Owner description: We close the doors of the Pi church and turn off the lights. Using lanterns to light the way, we explore the ancestral way of seeing and living beauty. And we do it at an hour when the church is closed to all but employees - and our visitors. In these guided tours in a 14th century Gothic church, the Basilica del Pi, our visitors explore by candlelight dark, hidden spaces normally off limits to visitors: the altar, the sacrarium, the sacristy and the bell tower. On the way we discover a rich language of symbolism whose message is just as relevant today as it was in the 14th century, but whose message has been lost to time. After climbing 260 winding steps in a bell tower, open to the public for the first time in its 500 year history, and seeing the bells that were rung in the siege of Barcelona in 1714, we top off the evening with a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. The Guia Secreta is a journey into history, into another state-of-mind, with the idea of rediscovering the mysteries of the temples of Barcelona in a new, refreshing way.

“Hidden history, breathtaking views”
Reviewed 24 August 2014

This tour was so good I did it twice, once in the afternoon and once in the evening. The tour itself creates a mysterious atmosphere, by deciphering some of the symbolism and history of this gothic church. The church itself is beautiful, with stops at various stages up the bell tower, before finally arriving at the top, where you're greeted by spectacular panoramic views of Barcelona, from the heart of the Gothic Quarter. The view is equally stunning during the day and at night. During the day you can survey the layout of the city, which from the ground can be very confusing. As a tourist, this view from above really completed my experience of the city. The night-time tour has a different atmosphere, because the church is even more mysterious in the dark. It's difficult to say which is better. The guide, Gabriela, was wonderfully engaging and informative.

“A good way to know a little of the hidden history of Barcelona”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

I liked the way Montse helped us to become part of the history of Barcelona and Santa María del Pi during the visit very much. She is a very good guide with a personal touch.
Many good feelings also having a cup of "cava" at the top of the tower seeing 360º Barcelona.

A good decision to take...

“Great experience”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

This is not a simple visit to a common church. It's a sensory experience that allows you to travel to Middle Ages. I did the tour at 9pm, which is great because in August it is already dark and you can feel the mysteries and the symbolism that enshroud the church. You can imagine the people who built, contributed, prayed, and lived influenced by this church as if they were still alive. After dealing with the bells, the visit finishes with a great double surprise, the first one, a wonderful view, one of the best in Barcelona, and the second.... you must go to find it out.
