We were at el celler in March and we absolutely loved it. However, we agree with some comment made that the service is good but a bit like a "marathon". We would think slowing down and having longer stops between the meals (maybe will add 1 hour to the experience) will make the visit to this restaurant even more incredible.
Another thing that we missed was a bit of background music and maybe someone waiting for the guests outside at the door or having it simply opened as a welcoming sign.
For the rest, it is all about good food and good wines. We chose the classic menu which contains the big hits of the restaurant"s dishes to-date. It is a good quantity and you can enjoy fully all dishes without having the feeling that you cannot anything else.
We also enjoyed a lot the fact that our waiter gave us a tour of the kitchen, that was great!!!
El celler is a restaurant where more important than looks are the tastes!

My husband and i made our reservation around 6 months before our trip, and based our whole trip to girona around our meal here. And it was most definitely worth making the effort. From start to finish it was nothing short of perfection.

The setting is stunning. Just off a little side street on the outskirts of the city it looks very unpreposessing, but go inside and the magic begins. The kitchen is based in the most beauriful old building which overlooks a court yard, but the restaurant is altogether more modern. The tables are set around the centre piece which is an indoor forest of live trees. Bringing the Roca brother's philosophy of nature and beauty right to your table.

A glass of the Roca brothers' own cava starts the experience. The wine menu is actually so big i would be more appropriately called a library. But it is the most comprehensive and best priced i have ever seen. Anything from 15 euros and up for a bottle. We considered the matching wine flight but in the end we enjoyed the cava so decided to have a bottle. It was 20 euros.

When it comes to the food, all i really need to say is that it is challenging, innovative, delicious perfection. There are two menus - either the Tasting Menu which is around 7 courses or the Feast Menu which is around 15 courses. I say "around" because we chose the Feast Menu but had at least 5 things to eat before we'd even got to the start of the menu.

One thing i would say is that i would advise people not to delve too deeply into every single course on the menu. Part of the joy of the El Celler experience is being surprised. So go with high expectaions and prepare for them to be exceeded in every way and let their food surprise you.

The Tasting Menu is 135 euros and the wine flight is 55. The Feast Menu is 165 euros and the wine flight is 85. Taxes are included but no gratuity is added as standard, this is left to you which makes a nice change from the london restaurants.

The courses come in steady procession and at every stage were well explained by our fantastic waitress. She was very friendly and definitely added to the overall experience. She could obviously see we had a genuine interest in food and when we asked if the Roca Brothers were in the restaurant she said "yes of course". She said that they are all there pretty much every night, which was lovely to see. So often now the chefs lend their name to the experience but not always their physical presence.

We were offered a tour of the kitchen and we obviously jumped at the chance. As we walked in both Joan and Jordi were working together. We were keen not to get in their way, but they couldn't have been any more generous with their time. They invited us in and offered to have a photo with us. Josep also spent a lot of time in the restaurant and when to each table to greet guests.

We were there around 3 hours, maybe more, and it was truly a night to remember. We felt very fortunate to have the opportunity to go, and even more fortunate when the experience turned out to be far in excess of what we could ever have hoped for.

So if you are going, then do so with a serious appetite and prepare to be surprised and amazed by their innovation and skill. A fabulous experience.

My husband and I booked about 6 months in advance for a Tuesday night! It was my 50th and we wanted to celebrate in style. All I can say is, it was amazing. The service, food and wine were all excellent. We had the 15 course with matching wines, each course was explained as was the wine. All I can say is, I'm glad my Mum paid!!!!

We had to book about a year in advance to get a table on a Saturday night at this world famous restaurant. There were a choice of two tasting menus and we opted for the feast which ran to about 15 courses. The restaurant is well known for its wine lists and they arrive in a posh trolley conveying three tomes each inches thick covering red, white and sparkling. Of course there are some ultra expensive wines but many that would look cheap by comparison to similar wines in a UK restaurant or even top end supermarket selection. Having tussled with the books we concluded that there was much to be said for opting to play safe and choose the matching wines option; literally a third of a glass of wine with each course. This threw up some amazing local wines and some sherry like offerings which would not be an obvious pairing with the food but inevitably tasted perfect.
The food experience started with a procession of different appetisers followed by a vegetable broth by which time it was clear that this was just as much about surprises, sensations and theatre than it was about actually getting fed. It would be a shame to spoil the surprises so just be prepared to go with whatever comes and if you love fish and truffles you are in for a particular treat. For anyone hoping to gorge on meat in copious quantities however I would suggest you look elsewhere.
There is a lot of precision cooking to be delivered to the table at just the right time and although the service was outstanding it might also be described as efficiently brisk at times. It is not a venue for a long relaxing romantic dinner more a marathon for those that want to explore some of the extremes of culinary possibilities.

Firstly, Joan, and his 2 brothers Jordi and Josep are masterful from the kick off of entering their exquisite restaurant to the time of departure. The jewels of the Roca Brothers are splendid dining or lunch fare and with 3 Michelin Stars and 2nd place as the world´s best restaurant according to London´s Restaurant Magazine; I am inclined to agree whole heartedly. For us, it was an amazing experience from beginning to end.
