“Superb. Period.”
Reviewed 11 July 2009

The location is excellent and difficult to beat. It really is right there next to one of the cathedral's plazas. It's terrific. Who cares about the bells? It's awesome.

The decor is a pleasant mix of the old stone from the original building and modern granite and wood. It functions very well from an aesthetic standpoint.

Staff were friendly, competent, and quick to do what they said they would do.

If you can get a deal, the apartments are a steal. For us, even just for two people, an apartment was cheaper than the regular hotel room, which turned into a wonderful blessing. The apartment was massive, and not just by Catalan standards. It could sleep five, including the couch. The kitchen was quality, with all appliances functioning perfectly. A drawback, though, is that we had no washer. There was clearly the typical alcove for a washer, but it was vacant. And the fridge was a monster. It chilled better than anything I've ever experienced in Spain.

Also, flat-screen tv, satellite (I watched the Barca-Chelsea semi) all work great. My only real complaint is that lack of wireless internet. The rooms are, however, wired with ethernet jacks, and the guy at the lobby desk was only too happy to lend us an ethernet chord, thus remedying the problem.

I highly recommend this place to anyone, especially during the off-season when the deals you can get for such quality are just unheard of. This is the best hotel in all of Girona, hands-down. The only other complaint is that I was with friends and not able to take advantage of the uber-romatic atmosphere of the hotel and Girona's old quarter with a significant other.

After tripadvisor recommendations we booked this hotel. We were pleased to have a personal pickup from the airport with our late night arrival from Pescara. The trip to the hotel was interesting and we were excited to find ourselves in the historic centre stopping almost next to the huge cathedral. Thehotel is beautifully maintained and we were upgraded to a 2 bedroom apartment - very flash. The apartment was spotless and cleaned promptly each day. Breakfasts were a bit chaotic as there were many cyclists staying at the same time - and they seemed to invade like a plague of locusts. Food was quickly replenished however and there was a good selection - with nice freshly brewed coffee as well.

We ended up staying at Hotel Historic at the beginning and end of our trip and were incredibly satisfied both times by the friendliness of the staff and hotel accommodations. The hotel is right in the heart of the old city, which really is worth a visit. We stayed in an apartment both times due to lack of availability in the hotel rooms and they were each spacious and clean. The bells can bother however, especially if you are a light sleeper. Consider ear plugs! But ask the owners about the Jewish quarter as they know a lot.
Definitely worth a stay.

We spent 3 nights at Hotel Historic after reading the good reviews in Tripadvisor. We were not disappointed. The hotel is in a perfect situation in the Call, the old Jewish quarter of Girona. Some parts of the hotel date back 1700 years and the building has been sympathetically restored to enhance its historic features. Our room was large and tastefully decorated with a large fully tiled bathroom. The owner speaks good English. Both he and his wife were helpful and pleasant. We would go back to this hotel again.

The rooms in the main building are unbelievable -- beautiful stone walls, gorgeous bathroom, etc. etc. Service is fabulous and the location--hard by the Cathedral in the middle of the medieval district --is just stunning. Price (115 Euros) was pretty nice too. One issue: the bells in the Cathedral ring hourly through the night. Some can sleep through this, but if you cannot, it might be a problem. Other than that, this is a great hotel, and the proprietor is a font of information about restaurants, regional travel, etc.

Xavier and his family were so welcoming, one of the distinct advantages of staying at a family run hotel.

We missed our flight home so had to stay another 2 nights which was great as we couldn't have asked for a nicer friendlier hotel to stay.

The pillows were a bit hard and there was no draw space, only wardrobe hanging space which was a bit of an inconvenience.

The bells became part and parcel of waking up which I actually liked.

As 2 girls on our own, we felt very safe in this charming little town and had lots of late nights but were not at all worried about walking home, even though the steps were a killer!!!

This hotel was really just great,
and it's such a romatic place to stay with your mate.

It's also a place where a former Tour de France winner has frequently stayed,
and being there we thought we had it made.

The decor in the room just worked really well.
Being there made us feel real swell.

They spent a lot of money making it that way,
that I have nothing at all bad to say.

The bathroom decor had a lovely design,
and all the tile and fixtures were very fine.

The rooms are not big but they are not that small,
and there's this cool spiral granite staircase outside in the hall.

The hotel is located in the walled city of Gerona,
it was frankly so much cooler than Barcelona.

But that's just my opinion because I like the slower pace,
not the feeling like I'm at a NASCAR race.

Gerona is like going back in time,
the old wall city streets are magically sublime.

Let yourself get lost and walk in circles like we did,
and feel like you are a little kid.

As you meander along all the cobblestone streets,
make sure to wear comfy flat shoes on your tired feets.

You'll see professional cyclists zooming around,
you'll feel like a hidden gem of a town you have found.

We stayed in the hotel as opposed to the apartments in the same place,
because it had been modernized and suited our taste.

If your lucky your cab driver might take you to the door,
and I think the rules of it being a walking street he did ignore.

It made it easier for us as we didn't have to worry about getting lost,
and the cab fare wasn't really a bad cost.

Maybe you'll discover this wonderful crepe place we found,
and eat ten of them and gain an exta pound.

The owner of the hotel speaks English just fine,
and in the town I hope you enjoy fine Spanish wine.
