Booked this hotel because of TripAdvisor’s reviews for 3 nights. For sure we didn't get our money's worth. Even being on a budget side this hotel is well below expectations. I definitely will not return there, nor will I ever recommend this hotel to anyone, and here’s why:
We were there in Oct, when it was +10 in the night and +18 during the day. Seemingly nice weather, but unbearable in this hotel. Windows are very old wooden ones, therefore they allow all your room’s heat to go out very quickly, so it was pretty cold in the room during the night, and there were almost no options to stay warm. Our air-condition was a curious piece of machinery: it seemed not to have any thermostat at all – air temperature which it produced depended only on the time of day: it was warmer in the evening (when air was warm itself) and cooler in the morning (exactly when we needed heat) regardless of any settings (modes, temperatures, etc.). Also it was located right above the bed and it was extremely loud, so it was impossible to sleep having it on. On top that, by default, they don’t have comforters on the beds, only sheets. We found a duvet rolled in the credenza, but it was very thin and on the third morning I got a runny nose, because we froze to death there. Also notice that they have sheets and NOT duvet covers, therefore during the night your face will eventually touch the duvet which wasn’t really clean.
Lack of venting system results in some construction smell that permeates everywhere in the room when windows are closed, so beware if you are allergic or something.
Probably we got the cake, but we experienced that I couldn’t believe was ever possible. On the second day we left at around 10:30. When we returned at around 18:00 we discovered that our room WASN’T CLEANED AT ALL! Can you imagine that? We had wet towels on the floor, garbage in the can, etc. When I informed the reception, they were surprised, but told us that room service had been over that day and the best they could offer us was their “sorry” and new towels. Well….they brought new towels, but in the morning we realized that instead of face towels they gave us floor towels. Although they were clean, you know the feeling that you towel off your face with a towel which was lying on floor some days ago is not a pleasant feeling.
Also I’d like to mention that room’s furniture consists of a bed, a small credenza – and that completes the list! There are also 2 hangers on the wall and some funny tiny piece of furniture, which I don’t know how to call in any language. A sink is located in the room, not in the bathroom. There are no shelves near the sink, nor are there any of them in the bathroom, so there's no place where you can put any bottle of supplies.
What was good? Well, Wi-Fi was good and very fast, but there was only one power socket in the room which was located not near the bed, but near the sink! So it was impossible to lie on a bed and to have a laptop charged at the same time. Also because a power socket was just one in all room you have to share it between laptop charger, phone chargers, camera charger, etc. which really bothers.
Another funny thing is breakfast. They offer it in a restaurant which, as they put it: "just 4 blocks away". Just 4 blocks away - it's 5-7 minutes walking. And I don't understand why it has to be so far away, there are plenty of cafes just around the corner.
So, the bottom line is that don’t be stingy as we were. If you go to Barcelona allow more money for your hotel and don’t ruin your city experience with this budget dwelling. If you are really strapped for money – well, Barcelona has a great metro network – try to find something farther from the downtown, but of a higher class.
This hotel is HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED.

Dear Customer,

I very much regret that the expectations of The Praktik have not been to your liking.
The Praktik concept is a basic hotel, clean, modern, and centrally located; the rooms are equipped and suited to a hotel "low cost" in the center of Barcelona.
It is a concept midway between a modern hostel and a contemporary hotel.

Regarding the warm air inside the room, it is important to set properly the thermostat to heat to have warm air and temperature shall be adequate, it doesn’t depend on the hour of the day but the temperature that put’s the customer at the thermostat which is adjustable from 16 ° to 30 ° max.

I regret you had troubles using our machine; probably next time the easiest way is to ask for assistance, so that the receptionists have the chance to clarify how to set the machine without you spending a cold night.
It is not a strange air system, it is a very common device and used in many homes and hotels around the world.
The windows are made of wood because it´s an old modernist building typical of the Eixample area in Barcelona what gives charm and style to the hotel.
We don’t have in our beds comforters but instead we have sheets, bedcovers and provide extra blankets if necessary.

Concerning the room was not cleaned one day, I assume total responsibility and concentrate my efforts for this not to happen again.

I was surprised to read you weren´t satisfy with our breakfast; it is actually very popular and the value for money is objectively worth a try. I can understand you could think is far, but we don´t oblige anybody to go for it.

After reading reviews from other customers, I am even more sorry you didn´t enjoy your stay.

Regards,

Service from the staff in this hotel was great, they were very helpful even down to printing our boarding passes for the return flight free. The room was crisp and fresh with a great view. The location was central. The breakfast included was great value for money, an omlette or ham baguette, a pastry, a freshly squeezed orange juice, a coffee and an actimel. I would definately recommend this hotel.

We stayed here in October 2008. It was extremely reasonably priced, clean, no frills, centrally located. Big comfortable bed, but not much lighting in the room and the sink was outside of the bathroom. We weren't in the room very much, so it totally suited our needs. The front "desk" staff were very helpful.

Strange hotel - things look good on the surface but thats about it. The hotel is cold at night - only sheets are provided - no duvet or even blankets are given. The heating system is rubbish and by 3am will be blowing out cold air! The bathroom has a strange smell about and the walls are very thin so you have the joy of hearing all that your neighbours get up to.

On the plus its a good location and the staff were helpful.

Dear Guest,
We regret that your stay at The Praktik hotel was not what you expected.
Our staff does everything possible to enhance your stay and solve all the problems that may arise.
Regarding your comment about you were cold at night, all our rooms have blankets, if unfortunately you didn´t had one our receptionist would have gladly provided some of them. The air conditioning of the room works correctly but sometimes we have customers with doubts about the operation; it is important to set properly the thermostat to heat to have warm air and temperature shall be adequate; also, due to security and monitoring measures, we have some sensors on the doors and windows so when the client wants to put on the air cond. but the window or door of their room is not well closed, the air conditioning doesn’t turned on.
Concerning your comment about thin walls, unfortunately we can not do much as it is the structure of the hotel.
I´m sorry to hear that the hotel was not to your liking, our staff is always to help our clients when are requested.
Regards,
