We went to Can Mano on our first night in Barcelona, and loved it so much we went back on our last night. The seafood is wonderfully fresh and delicious - order the red mullet (at €8.5 they were one of the most expensive things on the menu, but worth it) and some sardines alongside a delicious chorizo tortilla. Word of warning, make sure to get a salad, otherwise your arteries will feel very clogged - nearly everything is fried which is delicious but maybe not the healthiest option. Wash it down with a bottle of the house wine at €4.5 and you'll get a great meal for two for around €20-30 (depending on how cheap you do it). They also have some combination plates, which you can just about see in the picture - featuring things like squid, chips and tomatoes on one plate. They aren't printed on the menu, though, so you'll have to translate the menu on the wall if you want to go for a really cheap option.

The restaurant opens at 8 for dinner and it fills up immediately. There is always a queue outside but just get a beer while you wait. Despite this, we never felt rushed by the waiters, and I would definitely go back here if ever in Barcelona again. No, it's not the most glamorous of locations, but there's still a great atmosphere in the place, so don't rule out romance entirely.

Everything about this place is excellent: seafood is fresh and like a Mediterranean mother would cook. If you happen to go in season, just order the red mullet (8.5€ portion). With some grilled calamari (8.5€), fried vegetables (pepper, aubergine and tomatoes, each 1.50€) and salad (4€), it’s one of the best things you can eat in Barcelona. Also the house wine is quite cheap (4.5€) and goes well with everything on the menu. The atmosphere is also simple and real, bright white florescent bulbs lighting up the tightly arranged basic tables and chairs. You see the ladies in the kitchen cook and waiters joke around as they deliver astonishingly tasty dishes to the tables. Just order a beer from the bar and wait for your turn to be amazed. Though they also have red meat etc. it is the sea that they are a part of and know how to turn into something great.

Really good fresh seafood.

This is not a Tapas bar and there are no reservations. If you want a table go early.

We had dinner here as I had read good reviews about the place on Tripadvisor and I was not disappointed. Admittedly it is not an easy place to find and it does lack a bit of "ambience" but if you are looking for basic, simple food that is cooked the old-fashioned way, this is the place to go! We ate some grilled prawns that looked like that had come out of my granma's owen (and I come from Naples, where seafood is a tradition!). Oh, and don't forget to order the cloudy (young) wine: is refreshing and very fruity!

We had lunch here on the day of our 30th wedding anniversary. It's easy to pass it by but the live Latino trumpet playing caught our ear, so we walked in and grabbed a table - it gets really busy so be prepared to share a table with others, but that only adds to the atmosphere.

We ordered a bottle of the local red wine which comes slightly chilled and was delicious - and less than €4. The service is friendly but basic - plates, cutlery and glasses are 'plonked' on the table, but who cares! We ordered fried calamari, fried green peppers, potatos bravas and some veal - all were delicious. The number of locals enjoying their meal suggested it's very popular and good value - we agree. Further live Spanish guitar music and signing rounded off a very enjoyable anniversary lunch. By the time we'd finished people were queuing outside in the narrow street waiting for a table - if that's the case just order a drink from the bar and wait - it'll be worth it!
