Description: Casa Marieta was founded in 1892, at the same time as the first stage of the modernist movement (the end of the 19th century) and the opening of the old narrow gauge train line between Girona and St. Feliu de Guixols. Ever since, Casa Marieta has offered its customers home cooking based on tradition and a familiar welcome. The Catalan sense of tradition is evident in all the dishes currently on the menu: chicken with crayfish, roast lamb, duck with pears, sepia with peas... All home-made. Restaurant Casa Marieta is located on the emblematic Placa Independencia, in the beautiful city centre of Girona. The cathedral, which has the widest Gothic nave in the world, can be seen from the Square. Crossing the stone bridge over the River Onyar, you enter the heart of the old city which has a historic relationship with the Jewish community: the Jewish Call and Torre Gironella.

“Good for carnivores”
Reviewed 26 June 2014

we chose this restaurant from it's menu as it had a few vegetrarian choices for one of our party. unfortunately her first choice, Macaroni cheese, was not available!!?? The only other choice was offered and turned out to be quite good. The rest of us had good meals but were left quite bemused as to the reasons for non-availability of a staple like cheese pasta.

“Crema catalana”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

The 'escalivada' (Catalana grilled vegetables) was good, and so was the 'turbo a la planxa' (turbot), but the Crema Catalana was a REVELATION. The best ever, anywhere.

“Good Catalan Fare at a Restaurant Operating Since 1892”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

My wife and I were in Girona (Catalonia, Spain) for a 3-day visit. We've been there many times beforor e and decided to try a traditional restaurant for lunch one day: Casa Marieta, located in the Plaça de la Independència. We both had a salad that was quite large and overall good. We followed that with a main course of Arrossejat de Fideus (also known as Fideuà), and were much less happy with it. Just OK. Casa Marieta is an old, traditional Catalan restaurant that is decent for families and groups. However, don't expect El Bulli or Celler de Can Roca here.

“Go for the suquet”
Reviewed 15 May 2014

Such a busy day as expected at the Temps de Flors - could not get in at Can Marquès near the market so plan B. No booking, 15 minute wait to sit well worth it. The suquet is an intensely fishy platter with hake, monkfish, prawns, langoustine, mussels, clams in a broth and sliced potato €36. The portion would have fed 3 or four with side veg. Half bottle Cava very tasty, fruity/dry white from Cune cellar a winner at c. €12, mineral water & croquetas and assorted patés to start. €78 all in for 2. Starters were a little ordinary or the food would have scored a 5, bumping the whole thing up to an overall 5. Nearly went to Divinia up the road (a bit pricey and over-elaborate by the look of its menu). So glad we went with this, it was recommended by locals.
