“A great stay in Barcelona!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

I traveled to Barcelona together with my mother. It was a nice stay in Catalonia Avinyo hotel: first of all perfect location, easy to find any place if you have a map. In hotel is working helpful and polite staff. We also enjoyed breakfast, i would not add anything more. Fresh and tasty.
The pool is small and cold, Jacuzzi was not working that good, and it was too hot to stay there anyway, because outside was +30 degrees, but hey-for 3* hotel it is amazing to have a pool on the roof. Actually it was a good contrast to jump from hot jacuzzi to a cold swimming pool.
We did not have windows/balcony in our room, but conditioners are working perfectly, and it was not hot in the room.
Rooms are clean, and i loved the design.
Would recommend people to stay in this hotel for sure.

Thank you, Catalonia Avinyo!

My friend and I were only in Barcelona for one night after touring around northern Spain and chose this hotel exclusively based on its location. Unfortunately when we arrived at the hotel, the front desk informed us that my friend had a room at the hotel but I was going to be moved to a 'nicer hotel' 5 minutes down the road called the Catalonia Port hotel (same owners). A 1 hour discussion then ensued, where the clerk informed us that this is normal procedure and that I would not be getting re-imbursed or any compensation. He showed me his incoming guests page where it showed that about 8 guests would be moved to their other hotels on that morning alone. Luckily I had booked the hotel with a large company (Agoda) that said that they would handle the discussions with the hotel, find me a replacement hotel at their own expense and re-imburse me 150% of what they charged me to book at the Catalonia Avinyo. Upon hearing the conversation the front desk clerk quickly phoned the manager and miraculously found me a room in 2 minutes flat. tisk tisk tisk....... BEWARE!
Hotel Location:- In the middle of the gothic quarter/La Rambla - fantastic location
Hotel Amenitites:- As I was there for only one night, I did not use the hotel facilities and cannot comment. The hotel is obviously very new and it showed. It was very clean.
Hotel Room:- The rooms and bathrooms are extremely small and the bed takes up more that 60% of the room. I guess this is to be expected in such an old part of town where space is limited. I stayed in a room with no windows at all, just 4 walls, leaving the room devoid of natural light, a phenomenon I have never experienced before. Being a new hotel the rooms were clean, contained a desk, minibar and small hanging space. For some reason the hotel was quite noisy with cleaners and guests easily hear moving around the halls.
Hotel Staff:- Apart for the ordeal at checkin the staff seemed courteous and willing to help.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window. Internal rooms with no window or natural light are not fun. Ask for th...

Dear Customer,

Thank you very much for your sincere contribution. Despite the incident at check in you valued the general aspects of the hotel without the influence of this misunderstanding.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused at your arrival, I'm sure that the cause finally decided to not shift your reservation was other and no the possible compensation that (Agoda) commented to you, since there is no clause to offset with 150%.
Thank you again for your kind words.Your opinion is very valuable and we take note of your findings.

Kind regards

The hotel was recommended to us by a friend. The building is very favourably located, it's the very center, the Liceu metro station (Rambla street itself) is 4 minutes walk away. The room was spacious enough, it had a window but there was no view, basically there was a narrow street and a wall with rows of old balconies of another house outside, so we had to keep the curtains closed most of the time to avoid unnecessary exposure. On the other hand, it is an authentic center-of-the-city view which is also nice. Although it was quite noisy each time we opened the window to let in some fresh air, it was noisy even in the middle of the night because there were always groups of people walking out there all night long, talking loudly. But that is always the case when a hotel is located in the pedestrian part of a city with dozens of bars around, and we are fine with that. So a window should better be shut because otherwise the room was very quiet, we didn't hear anyone from the neighbouring rooms. Other than that, everything else was good, breakfast, clean bathroom, staff, wifi, design, and again location - because there was no problem with finding a place to eat or have a drink or to hang out nearby, plethora of choice.

Room Tip: As I understand, some rooms are lobby-view rooms and there won't be a chance to check the actual...

The location of this hotel is perfect, perfectly tucked away from the mad streets around the Ramblas, but just around the corner from Placa Reial, and just minutes from the Liceu metro stop on the Ramblas itself.
Fantastic to have a rooftop pool in the centre of the city - great views & warm Jacuzzi. The staff were excellent - friendly and efficient. I was able to check in at 11.30am, which was great, and paid the extra (€30) for a late checkout, a bit dear, but worth it. Small gym in the basement, free internet & wifi, and bikes to rent from the front lobby.
Rooms are comfortable, but sparse, and a bit dark - was difficult to tell what the weather was like from your room! Not sure if they have any with windows to the street, but worth checking that out. Certainly not rooms to be spending much of your day in, but absolutely perfect for somewhere clean & comfortable to lay your head.
Didn't eat or drink there, breakfast was pricey at €16, and many places very nearby - great bakery right next door, even a Starbucks within 2 mins walk! If you take a right out the front door, less than 50ms away is Carrer de Cervantes, and a bar with a great suntrap terrace - perfect for 30mins to people watch from.
Was decent value for the night I stayed, but it was a Tuesday - depending on price, would definitely stay there away.

We stayed her for one week. The location is great. It's just a couple of blocks from Las Ramblas. The staff is very friendly and efficient. They were always smiling and saying hello. They offered good advice on local stores and restaurants.

Yes, the room was small which is to be expected in Europe. However, the room was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a good size. The bed was comfortable.

When our room was stuffy, we just turned on the air conditioning fan which corrected it. So I'm not too sure about the complaints about stuffiness. We did have a room with a window which I am sure helped too.

The rooftop pool is laughably small at 15feet by 10 feet so don't expect to swim laps, but the hot tub was great and the sunning area was great.

I would definitely recommend this hotel as an affordable option for

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a window.

Dear customers,

Thank you for your contribution. Especially the comment about the air conditioning as it is true that we have read critics about it, but the reality is that it works correctly, perhaps is true that the display to operate is a bit complex.

Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to see you again on future occasions.

Great hotel...fantastic location for visiting the best parts of Barcelona. Staff very friendly and helpful, room was spacious, clean and fully equipped. Bathroom was roomy and had a lovely shower. Only thing would be to request a room with a window...we had one overlooking the centre communal area but noticed others didnt have any windows apart from ones looking into the corridor. Pool was great with fantastic views. Metro a stones throw and next to some great tapas!!!!
