We came here after reading about the history of the place and wow it definitely looks like you just went back in time! The service is amazing and the staff are welcoming and super friendly and very happy to recommend new drinks to try. We would love to come back here again ! The only downside is a loud group of american teenagers ruining the atmosphere but there's nothing the staff can do about that. Overall a fantastic experience.

What a great place. Talk about going back in time. Places like this are a wonderful reason for exploring the nooks and crannies of Europe .

We decided to end our evening at this very unique absinthe bar. It is off the beaten path but worth a visit. As other reviewers have noted this bar has been stuck in a time warp for many decades- which adds to its charm. Our server was very friendly and provided good instructions on preparing our absinthe drink!

It is the typical hidden bar in barcelona... They say picasso and hemingway passed by here and it is quite believable, you just sit there and order absinthe which is the specialty, you light the sugar, let it melt, turn off with water and just drink one of the strongest alcohols you'll ever taste!

So this place opened in 1820, and quite literally hasn't been decorated since then. Its like going back in time and is absolutely incredible. Rather than some theme bar or something decorated to look old, this is the real deal !!

The place has been frequented over the years by Hemingway and Picasso, who came for the absinthe....and who could blame them, its top notch!

Friendly bar staff too who are more than helpful at explaining how the absinthe fork sugar and water work if you aren't sure. We had a few drinks, the stuff is lethal haha.

Even though its not far from Las Ramblas (we walked there in 15 minutes), its probably not the neighbourhood you want to be walking in after dark. Outside of the bar several prostitutes were hanging around, and we got "approached" by them as we left, there were also gangs of men and youths in the neighbourhood that made us feel uncomfortable.

DEFFINETLY go here if you are in Barcelona, but arrange transport to and from here and avoid the neighbourhood.
