We've not been to Gerona before and decided to use a generous loyalty offer from Melia hotels to see the old city. We upgraded the offer to a half-board, 'Romantic weekend' package at minimal cost to include some 'freebies'. Free secure parking, wi-fi, Bottle of Cava etc. However, we didn't get off to a great start when we tried the 'Spa' facilities, we found the water in the Jacussi needed changing, the tide-mark needed attention and no hot water in the spa shower!
However it did get much better... The room was clean, quiet and comfortable. The restaurant staff are great and the meal was excellent and included a bottle of wine and a couple of glasses of Cava (as part of the romantic weekend package). Breakfast was excellent with a great range of things to choose from, a hot breakfast was available but the pre-cooked items in the servery looked rather tired. The chef was friendly and I'm sure she would have cooked fresh items if asked.
All told, we really enjoyed the Melia Gerona, mostly influenced by the very helpful staff and the great standard displayed in the restaurant. We never did get the chocolates and bowl of fruit that were part of the package, but frankly we were so well fed that we probably couldn't have found the space!
It's approximately a 20 minute walk to the old city and we enjoyed our time there, it was a national holiday while we were there and museums etc were closed, but cafes' were all open. We liked old Gerona and the Melia Gerona and would be happy to return there.

Very clean comfortable room. Best bed I have ever slept in in a hotel! Very good breakfast with a big choice of fresh foods. Location is about 10 minutes walk from train/bus station and about 20/25mins from the old town.

Well run hotel next to El Cort Ingles department store in characterless area on main road south of Girona centre. The rooms are very comfortable (although ours was not especially well cleaned: watch out for those dusty surfaces) and, although we were at the back western end and therefore overlooking the train line, ours was remarkably quiet (double window). It is a 15-25 min walk along a busy road to the train/bus stations and town centre, so better to get the bus (L2) or taxi. Nearby Parc Migdia (10 minutes walk) has a nice cafe-bar-lunchtime restaurant which is a good place to relax, and with a map you can walk on from there to follow the pleasant riverbank into town. There are no decent restaurants or bars by the hotel. The only reason for not especially recommending this hotel is because of the location.

This hotel is worth staying in. We found rooms at about E55/night which was great value. Rooms clean, staff very helpful and with excellent English. Girona is well worth a visit. Most people head for Barcelona but as we have been there, we took a train to Figures and went to the Dali museum which isn't really my usual thing but I enjoyed it far more than expected - amazingly weird stuff going on there!.
It is a good 15 mins walk into the city centre, but hey, it keeps you fit. We cheated and took taxis in the evening to the centre for about E6-E8 and walked off the excess food and drink on return to hotel.
I thought the room was too hot, but is very subjective and it must be difficult for any hotel to get the heat to suit all guests. I would have no hesitation before booking here again.

We stayed at Melia Girona for 5 days. Clean, quiet, spacious rooms, varied breakfast items, overall a very pleasant experience. Staff very helpful and spoke english very well which in Spain it is a big plus. All for a very good price. Very central just 5 minutes ride with the bus to the old town of Girona/ Girona city centre,or 20 minutes by walk. For those who love shopping it is just 10 steps away from GiroCentre which holds El Corte Ingles within its building.
I recommend this hotel to users especially the very worth it offers they have from time to time. Thinking about the buffet breakfast for just EUR5 a couple, what an offer! How extremely delicious!!! Fresh orange juice is simply superb.
