Description: The restaurant la Calendula, attached to the hotel Del Teatre, is located in the medieval village of Regencós, in the heart of the Costa Brava and of the Empordá region, in the midst of nature, between sea and mountain. Its chef Iolanda Bustos has just began this new venture, after running during six years a successful restaurant of the same name in Girona. Together with her staff, she offers a distinctive and creative cuisine, which uses the best local products and particularly a great variety of wild herbs, roots and flowers, which she gathers daily, in order to create a landscape in every dish. Born in the Empordá, Iolanda blends traditional recipes with an avant-garde concern for nature and the environment, making use of the wealth of local raw materials and exalting their natural flavours. The King Bacchus wine bar and the restaurant's cave offer a wide selection of the best local wines. The interior decoration was designed by the Tres Trastos Studio, who created a comfortable and relaxed, yet elegant atmosphere inside. But in nice weather, the terrace allows one to enjoy a meal surrounded by plants and flowers, listening to the numerous birds that come every spring to Regencós to nest. The restaurant la Calendula is open every day for lunch and dinner from Easter to October and during week-ends and feast days in November and December..

“Nice surprise”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

The surprise has not been the use of flowers, but that the base cooking is very good and flowers are used to bring a subtle touch of flavor and aroma that is very well fitted.
We just had a couple of set lunches and paid 40 EUR for both, but the experience has been good enough to want to come back to go for the long menu.

“Truly Delightful Experience - 4.5 Stars”
Reviewed 8 December 2013

We had dinner here one night while in Girona. It is NOT in the Old Town which is too bad because most tourist will unfortunately miss out on this special place. However, it's an easy 10-15 minute walk from there and it's well worth it. The kitchen is in the center of the restaurant so you can watch the cooking in progress. Herbs and flowers are on the counters and tables.

Each main dish has flowers and herbs as a focus. This really adds a wonderful flavor dimension to the food. I rarely encounter this style at other restaurants, and I can't understand why more places don't utilize or emphasize nature. I really enjoy restaurants that do. They also have many gluten free dishes.

For our dinner, we shared the cuttlefish carpaccio which was really fabulous. For dinner we each had a fish dishes. I had the squid with asparagus and crispy bacon and my husband had the cod pil-pil with almond and both were cooked perfectly, amazingly beautiful and so flavorful. All the ingredients were so fresh tasting. We also shared a dessert and a bottle of wine. The bread was great and so was the service. Price was a bit high, but it's worth it for that special night out. 4.5 stars

“Incredible!!!”
Reviewed 7 January 2013

The best meal I have ever had. It blew my mind and changed my perception of food altogether. Everything was delicious and beautifully presented. The restaurant staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is quiet and pleasant. It all makes for a spectacular dining experience. Also, they paired wine/beer with the courses, which was fantastic. If you are in Girona, you would be foolish not to eat here.

“Amazing, gluten-free dinner”
Reviewed 4 October 2012

What a dinner. A feast for the eyes and an exquisite delight for the tastebuds. I'd read about this restaurant specializing in fresh foraged herbs and edible flowers, so we decided to try it. Better yet, most of the choices on the menu were either gluten free or could be altered to be so. Gary's salad arrived--a wonderful mix of fresh figs, wild greens, and flowers. My rare grilled duck breast with wild berries and minted rice was outstanding. Everything tasted intensely itself, if that makes any sense: berries were essence of berries; minted rice was creamy, lightly minted and fresh; the duck breast was crisp on the outside, melting tender inside. Etc. We returned a few days later and had their regular fixed-price lunch (13.50€), which was quite nice but not exceptional. Next time, we'll do the luncheon "flower menu"--it'll cost more (24€) but I'm sure it will be worth it.
