to the area.

We booked an executive room and were given a room on the first floor. The room size was ok, not too big or small. It was clean and had all the basic amenities. We didn't spend much time in the room but it was evident that noises from the street could be heard in the room.

We loved staying here. The location is ideal -- plenty of great places to walk to -- and the staff is very nice and helpful. The rooms were very comfortable and the breakfast was great. The entire experience was A-plus. This was our first trip to Barcelona and we're glad we stayed here. We'll be back!
