“Great place for Catalan Food”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

Just back from a short break in Barcelona. We rented an apartment between Poble Sec and Montjüic (quiet working class neighbourhood without hoards of tourists). We found Can Margarit recommended by Marco Polo/Süddeutsche Zeitung just around the corner.
Converted horse stables with wine barrels in high ceiling entrance hall from where to sample wine before sitting down in lovely, warm room with old wooden tables. Charming waiters, authentic catalan food: snails, rabbit, lamb, artichokes, aubergines, peppers... - the opposite of minimalistic approach. Dinner for two (2 courses, 2 1/2 caraffes with excellent house wine) for 50 Euro.

“Out of the way but worth it!”
Reviewed 24 November 2013

We visited as a large group for a friend's birthday, and had a fantastic evening- the rabbit stew in particular is excellent. When we arrived we were given glasses and told to help ourselves to wine from the casks in the entrance area, then shown through to the main restaurant which had a great atmosphere. Our waiter seemed a little stressed initially by us wanting to order lots of dishes to share but got over it pretty quickly and the food was fab!

“Worth the effort to find!!”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

You must have the rabbit with thyme! Delicious! The fried squid was the best we had in Barcelona! Service was excellent and the restaurant is such an interesting place to look around. Really very good quality Catalan food and sensible prices.

“Find This Spot!”
Reviewed 13 October 2013

So happy we followed our travel books to this wonderful tavern! The feel of the place when you walk in the door is old and authentic, with massive wine casks lining the walls and candles two feet high over years-old melted drips. The staff allow you to taste wine directly from 4 of the casks in the parlor, which you can order when you get your table. Their friendliness, cheerfulness, and style (one waiter had a bow-tie apron on) makes you feel welcomed. When you enter the dining room, a blast of warm herb scents hits your nose and your mouth starts watering. I ordered the rabbit, as the guide book suggested, and was thrilled with it. There was a half rabbit (complete with the head cleaved precisely in half) over two onions and two whole heads of garlic, smothered in delicious herbs and stewed in something wonderful. The flavor was amazing and I couldn't stop myself. We were so happy we took the time to discover this wonderful gem near Montjuic.

“A hidden gem!”
Reviewed 21 September 2013

Loved this place! It is rather hidden and off of the beaten path, but WELL worth it! It was SO nice to get away from the tourist traps. This seemed like a place locals go to. When we arrived I was a little surprised because we walked into what looked like an old barn. A big open area with high ceilings, full of wine barrels and lots of candles. We were offered tastings from their local wine, right from the barrel, before we were seated. It wasn't great wine, but ok. The food was authentic Catalonyan. I ordered the lamb chops and fried peppers and they were delicious! A little oily, but consistent with typical lamb and Spanish cooking with lots of olive oil. Dinner for two people with wine and an appetizer of the typical Catalonyan bread with oil and fresh tomato was only 31 euros. A steal! So happy we fund this place!
