“Great location is its only attractive”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 September 2013

Lack of staff, not friendly nor profesional, dirty rooms (carpet and other room furniture should have been changed several years ago, they are dirty and old), rests of previous guests in the room (stains in curtains, hair in the bathroom). It must have been a 4 stars when it started but now it is completely abandoned, I would not give it even 3. The only positive thing I can say is that the location is really good.

I have to say that the average hotel quality in Barcelona is very very low and finding a good value for money place can be a challenge.
Petit palace is no exception to this.
Positive things are its superb location, very central and at walking distance to a lot of main attractions. In the room you can find the necessaire for your staying (like toothbrush, slippers, sawing kit), which is something that I definitely appreciate.
But that´s it, because rooms themselves are kind of shabby and bad smelling, and breakfast is poor.
I would not recommend it.

Lets start with the good. The hotel has a great central location and offers family rooms making travel with a family much easier and provided a reasonable breakfast in the room rate. The reception staff were also friendly and helpful.

The bad

Our room was fitted with disabled access in the bathroom which is good, except that shower unit was then positioned above it meaning you would need to be about 7 foot tall to use it properly. For example the shelf for soap was about 6 foot off the ground and built in shower jets started around shoulder height. It was just a bit ill thought out and irritating.

The Ugly

This hotel seriously needs a refit. The carpets were stained, decor out of date and walls looked damp in places.

In summary if you just want a central location at a reasonable price and don't mind staying in a hotel that is not up to 4 star standards and is a bit shabby this is fine, but don't expect luxury...

Room Tip: room 305 looks like it has seen better days and has a shower suitable for giants.

The hotel is near to the most attraction places in Barcelona, nice cafes for breakfast too, the room is very well decorated with very nice furniture, we took a quadruple room and it was comfortable with good space, bathroom is very clean.

Stayed at this hotel in May this year. 10 minute walk to La Rambla with shops, restaurants, bars and cafes en route. Enjoyed Barcelona very much and did all the typical touristy things, the open top bus, visit to Camp Nou (one ambition fulfilled!) etc. The hotel was clean, the room was large, clean and modern and the reception staff friendly and helpful. Would visit again.

I would rate this hotel between a high 3.5 and 4 stars. I read some of the not so good reviews after I had booked the hotel and therefore was slightly scared, followed by being pleasantly surprised with my room on the ground floor (the wall had a sign stating 'show rooms') so I'm presuming I got very lucky. We stayed in the hotel for 3 nights, upon arrival our room was not ready so we left our luggage in the hotel storage room which was locked away until our return. The rooms were clean, the bedsheets were changed each day and the room and hotel itself was comfortable and more than enough for me and my fellow travellers as we really only slept overnight and did not make much use of the hotel for any other reasons. The staff were friendly and helpful and our room contained a hotel safe which was locked using a personal credit card which was also an added bonus. I did not encounter any noise problems (as mentioned by other reviewers) but this may have been that school was out (in mid August). The hotel grounds itself and lobby etc although tidy and modern could in my opinion been a little cleaner, hot country air kind of lingers in the dining area and hallways which were very dark. The contintental breakfast was nice. Overall, if you are looking for a 4 star(ish) budget stay hotel - mainly for sleeping - this is the one! The location of the hotel from La Rambla and Central Catalunya is the absolute winning point!

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor (show rooms) are probably your best bet!
