I couldn't disagree with the negative review more! Why would you complain about a hotel lacking an amenity they never claimed to have. Did the reviewer really expect the hotel staff to run out and buy him a fridge? I found our room to be absolutely wonderful. We had great pocket doors that led to a wonderful, windowed sitting area. We had a triple room. Granted, our sister had a single room which was a little monastic but still quite nice. The air conditioning was a little sparse for American tastes but serviceable.

The staff was great. They were helpful and friendly and very accommodating. Their English was a lot better than my Spanish. The surrounding area is pricey, but it's easy and convenient to get to many points of interest either on foot or by Metro.

Room Tip: The three person room isn't much more than the single but with a lot more charm.

A great little Hostal with great location, it felt brand new and clean with a lot of white - stylish!
The staff was very friendly and helpful and spoke english well.
Walking distance to tube station, shopping areas and sagrada familia.
I traveled with a friend and unfortunately the bed was a bit smaller than I had hoped for - but then again shame on me for not double checking, think it was a 140 bed. We got a balcony facing the street, was a bit noisy and could not sleep with balcony door open, which again made the room too hot. AC was not working well. But it was mainly in the morning when we had the sun through the window that it got really got ( July)
There is a coffee machine in the common area downstairs where you can get coffee for 1 Euro and many bakerys and coffee shops near by.
Remember this is a Hostel not a hotel so there is no fridge in the room or breakfast in the hotel.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms are nice but a bit noisy with the traffic

The three stars relates to the accommodation itself, in relation to the price paid. If I was rating the attitude of the staff, I would give 2, maybe just one star. As I will explain in the rest of the review, while they may seem courteous when you meet them, some very troubling elements have arisen in their unsolicited emails to me after my stay in the hotel.
First, for the overall three stars regarding the accommodation. I was charged 80 euros a night, for which I expect a certain number of basic things, irrespective of whether the place calls itself a 'hostal', or 'motel', 'hotel' or whatever. The price point is a guide for the average, reasonable customer. Hostal Argo was short on what it offered for this price: no fridge to store a bottle of water or wine, say; no controllable air conditioning (it is centralised, goes off at various hours, so that you are sometimes too hot, sometimes too cold); the bathroom door lock was broken, so there was no privacy in using the bathroom; the bathtub taps were poorly installed (too close to wall, impossible to turn properly) and with no indication of temperature, and the water pressure was too low; also, the WiFi was very bad, and the TV, minuscule and mounted too close to the wall, preventing good access to USB connection for plugging in USB sticks with movies etc. on them. I know a city break is about exploring the city, not spending your life in the hotel, but comfort is also important, especially at this price, and compared to other major European cities (Berlin, Athens, Dublin come to mind) offering a better level of comfort and convenience at similar or lower prices. Furthermore, the hotel is a way's walk from metro stations, in a pricey area of town for food, and I had trouble finding it the first night due to the lack of clear signage on the building.
Now, the really troubling point came when I 'dared' to express these legitimate and moderate misgivings on another travel website; I received an email from Argo claiming that I had no right to criticise them as they 'upgraded me' to a 'superior room' for which I showed 'no gratefulness' (I paraphrase as the language in the email was not native English). Firstly, it was never made clear that I was 'upgraded'' and anyway, I don't care for 'privileges', I just want my money's worth when I pay for something. Secondly, the author of the email claimed that it was extravagant to want a tiny, 30 euro fridge in my room, as if we were in the 1950s and they were still an expensive curiosity. He told me to book 4 or 5 star hotels if I wanted such basic amenities. Very funny indeed if it wasn't very sad, very rude, and demonstrating a total lack of respect for the customers, as well as a certain incapacity to work in the service industry. On a side note, the first night, after asking for suggestions of where to eat, we were directed to a very expensive, mediocre tapas restaurant nearby (I wrote a review of that too).
All in all, a place I cannot recommend, due to a worrying, inappropriate attitude! A pity as with some basic investments in the rooms, it could actually be a nice place, with its high ceilings and large surfaces. But at this stage, it remains more style over substance.

Dear guest,

Thank you for your review.

First of all we want to remark that our staff had never talked rude or with inappropriate words to you.

Before you book a room in any place you should read carefully about the equipment of the hostal and the rooms. In the description on our website and our partners sites is explained perfectly what kind of equipment you can find in our rooms.
The size of our TV are 24 inches so we think is enough. The TV has USB connection. Probably you couldn't use it because the TV was too close to the wall. We never have received any complaint about this issue during your stay and it's a pity because we could have moved the TV.

We want to remind you that you came in high season and the prices logically are a little bit higher in all the city than other seasons.

We also want to remark that you told us that the hostal was receiving commission from tapas bars and restaurants in Barcelona. This is ABSOLUTE FALSE!!! We have never received any money from no one!! The perception of quality is very personal and you don't have the right to talk like this about our place and about our staff!! You have been very offensive about our professionalism in the tourism sector!!
