Only open for a year, this beautiful structure that features a horseshoe bar and 5 different food outlets is a must fot first time visitors to Catyluna. We started with the customary tomato spread on toast followed by, jamon croquettes, cod fritters, seafood salad, and the beef tartare. Save room for their wonderful paella of the day. And desserts!

Just sound the corner of the very busy shopping street you find this old market. It doesn't look old but very modern and hip. It was early and just had our breakfast, bit we couldn't resist to have a beer at the beer bar. A nice cold Estella lemon was a perfect start of our day. Not busy at all at 11.30.

What a cool place! It's more like a Food Hall. There are multiple restaurants to choose from inside. We chose seafood. The food was delicious and the service was also good.
There is something for everyone here.
Normally there is a wait, but they do have a bar area in the center. It tends to be very noisy, so if you are looking for quiet type restaurant, you would not be happy here.

We went to this “wonderful” place with some friends and my 2 children, 1,5yrs and 3yrs. When the oldest standed on a couch that we were seating we were confronted by a extremely rude guard saying that he is a one word person and next time he would kick us out of the restaurant........I mean, he is a kid right? And there are ways of saying things, after all he only standed on the couch.

The place is very good looking, but the people is rude as hell!!!! Rule number 1 in this kind of business is SERVICE, SERVICE AND SERVICE!

this is a tricky review as el nacional is not just a restaurant. it's more like four restaurants and a few bars all under the one roof. for the venue alone - atmosphere and design - it's an easy five points excellent rating. whether you want a few drinks out or dinner, el nacional is a must-do.

we went for post-dinner drinks on my wife's birthday on the recommendation of a friend, and were so blown away by the venue we came back for dinner a few nights later. we ate at the brasserie, which specialises in meat and aged meat cooked on a charcoal grill or wood-fired oven. my wife had baked suckling lamb which neither of us ever had before and i had a stew of iberian pork cheeks in red wine.

the only reason i cannot give an overall excellent rating to el nacional was our experience at the brasserie. the food was good to very good but not excellent and likewise the service was a little perfunctory and lacked any real personal touch, although given the size of el nacional perhaps this shouldn't be such a surprise.

following dinner a drink at the cocktail bar is a must-do, if for no other reason than to sit and be dazzled by the design behind the bar.

prices here are higher than your family-run restaurant down the side street in el born, but then el nacional is on passeig de gracia and is significantly more ornate. i think accordingly the prices are worth it and we will recommend it to everyone.
