I've been returning to this place for 10 years now, and I would definitely recommend it.
It is cheap, and it is in a great position: it's clean and has wifi and a nice breakfast included. At least for me these are the most important things.
I started to use this hotel when El Raval was a quite more dodgy area and still considered the place a great solution: now the surrounding area has greatly improved with nice bars and places to have a drink.
Consider that sometimes, if you have rooms facing the outside of the block, they might be noisy because of the people in the city centre at night.

This is October 4th, I have been traveling since August 29th, staying in hotels from Denmark on down to Spain. This is the worse hotel I have been in and I even stayed in a pension in Prague. The bed was hard and lumpy. I could not work the blinds to cut out the morning light, finally, this morning the receptionist explained how they work, last night the boy at reception did not help me at all. I have NEVER complained about a hotel room before, I did this time and got NO RESULTS. The bathroom fan ran so long i thought it would go all night, it ran from before i went down to reception and was still running when i got back, hideous noise. The reception girl said she could do nothing about the noise. I never complained about the hideous street noise, knowing that was something they could not change. So there have been other complaints for certain, Choose somewhere else in Barcelona to stay so you can enjoy this beautiful city.

Room Tip: }f you decide to stay here ask for an inside room, it will be off the street and quieter, My advice...

Super clean, safe( camera @ front door) with security on the premises...breakfast is included.. Staff friendly, helpful and knowledgable... Bedding fairly comfortable, air conditioning worked well. We had a private bath ... We had no complaints.location within walking of Las Ramblas, , metros, harbor and more.. We would stay again ... And will... Because we plan to come back

We stayed in two rooms for two nights and found the hotel to be in a good location very close to Las Ramblas on a small but busy multi-cultural side street. It is a good location for walking to see this part of Barcelona; it is possible to walk to the beach, although it is about a 30 minute walk. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was clean. The rooms were of modern design, and fairly basic and small. The breakfast was very good given the price of the room and had good variety.
We had a problem with air conditioning and hot water, but the hotel worked professionally and fairly to address our problems. If you are looking for a basic room value in this expensive city, this may be for you.

I stayed at the residence for a long weekend. The room was very basic, but clean and cheap, and in a superb location, only minutes from Las Ramblas. Breakfast is basic but perfectly fine, staff are very friendly and helpful. A great base when you don't want to break the bank but want somewhere comfortable and central to stay.

I stayed 11 nights at the Residencia. The rooms are basic, but very clean and quite cheap. I paid about 60 euros per night. The rooms are serviced daily and have air conditioning. Breakfast is also basic, but since eating late at night is the norm in Barcelona I didn't feel the need for breakfast next morning. The location is convenient to the old city, metro station Licieu as well as buses and taxis on La Rambla. It can be a bit noisy with revellers returning home in the early morning. Also be aware that the area is rife with pickpockets. The residence is very secure with a guard on reception through the night. The outer door is always unlocked but there is a security glass door inside before reception which can only be opened by the guard. I would use this residence again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street if you are a light sleeper.

I stayed at the residence for a week in July with my husband, partly for work and also for a city break. It is really conveniently located, a 10 minute walk from the airport bus drop off at the placa de catalunya. The street is just off the Las Ramblas and 5 minutes from Liceu metro station. By crossing directly over Las Ramlas you enter the Barri Gotic area which is the oldest part of the city and a fantastic place to explore. You can continue down the Ramblas to the Port for some fresh air and sea breeze. All other parts of the city accessible by foot, tourist bus, taxi or metro. We only bothered with the metro once (Cheaper to buy 10 tickets...but only if you use them up!) but it was incredibly hot and humid we preferred to walk (in the shade). The Carrer de l'Hospital is a busy street with lots of tiny shops selling food (and washing machines!) and is very multicultural. Some of the other guests didn't feel very safe walking about at night but we had no problems. The reception desk is manned 24 hours a day with cctv and doors locked at night and operated by the night security. The street is rather smelly in July with the heat but then so is much of the city. The street cleaners were out regularly spraying the streets down. The rooms are basic (its University accommodation) and the beds were hard. TV in the room but not tried. WIFI throughout the building. En suite bathroom was fine, shower door leaked a bit but room cleaned daily. Not much sound proofing from the bathroom above. Air con worked for which we were extremely grateful. Breakfast is plentiful if basic, yoghurt, fresh fruit, eggs, ham, cheese, bread and pastries. During the week there are usually hot egg/bacon dishes available. Downstairs is a communal sitting area with vending machines and access to computers which allow you to print on the printer in reception for 0.10 Euros a sheet. We found the reception staff very helpful and they spoke English when our pigeon Spanish wasn’t doing the trick. The night security staff didn’t speak English but we managed quite effectively with signs and gestures and our dictionary when needed. It’s not top of the range by any stretch of the imagination but central, clean, convenient and reasonably priced.
