We loved this hotel & we also loved Girona. We are travelling around Spain and spent three nights in the Pyrenees and only two nights in Girona. I would definately do it the other way around. You need at least three nights in Girona. Hotel Historic is simply lovely and the family who owns it are also equally lovely. The rooms are spacious, I organised the booking from Australia and requested a specific room from the web site - we got the room! Xavier met us at the door and helped us park (a challenge!). We had lunch the following day at Can Roca, another must if you are visiting Girona. Xavier and his family are very welcoming and happy to make recommendations and suggestions if you ask. I hope that one day we can come back and spend a week. Hotel Historic is excellent value for money, you really do get spoilt.

We found this hotel by chance, from a list at the Girona visitors' center. Girona is a beautiful city, and we actually found the parking area with good instructions from the visitors' center. The building is beautiful, the renovations so tastefully done. We stayed in the hotel, not an apartment, though we would consider that if we go back. The room was spacious, the bed very comfortable, A/C worked well, and with windows closed, we heard no noise from the outside. The bathroom was clean, large and beautifully done. The juxtaposition between the 9th century building and modern conveniences felt just right. The location was wonderful for walking around the old city, with museums and restaurants nearby. Javi and his family were warm, friendly and very helpful answering questions. Wished we had stayed longer!

We stayed here for two nights in May. The hotel is located next to the cathedral and we would have never found it without the GPS. It seems like a relatively new place, and is clean and modern while retaining the historical walls and other elements.

Even though there was deafening cleaning of a historic building taking place outside, our second-floor hotel room was quiet and pleasant.

The hotel is run by a mother-son team. Javier, the son, is accomodating and friendly and helped us with several issues, including a wrongfully attributed parking ticket and ordering taxis. The mother, however, could stand to take a few hospitality classes, especially regarding how to talk to guests. who tend to ask for things, without condescension. It's wonderful to stay in a locally run place, but when it is charging a high rate and claims to be a 4-star hotel, one expects a certain level of politeness.

The apartments here are similar prices to the rooms and are beautifully decorated, spacious, clean and well-equipped. The bed was very comfortable and the rooms are cool and airy.
The location is ideal for exploring the old part of the city. It feels very special as its location is so close to the cathedral etc. There are plenty of nice tapas bars and restaurants around and prices are reasonable.
Yes, the cathedral bells do ring throughout the night but we didn't find it particularly disruptive and it is very atmospheric.

We are two couples who stayed at the Historic for three nights in May, renting two apartments, which we liked very much. The beds were quite comfortable. And we barely heard the cathedral bells once we put in earplugs (the bells had been a big concern, we like our sleep!)

The hotel is in the historic center, so you can easily walk (provided you have well cushioned, comfortable shoes), to major attractions such as the cathedral (duh!), the Jewish museum, the art museum, gardens, and Roman walls (which you can walk on). Girona has fine restaurants, you won't go hungry and you needn't spend tons of money to get a good meal.

The Historic is very friendly to bikers. Apparently there are some 700 miles of biking trails and roads in the area. We, however, were driving by car. If you do so, BE SURE TO CALL THE HOTEL to get driving directions. Xavier speaks English. But expect to get lost anyway. By the third day we had it figured out--then it was time to leave!

Ok so the plan had been to stay the weekend and ride some of the local climbs. Small problem was the -7C weather at night (but then all Europe was frozen), and a dose of food poisoning from the first night (which wasn't the fault of the hotel). But apart from those two things, my say was good. Helped immeasurably by Chavi, one of the owners who was as helpful as my poor condition allowed. Yes there are the bells, bells and bells. But then if you don't get bells at home, just enjoy the difference. Chavi was a mine of information on local cycling routes, local cyclists, and generally as excited about cycling as I am. I did also discover that wireless doesn't work with walls 3' thick, but they had good cable.
I will definitely go back, when the weather is better. Oh, and as far as finding the hotel by car, get a GPS and it's a cinch. A difficult cinch yes, but still a cinch. Cheers, Robert.

we stayed teh apartments, 2 bedrooms, livingroom, kitchen and bath...GREAT!!

Great location in historic part of the city. 3 churches in sight, there will be lots of bells, all day long... At first we thought it would be nightmare to sleep, but we were wrong...the bells were there, but no problem. More noise came from the cars in the morning.

The owner was just great, friendly and very helpful!

About 5 mins walking there is 4 foodstores...for what ever you need in the kitchen.

More places like this, and traveling as family would be luxury wthhout lots of money
