“fantastic location, building, service and staff”
Reviewed 16 March 2011

A beautiful building in a beautiful part of the old town. The rooms are quaint and warm (the bed was only 6 foot long...) the communal lounge relaxing and the breakfast area unique. There is an outside dining courtyard (but it was too wet to use during our stay). The owner of the business couldn't have been more helpful or welcoming. The food was continental style, fresh and filling and very reasonable at 7 euros. We loved staying here. Free fast access wi-fi as well if you wanted to escape the ancient surroundings virtually!

The downsides were only two but both part of the staying in such an area. The bells of the nearby cathedral were disturbing in the early hours and late evening; and the parking if you arrive by car is difficult (the hotel will give you a permit to park local but finding a space is the most challenging part- don't even think about bringing a big car into this part of town). Like I said though, you are stopping in a medieval location and it's all part of the charm!

If you're in Girona this hotel is well worth a look!

We stayed at the Bellmirall for five nights and loved it. Slightly poor noise insulation between the room and corridor were the only faults we found. Otherwise it was perfect and we would certainly return. The decor was beautiful and the breakfasts generous.

We stumbled on the Bellmirall and without reservations were able to get two nights. The location is unbeatable in the heart of the most charming part of old town Girona and we paid a fair 85€/night. Christina was exceptionally helpful and welcoming. The room was charming and unpretentious with a cute little balcony and three beds. The bathroom was indeed small, but lacked nothing and was very clean. The breakfast on the patio was memorable - such a cute place with a warm and homey feel. I must admit that the bells were a bit tough on me at first, but by closing the windows and the wooden shutters, I was able to sleep well. The second night I didn't even notice them. Parking is at the university, a 300 meter walk from the hotel. We loved our time in Girona and the Bellmirall is one of the reasons why.

This is a charming hotel, well located in the old center near the cathedral. If you have any difficulty with bells all night (three different churches, about a minute apart), be sure to bring your earplugs. My husband had no trouble with the bells, but I used earplugs, as I do in many towns in Spain, France, and Italy, and slept fine. We had one of the rooms with the bath in the hall, although it was private and robes supplied, and the price was right at 65 euros with breakfast. The room was cute if not huge, and had a view over the street. Breakfast just fine, and we were happy with the communal tables at breakfast. We also appreciated the use of umbrellas.

Our stay in this beautiful Pension, left a lovely experience and memoirs of a warm, cozy environment, very helpful staff, charming festive season decorations, and comfortable facilities. Even at booking stage months before our arrival, Cristina, the lady who runs the place, was so helpful to accommodate to our requests. Had read previously about the notorious bells, and about a room with a window facing only a small shaft, but had no problems with these at all. The view from our window was over the street, whereas the view from the one in the bathroom, featured the cobbled street leading to the cathedral as well as other buildings. The dining area was impeccably neat and tidy all day long. It has also a unique character, particularly in the setting of round tables. We found the living area also quite relaxing and peaceful. As for our triple room, it was big enough for the three of us, and bathroom was always clean, although being not so modern. The stairs were perhaps a bit challenging, particularly going up the 2 levels with our luggage to our room, but then it was not an impossible mission, so can't complain about that. The site also comprises of a luggage room, so that your room is kept as spacious as possible. Although parking facilities are at least a 10 minute walk away mostly on cobbled steep streets, one can park temporarily at the nearby university grounds to ease the un/loading of luggage. Don't know what else to add. All in all, it was such a positive experience. The only negative thing was the constant rain, but that is not the pension's fault, and changes nothing of our judgement about the Bellmirall as being a wonderful place were to stay ... and to return :)

After reading all the reviews, I think we expected more. Best location in the heart of medieval Girona. Nice continental breakfast, very lovely staff, walking distance of the bus station from airport (up steep hill). The rooms were small and lacking for the price--tiny bathroom, shower. We wish we'd stayed in the cheaper 4-star place outside town and taken the convenient bus in.

The Bellmirall is a beautiful, quaint little hotel/Pension in the middle of the historic centre - right next to the Cathedral. Room was spotless, with nice furnishings. Great location for exploring Cathedral, St Felue and city walls.

We used Girona as a base for visiting both Figueres for the Dali Museum (20 mins on the train, around €4) and Barcelon (50mins on the train, around €5.60).

*What's great:
- Beautiful rooms, stone walls, balcony.
- Great breakfast in lovely little garden or main room.
- Staff. Very friendly and helpful.
- Lovely part on Girona, easy to access all tourist spots and cafes.

*Things that could put people off:
- Rooms are lovely, but fairly small (especially the bathroom).
- There's no hanging space/storage.
- Cathedral bells. (The hotel is literally next to the Cathedral, which rings every 15mins and the number of the hour. Fine if you're a heavy sleeper like me, but otherwise ear-plugs are essential).
- Lots of steps to reach the hotel.

*Getting there
- Main train station is 20mins walk. (Goes to France, Figueres, Barcelona etc.)
- Sagres Bus from Girona airport. (about €8 return, takes 25mins, goes every hour to bus station next to train station)
- NB: you cannot drive right to this hotel. Historic Girona is a residents-only driving area.

Loved this hotel, will definitely go back.

  • Liked — Lovely warm hotel and great staff.
  • Disliked — Church bells - although they added character!
