Unfortunately I can't rate the quality of food and drink at Caelum because a few moments after we ordered I discovered that my bag had been stolen, The place has a very safe and homely feel which can give a false sense of security. I now realise that the thief was a well dressed middle-aged man who appeared to be a customer looking at cakes whilst talking on his phone - of course! Even the staff didn't seem to notice anything untoward about him. Whilst bag snatching is an ever-present danger in Barcelona wherever you go, other popular patisseries such as Mauri on Carrer Provenca (highly recommended), have prominent signs reminding customers to take care. Caelum needs to do this too. I don't believe that signs like this deter customers, but rather show that the establishment cares about the security of its clients. The reaction of the staff to my situation was relatively unconcerned and they seemed to want us to leave quickly rather than disturb the cosy feel of the place. So I won't be returning, but if you do decide to give it a try, guard your belongings very closely!!

We stumbled across Caelum hot and tired having done half our walking tour of Bari Gotic. Great tea and lovely cakes but the most astounding thing about this restaurant is the building having been a Jewish bath house hundreds of years ago! The toilet is tiny and is a must to visit. A little bit of France in Barcelona. We'll worth seeking out.

This is an absolute must for folks interested in history and pastry. The street level shop sells a variety of pastries and sweets from local convents and monasteries. However, the real treat is below. In the back of the shop is a steep, winding staircase that leads down to the old jewish baths from the 6th century (the shop is located at the intersection of Carrer de la Palla (Street of Straw) and Carrer dels Bany Nous (Street of the New Baths). As I recall there were liquors as well as wine and, of course, coffee, teas and some really amazing pastries. I also understand that there is occasional entertainment as well. When in Barcelona, this is a wonderful place to visit after a late lunch or light dinner. http://caelumbarcelona.com/

The perfect little cake-tea shop at the Gothic District (old town in Barcelona). It was the perfect recomendation from a friend to go and make a stop for tea time and try their traditional handmade pastry. You have to visit both the street level floor as well as the lower level, You will be suprised with a monastery cavern on the lower level versus a cozy vintage store on the upper level.
Whether you try the tea, coffee or hot chocolate with the delightful patisserie, you will not be disppointed. Very nice atmosphere.
