I should point out that I didn't stay at this hotel, so I cannot pass comment on the hotel itself. However I would like to say that the staff were very helpful in moving our booking (eight rooms) to another hotel due to damage caused by previous guests to some of the rooms we had reserved. They moved us to a more expensive hotel in their chain but maintained the same price and even threw in a free breakfast both days for all of us for good measure.

The room 202 had no windows and a horrible smell. I went back to reception and they managed to give us a different room, although it seemed they were more fed up than apologizing for giving an unacceptable room for a price of 172 Euros per night (without breakfast)! The other room was with a 'window' but looking out to the interior of the hotel. No daylight with still an unpleasant humid smell, uncomfortable beds with pillows that give you a nice neck pain in the morning. The room are small with no real cupboards, just open hangers and an airconditioning that you cannot turn off at night. The rooms have no character, plain, dark and oppressing.

The hotel is well situated and the rooms are clean. Other than that I have nothing positive to say.

The location of this hotel is excellent, about halfway between the Ramblas and the Placa de Sant Jaume. Metro (underground) station Jaime I is a short walk from the hotel.

At booking, we asked for separate beds. The room did indeed have two separate beds, so no problems there. Beds were very hard, but after numerous experiences of the same in Spain, I think this is the norm over there. However, the "hardness" of the bed was easily fixed by using some of the pillows as an extra mattress.

Front desk staff was friendly and spoke English quite well.

Our room had an aircon unit, which could actually not be switched off. However, we did not find the a/c noise disturbing, nor was there excessive cold (or heat) coming from the unit.

I found the room quite small for the price paid, and our rate did not include breakfast (which was expensive; however, a supermarket is just across the street so we got something from breakfast there).

However, If the price is right, I would not mind returning here.

The hotel is modern, the staff was friendly and is extremely well located near the Gotic Quarter and very close to the Ramblas (less than 2 minutes walking). Also, the subway is also very close. My room was very nice, it had three beds and it had a little balcony over the street. Breakfast was also very good.

The hotel is near the nightlife of Barcelona so it can be a litle bit noisy. Also, the taxis can´t get there so you will need to drag your luggage to this place a few streets.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window.

Catalonia Avinyo - I booked this hotel over the internet. The room (and ultimately rooms) shown to me were nothing like the room advertised. The rooms I was shown either didnt have a window, or had a window into a very dark central courtyard, and both were tiny and dark. The staff tried to rush me through re this, but ultimately I was sent to a sister hotel (Catalonia Portal de l'Angel, which was fabulous) and so did not stay at the Catlonia Avinyo. It is in the old district in quite a good location, but note that the taxis cant get there so you will need to wheel your luggage to this place. In summary, it looked clean and safe, and the location was quite good, but the rooms were tiny and (effectively) windowless.

we recently had the misfortune to stay at this hotel although we found the hotel staff friendly and the hotel clean in a good position, locals tend to use this hotel and we found are extremely loud and rude and do not consider other guests at this hotel the walls are very thin, although there are security cameras everywhere you have to ask yourself are the staff looking at them at all to let the racket that can go on at this hotel in the corridors especially,i did complain 1 night at 1.30am the next night was worse this was about 3.30-4.30am if you wish to sleep then DO NOT STAY AT THIS HOTEL if you don't mind doors slamming continuosly, shouting etc then it is the place for you we will not stay here ever again we found one around the corner a lot quieter even though it was on la rambla, for around the same price.

Room Tip: ask for the quietest and make sure it doesn't have a connecting door .
