Chic, classy, top end hotel with a very new feel and plenty of nice little touches in the decor and overall set-up. Rooms are excellent with wonderful showers and a real eye for detail in the lay out and look. Rooms are also quiet and have black out curtains if required for an excellent and rested nights sleep.

The best thing about the hotel however is the exceptional staff, both on reception and in the bar and dining area, they really are very good at their job and nothing seems too much trouble, so friendly and really helped make the stay there fantastic.

If you're a sucker for cocktails, avoid the bar, which makes some fine classics that can have you running up a mighty big tab, they might not be cheap (some 13 Euros a pop) but they are delicious, with a never ending supply of snacks to go with.

Good things about Murmuri:

1) Excellent location (i.e., just steps form Gaudi's works; Metro is right on the corner; the famous Mauri cafe is also right around the corner).

2) If you like a modern, boutique hotel, Hotel Murmuri is just that.

Bad things about Murmuri (as you can see, the bad outweighs the good):

1) We asked for a "privilege" room, but were put in a room of lesser quality and were charged for it; we asked to be moved the second night. Tip: Make sure that you get the room that you paid for!

2) The concierge staff does not speak English very well. They are also not very helpful with directions and don't seem to know the area very well. Some of them seem a little ditzy.

3) The bathtubs are very slippery and narrow. You could easily crack your skull in there so be careful!

4) The rooms are EXTREMELY smokey. If you don't like smoke, this is not the place for you. We were on the sixth floor, but we could still smell the intense cigar smoke from the cigar bar rise up to our level. We had to open up our window to get any semblance of fresh air in.

5) The pillows feel like rocks.

6) The breakfast is not included, very expensive, and doesn't have much variety.

Hope this review helps!

The Murmuri location is great. The area is nice and there are plenty of places to eat and drink around it. Very convenient for Gaudi houses and only 15 mins pleasant walk to Place Catalunya (and bus to/from airport if you want)

The hotel is very stylish and all fittings seem to be high end quality makes – bath, washbasin, shower, TV etc. We had booked a double superior and were initially allocated 202 which was a smoking room. After a bit of a wait we got room 302 which was non smoking. Our info in advance had said that designated smoking rooms were available on request whilst in practice it seems there is a need to specify non smoking.

The room was very nice – a huge bed, good lighting with choice of settings – relax, ambient etc, good bedside reading lights and room light controls at bedside. Small balcony which was a pleasant bonus –not really for sitting out but nice to get fresh air. Three narrow wardrobes at different points of the room gave adequate storage, although a bit tight on space to access the room safe in wardrobe beside chair and near window. Access to mini bar almost impossible as opened against the room where chair blocked robe door.

Bathroom beautiful and all aspects worked well. All areas very clean and housekeeping did a good job – as if by magic (never saw them once anywhere in the hotel)

TV had about 500 channels but we couldn’t find one in English. A call to reception on day 2 solved this and girl pressed analogue button I think which gave access to English channels, so don’t assume they aren’t there.

Breakfast was the main let down. The food was fine, but somewhat limited. Choice of 3 juices, cereals, croissants, pain au chocolat, some bread, nice preserves, smoked salmon or ham salad sandwiches, cheeses, ham. The highlight for me was the scrummy fruit kebabs. Have to say staff were not quick to replenish items. Also, breakfast was supposed to be until 11am but the food was whisked off about 10.50.

Hot food was available to order but was all at an additional charge. One euro for bacon, 2 euros eggs, 3 euros for omelette. What a cheap move. I know times are hard but when you are paying these prices that is cheap and shoddy.

However, the system/service was woeful. No one to greet you so you just sat down. You would wait ages until anyone came near – and they were only interested in asking your room number(which they usually forgot and had to ask again.) No interest whatsoever in offering tea or coffee (getting blood from a stone comes to mind) Tea was half a cup of luke warm water from a flask with a teabag to follow unless you asked for a pot. Never in 3 days were we asked would we like tea or coffee or would we like more tea or coffee. Easiest just to get up and go to the workstation and get it yourself but usually they had run out.

There was a bottle of cava in an ice bucket on the way in at the opposite end of the dining room from the rest of the breakfast but it was certainly never offered by the staff. Maybe you had to ask for it…on the basis of charging for bacon maybe you had to pay. I’ll never know!!

The bar was pleasant for a drink and was usually quite busy – seemed to be a place to be seen. However, as with everywhere in Barcelona smoking is prevalent ( if you are used to UK and Ireland no smoking in public places laws and don’t smoke it can be very off putting but that’s just something you have to get used to. Great for smokers though!)

Overall a good stay but let down by breakfast.

Some friends and I stayed for nearly a week. The regular rooms were clean and well appointed. Furnishings were new. Bathrooms were new and pristine. The hotel staff was superb and provided excellent guidance about where to dine and what to do. The city has become one of my favorites and so has this hotel -- it has a boutique feel with great quality. Reminds me in that respect of the Sagamore in South Beach.

This hotel is fantastic, the rooms are big and spacious and very modern. The bathroom is the exact same. The staff are very friendly and very helpful. It has an excellent location which means that you can walk anywhere, there is also a metro station close by for longer trips. The hotel has a bar which is nice but quite expensive for drinks. Along the strip outside the hotel there are numerous restraunts and tapas bars.

We stayed here for 2 nights in July. We waited a good 40 minutes to check in so we were a little worried about our stay. After finally getting our rooms later in the day we walked into a very beautiful room. Very nice bathrooms as well. The breakfast was just right before our days out exploring the wonderful city. Overall we really liked staying here. It was a very nice hotel.

What a great hotel - great rooms, great service, excellent staff, fantastic restaurant, top location. If you're looking for somewhere to stay in Barcelona then the boutique Murmuri is it. It is close to many of the Gaudi houses but far enough away from the mayhem of La Rambla. The Metro is almost at the doorstep, too. We stayed in a Privilege room, which has a great extra room where we put a three-year-old in a fold-away bed and a one-year-old in a cot. The room has a sliding door that can be closed to allow parents privavcy and rest!
Our only complaint - the restaurant doesn't have a high chair for babies.
