Description: A piece of the Basque Country in the middle of Barcelona downtown. Txapela is an authentic "euskal taberna" where our bars are full of PINTXOS, elaborated with the best ingredients with Protected Designation of Origin. And what a better pairing than a good glass of Txakoli, a Txikito of Basque Cider, while enjoying a sunbath in our terrace!

“nice food, bad service”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

We went there for lunch. We sat at the bar (the only place that was available). We asked one of the waitresses for menus, but she told us that we need to ask another waitress for that.
We asked the "right" waitress for the menus and got them in spanish. We tried to tell her that we need menus in english, but she didn't notice us and only after a few minutes we got them.
When we wanted to order we found out that our waitress doesn't speak english, and actually - none of the other waitresses understands english. We tried to explain her what we wanted to order and eventually she got it.
After that we wanted to order two more tapas. 10 minuted passes and only one tapas arrived. when I asked what about the other one they told us we haven't ordered it at all. Ordered it again.
meanwhile another waitress was holding a plate with a lot of tapas, and asked us if we want to try. we wanted so we took it. later we found out we needed to pay for them.
In the end the tapas I ordered arrived, and it was raw. I've had enough so I told asked them to return it and give us the bill. We then had to ask for the bill twice more until we finally got it.

“terrific tapas”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

We ate at placa catalunya. Only seats available where at the bar but would now choose to sit there as we were able to choose tapas by sight and also had friendly bar staff on hand to advise us. Food and service fantastic. There were four of us, we had 6 tapas each and two rounds of drinks for 68 Euros, really good value compared to tapas bars in harbour that we looked at earlier. Well worth a visit.

“Great tapas bar for a quick lunch”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We came here a few times to eat tapas. The service was always really friendly and the tapas very good. Also you can eat outside and one of the bars is right at the plaza Cataluña. In total there are three of them, at passeig de Gracia 8, passeig de Gracia 58 and plaza Cataluña 8.

“Don't call the waiter”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

We went to the one located at Passeig de Gracia 58, so I am not sure about the other restaurants they have.

We need to wait a bit to have a table - what was ok, since it was a weekend in Barcelona. And we choose a few pintxos from the menu (that have pictures, what make it easy to chose). We were there because I have been to San Sebastián before and wanted to taste basque pintxos again, but the food has not much to do with the pintxos I've tried in the basque country at all.

I was a little bit disappointed with the food, however the big problem was the service. We asked for a few pintxos each, and the waiters just trhowed the food in the table, we could need to lok at the pictures to find which pintxos was for each of us. It was a mess.
Because of the mess and the exchange of experience about which pintxos were better we decided we would like a new round of pintxos. The waiter seemed to enjoy ignoring our several attempts to call his attention. When we finally got to ask another drink and a few other pintxos, it took more than half an hour to bring it (a coke does not that any time to be prepared).

And the bill was mistaken, so it took us another humiliating situation trying to call the waiter.
