We just got back from a week in Spain and spent it at the Market Hotel. What a fantastic place! Great staff; small, but well appointed rooms with awesome showers. Be careful about getting a room overlooking the street, however, as it can get really noisy...especially between 4:30AM and 6AM when all the trucks are making deliveries to the market.

The restaurant in the hotel is excellent also, but be sure to make reservations, as they fill up quickly. I'd skip the breakfast. For 9 euros, you can get better breakfasts anywhere else. There's a great little place directly across the street with pastries, sandwiches and coffee.

I will definitely stay at this place again!

I booked this hotel after reading the other reviews on tripadvisor. We stayed for two nights with two children who are both under 3 years old.
The hotel service was excellent. Attentive and polite staff who put an extra bed and a cot in our room at no extra cost. Sheets and towels were changed although on one day this wasn't done till 3pm! But this is Spain and is to be expected. The room was on the fourth floor so we did not get much outside noise but the noise leakage between rooms is a problem. You can hear TV's, people talking, doors slamming etc. This is not something that you would expect from a hotel of this caliber - if you need quiet then I would not recommend this hotel, but then again if you want quiet barcelona is the wrong city to be in!
The hotel is well located with the aerobus stopping two blocks away, metro 2 minutes walk and the ramblas about 15 minutes walk. Local restaurants are good as they are full of locals, a great tapas place opposite called Bar Ramon. The hotel restaurant looked good but we didn't get a chance to eat there. The breakfast was nothing special - standard cold meats, cheese, cereal, juices etc but was good value at 9 euros and again they did not charge for the children.
The most awkward thing about this hotel is the process of getting to the room. You have to walk through the restaurant to a lift which barely holds 3 people. This then takes you to the 2nd floor where you have to get out, walk through a corridor to another lift and then that takes you to the fourth. The building is shared by the hotel and an apartment block and the layout is bizarre to say the least! If you don't have any kids or lots of baggage then its quite quirky but we were having to go in separate times to get to the room.
Would I go there again or recommend this to anyone else? Yes definitely to couples or firends going there but not for children. Although the hotel were very accommodating with children (in fact the Spanish are great with kids) the lobby space is cramped and getting to the room is a real concerted effort. But, if you're a couple and want to be close to all the hubbub but far enough out not to be hit with tourist prices then this hotel is great.

Visited Barcelona - which by the way is fantastic, for my wife's birthday. Get the Bus Turistic tickets which cover the whole city 10E a day. Also airport transfers use the buses outside which take you to the city centre for 5E. The hotel is tucked away and taxi drivers don't know it so make sure you have a map or the address on you. It's actually only about 15 minutes walk from the Placa de Catalunya (Bus Red route start) at the top of the Ramblas and 15 minites from the Placa Espayna (Blue Bus route start). Staff at the hotel vary in helpfulness but pretty good. It was cold in our room which was on the first floor when we arrived and the heating was not working. This was room 106 directly above the bar and reception which has a set of automatic doors. These are noisy as is the road from this room so best advice avoid it! Otherwise inside it is quite nice - slightly strange huge picture of Chairman Mau though which my wife thought rather distubing but didn't nother me. all rooms are decorated in red and black - Spanish style and have walkin showers which are really good and nice and hot. We were moved to romm 108 on the other side of the hotel after they couldn't sort the heating out. Actually a better room though slightly smaller and much quiter. Def take earplugs though. This may just be me living in sleepy Devon but I find noisy cities hard to sleep in. There was a slight sewer smell in the bathroom though and this seems a problem in Barcelona generally as you regularly get a real waft of it passing any drains in the road. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel 10E a head but opted to use a cafe opposite where you can get coffee, local pastry, sandwich etc for 2 for about 6E all in. It did look good though. the hotel has it's own large restaurant which was already fully booked on the Saturday, so if arriving on a Sat and you want an easy life book ahead. . We ate there one night and it was good and relatively inexpensive. All in all a great hotel - we only paid 65E per night so very happy. Free apples and bottled water in the lobby. compared to paris hotels this is the Ritz and would def. use again without hesitation.

Since we stepped into this tastefully designed hotel, we liked it. Check-in went fast and in 10 minutes we were in our room. Front desk staff was very helpfull, room was big enough, bed was very comfortable and bathroom was shining. There are 2 metro stops nearby, but we walked nearly all the time to Las Ramblas. When you visit Hotel Market, have a drink in a bar or outside in a lounge. Free wifi, apples, water and hotel bag was nice touch:)

If it weren't for one significant problem, this would be a 5 start review. The probkem in fact is lack of sound insulation in rooms which, particularly for the lower floors where there is no double glazing, can make for a loud morning. We happened to be woken up by building works above our room (the building houses both the hotel and several private apartments) which went on apparently without the knowledge of management. Management , however, was apologetic and quick to find us another room. Having said all that this is an otherwise wonderful hotel, beautifully designed, relaxed, with a great restaurant and bar. Although the food is excellent and presented in a high class manner it is very inexpensive (most expensive wine on the menu was 14 euros!) . The bar and small terrace outside have been recently opened and are a very pleassant place to hang out and spend some time before or after dinner. Rooms are large, with high ceilings and solid wood floors. Bathrooms are superb with powerful, rain showers, good quality toiletries and thick cotton towels. My wife, an architect, noticed that all the details are right from the workmanship of the tiles to the design of the lights and furniture.
Service is very eager even if English is not perfect. Breakfast is excellent with freshly baked pastries as well as frsh chopped tomatoes in olive oil. Wifi is free.
Finally, the best thing about this hotel... the price we paid: 65 euros/night for a double room. Nuff said.

My friend and I only stayed for one night but our experience was great. The room was spacious, modern and beautifully decorated. The location is a little difficult to find since the entrance is through an alley. Hell of a time trying to find that alley. My only complaints are 1) they gave us one bed instead of two and 2) the walls are EXTREMELY thin! Think twice before you consider this a "romantic" stay. We only had a paella from the restaurant and that was with room service so cannot comment on the restaurant itself. But the paella was good if a little too salty. But I found all food in Spain too salty.
