We stayed here for 2 nights and found the room basic but clean. The Hostal is a bit noisy at night with the door bell but not unbearable. Breakfast was basic, just a few cakes but coffee was good. Staff were friendly and spoke excellent english. You have to pay one euro for a change of towels and the rooms were not seviced on sunday. The location was good as the bus from the airport stops nearby and the metro is just accross the street. It is also walking distance to Las Ramblas and the Gothic section.

Situated on Ronda Universitat, close to Universitat metro and 2 mins walk to Placa Catalunya and Las Ramblas. Ring the bell to enter and the Hostal is on the second floor up a lovely staircase or lift. (Don't know whether the lift works though as we only used the stairs). Our room was a small triple with a lovely tiled floor with shower and washbasin, overlooking a small courtyard at the back, so not too noisy. No noise for us either from other guests. We had plenty of bedding too as it was quite cool at night. The bathrooms were along the corridor and the one we used was clean. Breakfast was tea/coffee/ milk with cakes. We only realised at breakfast that tea/coffee had been available all day up until 10pm. Staff were lovely, helpful and friendly, either Spanish or from the UK. Free internet. This hostal has been awarded top 10 in the world according to the posters on the wall - a nice place to stay for a family of 3 for 70 Euros.

I arrived pretty late at night at the hostal and the reception was still open. Although there were just 2 of us, we booked a triple room for 70 Euros a night (basin and shower in the room, shared toilet). Our room had a good size and was clean. BUT: there is one major problem: the doorbell. The hostal is diveded into 2 sections: 1, where the breakfast room is and another one were the reception is. I was in one of the rooms, were the reception was. As the reception is open all night long (which first was an advantage for us) and as they don't give out keys for the main door downstairs, everybody who is coming back late has to ring the door bell which is so loud, that you think it is in your room. Furthermore the walls are very thin and you understand each word of your neighbours. this is due to the fact, that the hostal earlier was a normal apartment and also the doors are very thin and not those of a hotel. I didn't sleep for 3 nights. This might not be a problem for those that come to Barcelona for partying, but for me who was there for some sightseeing it was a problem. Still...for the price we paid I probably can't complain, as housing in Barcelona is quite expensive. I would probably also return there, but only if they guarantee me a room in the part of the breakfast room.

I stayed here in July '07 and it was a great stay. The rooms were clean and gave me an authentic feel of a real spanish room. I didn't want to stay at a regular hostel where I'd have to share my room with other travellers so I booked a private room. The location is excellent and it is just 5 minutes walk from Placa Catalunya which is great if you took the A1 Aerobus to get to Barcelona.

On first arrival, I was greeted by a knowledgeable attendant who was helpful. The hostel was a bit dark so it would help if they got better lighting on the lobby and hallways. Nobody really stayed in the common area so it is hard to meet other travellers. They have a computer with internet.

I stayed in a room away from the traffic so it was quiet in that sense but I am a light sleeper so sleeping with a fan on all night would have kept me awake all night but luckily I brought my own earplugs so that solved the problem. They make your bed every day so it was great to come back to a neatly tucked bed.

Pros: you have your own private room, helpful and friendly staff, clean rooms and bathrooms, they make your bed and clean your room daily, excellent location.

cons: The hostel could have used better lighting, quieter fan. If you have a room next to the street, bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper.

Would I stay here again? yes, it's nice and clean.
