This is one of those hotels that you want to give an excellent review--it's quaint, charming, the women who run it are wonderful, but we just couldn't get over the fact that the cathedral bells chime every 15 minutes and traffic on the street below sounds like a drag strip. We got a very bad night's sleep. Our room was small and breakfast was adequate and served on a lovely terrace. I would not go back because of the noise.

The Lonely Planet and the Sat Nav brought us to this historic hotel, one of the best we stayed in. It was well worth the narrow cobbled streets and challenging parking. Turn left past the hotel and then right into a large parking area. The hostess couldn't have been more helpful. The large rooms were very clean and well kept. The shared lounge and dining areas were beautiful with local decorations. Breakfast lacked consideration for a gluten free diet, but the rest of my group ate well.

Girona, Gerona - what a beautiful little jewel of a town! Some poeple visit for a day - but what a shame they miss this little storybook nook in Catalunya. First thing first.... the pension is lovely and super cozy and if you dream about the church bells ringing in Spain, this IS the place to stay. However, be forewarned that the church bells ring once every 15 minutes and 4 rings every hour or so as if reminding you that time is passing whether you want it to or not...

Thoughts about my stay at Bellmirall:
Pros: great for visiting sites like the church, museums, Parc de la Devesa, the San Daniel walk, or university. You are literally at their footsteps.
- to get to shopping you are just a couple of short narrow corridors away. To get back to the hotel, you guessed it, it is up hill. Easy to do if you are accustomed to doing some walking back home, if not, get ready to do some heavy breathing.
- breakfast....was simple, but always fresh, local, and on time.
- SUPER CLEAN and neat!
- New restaurant opened around the corner called El Didal - AMAZING! Full of locals and the food and drinks were very traditional. Fantastic service and great prices too.

CONsiderations:
- wi-fi only in the sitting room downstairs. after hours you need a key which needs to be asked for before caretaker goes to bed.
- Room 5 only has a sink. Shared bath down a short hall. VERY clean! I was a single woman traveler and felt VERY safe.
- If you get easily turned around this location may not be for you as this place is at the top of the labernyth.
- never knew stone walls could be so paper thin.... you could hear EVERYTHING outside, next doors etc. Not a good place for the light sleeper, even though after about 11:30ish things got VERY quiet outside - except for the bells and here and there some cars would come zooming by this tiny little cobble stone street.
- No safe in room and "closet" was a little linen IKEA like structure.
- I can sleep on anything but some would say that the bed was a little lumpy and pillows rather flat.

My room had a balcony with two little chairs - great to watch the folks walking below and have some coffee (balcony was shared with two other rooms).

Ps... No TV in room. Not sure there was even a tv downstairs.

All this said, I loved it! I LOVED every minute of my stay. It just worked for me and my travel needs. I think however that there will soon be new ownership... so keep this in mind.

We stayed at the Bellmirall hotel for one night in October. Having negotiated the many steps to the hotel from the station we were given a warm welcome by our hosts. The bedroom was small but very comfortable and the decor was beautiful. We were able to get Wifi from our room which was really useful. Breakfast was fabulous and the coffee was excellent.
The only downside (which didn't bother me but it might be a problem for some visitors) was the ringing of many church bells chiming the time.
I would wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.

The hotel was designed with care, it is located in the heart of the old city, and the breakfast was very good. If you are arriving by car you can get a parking permit from the hotel that allows you to park nearby (inside the walls of the old city) if you are lucky enough to find a parking space.

Charming place, located at the top of the hill hidden near cathedral. We had a private bathroom but it was down the hall from the room, tiny shower. This place is ideal for couples, it's very romantic. We were traveling with our baby though - so maybe not the best option for us. Tiny stairs to the rooms, no elevator so don't bring any large luggage. The staff is very nice though, in fact the only nice locals we met in this town. Girona is incredibly unfriendly in general, snobby actually, surprised us for a town this size with no artwork. Other tourists were more helpful than local business employees at helping us find our way around town or get baby supplies. We speak Catalan and Spanish fluently, so it wasn't a language issue. I wouldn't come here again, it reminded me of Florence but more expensive, smaller, and without the art. There are way better places to visit in Catalunya. BTW, wifi only in living room.

Room Tip: booking.com but unusual 4-day cancellation here
